Every know and then I run across a song that I am surprised that I haven't done, this is one of them. Pretty Woman has maybe one of the most iconic riffs in pop and rock music history plus the most famous growl of all time, it is surprisingly hard to roll your rs and riff at the same time! The song features the E chord heavily but you can replace it with the E7, for example the iconic riff is nothing more than an E7 arpeggio with an F# note, or an E9 arpeggio. That is a very cool way to start the song because in the key of A the E is the most tense chord, make it an E7 and it is even more tense, add the 9th and it has a touch of funk to it, what a cool way to start a song! Released in 1964 this song spent 3 weeks at number one on the billboard for Roy, sold 7,000,000 copies and ultimately it was the high point, with respect to numbers, in Roy Orbison's career.

Will Improve

  • E9 Arpeggio
  • Dominant 9 Arpeggio
  • Rolling the R like you do in Spanish
  • Riffing and singing
  • E chord (if you want to)
