Go to Empty Netters page on YouTube. They are straight male hockey podcasters with a very popular YouTube channel. They did hour long reaction/reviews on each episode and actually live streamed the finale. Hudson Williams (Shane Hollander) actually shared them on his Instagram story. The hockey channel What Chaos, also straight men, did it as well. Not the live stream, but the reactions to every episode. In fact I think they actually have the director Jacob Tierney on their show. There are still no out gay hockey stars in the NHL, but hearing these six straight men speaking to their mostly straight male audience about how much they love the show is really a beautiful thing. It shows how privilege could and should be used.

The actors once spoke about the dom/sub relationship between Ilya and Shane. They said something along the lines that it might look like Shane is being forced into a submissive role, he is actually the one seeking the relief of it. He is always maintaining control in his everyday life,' and being dominated by Ilya is the only time he feels he can truly let go. For Ilya, taking the lead isn't about being 'mean' to Shane; it’s about finally having a space where he is the one in charge of the narrative, giving him a sense of stability he lacks elsewhere. The figure skating scene in Russia always bothered me initially, as Ilya seemed unreasonably harsh toward Shane. However, it was pointed out to me that Ilya had explicitly requested space multiple times, saying things like 'not here', 'I'm fine', and 'go sit down', which Shane disregarded. Despite being warned about the dangers in Russia, Shane misread Ilya's need for space as a personal slight against him. The author has since confirmed that Shane is on the autism spectrum, which likely affects his ability to interpret social cues or "read the room".. Given Shane's intense feelings for Ilya and his naivety about the situation in Russia, his actions are understandable.

i truly didnt even put it together that the figure skating scene was actually in russia for the olympics i totally missed that so i think that makes a lot more sense now lol. sometimes i have a hard time picking up stuff. im really enjoying the dynamics between the two because its so fluid. im enjoying watching it grow!!

Lee Lou

You may already know this, but if you don't, the show's ineligible for American awards as it's made in Canada. Honestly though, I think it's not a massive deal, they've won the internet and that's better.. award shows are a bit yesterday.

yeah I feel like people don’t give that enough pause, that Ilya - who can have sex with anyone anytime - patiently waits for Shane while he blows him off for TWO YEARS. And really the whole relationship from the gym, commercial, shower, hotel - it’s all Ilya’s construction from the start.

jo

what is WILDNESS about both of their performances in the vegas scene is this is one of the first things they shot ever. Like how even.

Ashley Phelps

Fun fact in the first lovemaking scene in this episode Hudson didn't use padding they normally use and Connor went so hard it made Hudsons stomach hurt

Ashley Phelps

Just read the interview again, I was wrong it's the Vegas scene but still yeah that happened lmfao

Eva

Can't believe I just found you. Best HR reactions and I ve seen a lot (won't say how many). I love that you get their relationship and dynamic...

hotguyalex

AWWWWW you are so so so sweet. im so glad that you can see my literal like real actual emotions like im figuring this out in real time with you all

Bente-Christin Carstensen

The most emotional part in this episode for me was, that Ilya said: "for you mama" when he won the Cup... and his mum is (as we know) dead. Btw I am so happy that I found you!

Please react to both of their shut up Evan podcasts or even some of their interviews. They’re both so intelligent and so alluring. Like they are so talented and so passionate about actin, film, and the art of it all. I love it. Plus the actors seem to be the exact opposite of their characters which is such a testament to their acting.

hotguyalex

ive watched pretty much every single interview they have done at this point and i wasnt really recording for patreon like that yet buuuuuuut Connor is hosting SNL and i think thats a PERFECT watch. you think ???

Aṣeel

I LOVEEEEE your reaction haha made me laugh it was so genuine and literally all of us ❤️

hotguyalex

awww thank you so much for watching bestie

Kauty Mab

I LOVE your reaction, I was the first one to see it

BCE

I know EXACTLY what you mean when you say you feel like you shouldn’t be watching it. I kept having that reaction too, it feels like you’re intruding sometimes!

hotguyalex

i was like soooo not ready for the intensity then i had to remind myself like that this is being air on like streaming services haha

Desiree M.

It’s ok if you don’t talk sometimes because your face speaks volumes.

jo

when they’re texting at the beginning before the Montreal game, Ilya looks so happy when Shane replies, because Shane has ignored him so many times 😭 than god Ilya persevered

jo

Those particular interviews are both so good. I just pulled up part two of Hudson’s because someone on Reddit was asking about him describing the intimacy garments - but the thing where Evan plays the recording of an actor he admires, the whole thing is so endearing.

jo

yeah that makes sense because that’s the roughest/ hardest one and one of the first ones they shot. Poor Hudson learning the hard way 🤢

jo

Yeah, as an autistic person, I totally get that Shane can’t help that he doesn’t get it - however - on the steps at his apartment before Sochi he told Ilya he understood that they wouldn’t see each other in Sochi, and Ilya confirmed. So that’s a boundary. Shane was struggling that Ilya wasn’t replying to his text, so as soon as he sees him he goes up to him and engages - crossing a boundary. Just like he could see Ilya up there, everyone can see them talking, which is so dangerous for Ilya (not to mention it was public knowledge that these spaces were bugged in Sochi). Considering how belligerent it might feel to Ilya that Shane is ignoring his requests to stop talking to him (like 3 times) that really could have gone a lot worse. I don’t really understand how ppl see the life he’s dealing with in Russia that episode and not understand his behavior.

hotguyalex

i didnt realize how much shane was pushing away at the start but unsure, not until i read the books!!

Mara

Omg i love your reactions, especially to the sex scenes 🤣 i read the books beforehand and was still so gaged bei the tv show. I think it will forever be one of my favourite shows of all time. Hudson, Connor and the whole cast are just incredible. Love from Austria ❤️

james

I love how you immediately clocked how the forehead kiss immediately had Ilya running scared. The moment it felt more intimate than just hot sex he was "I should go!"

hotguyalex

its because im a pisces sister, idk how i can see it but i can!!

Marisa Jo Miller-McDowell

I’m confused why fuck that guy? He was being cool and supportive and helping Shane understand something he didn’t understand.. I know you’re so far past watching this and I’m so far behind commenting, but I am confused.

Lauren

The amount of people who don’t know that you can’t be gay in Russia astounds me. The amount of people who don’t pick up that Vaughn literally said it was bad to be gay and out in Russia astounds me more. Shane should not have approached him in Russia. 😭
