Hello lovelies,
After lots of rest and watching plenty of TV, I'm starting to feel much better after being so ill for the past two weeks!
Here is part two of my series on how to draw pretty flowers - this one is based on tulips and lavender (I always found lavender so tricky to draw!)🌷🪻✨
If you missed the first part with flower styles 1 and 2 you can find it here!
How To Draw Flower Style 3 - Open Tulip
1. Start by drawing a tall semi-circle shape, sort of like a goblet, as a guide for the shape of our flower.
2. Then we can draw the first petal, starting right at the bottom of the guide shape and following it around to the top left point, and then cutting across through the middle back to where we started.
3. Repeat the same thing on the other side but allow the petals to overlap just a little bit where they meet in the middle.
4. Now draw a big curve bridging that middle gap as a third petal, using the top of the guide shape as a reference for the top point. In the two gaps that you now have in between the three petals, draw another small curve in each to look like background petals.
5. Let’s draw a stem! From the bottom of the flower, draw two parallel lines straight down (I like to add a bit of a curve to mine to make it more organic). Then you can add a tall leaf on either side.
6. Lastly I like to add a few simple line details on the petals, and then it’s all done!
How To Draw Flower Style 4 - Closed Tulip
1. This time we’ll start with a pointy egg shape as the guide shape for our flower.
2. Similar to last time, draw the first petal by starting in the bottom middle and tracing around the guide shape to the top left, this time stopping a little bit before the top, and then cutting across through the middle back to the bottom.
3. Repeat the same thing on the other side, allowing the two petals to overlap.
4. Bridge the gap between the two petals with a curve, making sure to leave a bit of room at the top so that it doesn’t line up with the guide shape. I also like to add a few line details on the petals!
5. Draw the stem like we did with the last flower, with two lines starting at the base of the petals and going down from there.
6. Lastly, add a tall leaf on either side of the stem, and it’s finished!
I like to colour my tulips in pinks, oranges and yellows, but really tulips come in all sorts of fun colours and patterns so you could definitely get creative!
How To Draw Flower Style 5 - Lavender
1. To draw lavender, start with a tall teardrop shape to act as our flower shape guide.
2. At the base of the teardrop shape, draw a small tall oval shape as our first ‘petal’, then draw one more on either side, roughly using the teardrop shape as a guide.
3. In the two gaps between the first three petals, draw two more petals, again using the teardrop shape from step 1 as a guide.
4. For the next row we’ll draw three petals again, letting them spill over the edges of the teardrop guide a little bit.
5. For the fourth row we’ll draw two more petals.
6. Continue layering up the petals, with three on one row and then two on the next and repeating that until you get to the top. It doesn’t have to be perfect, I just like to use that pattern as a guide.
7. Then we can draw a tall, skinny stem coming out of the bottom of the flower.
8. And lastly, draw two small thin leaves on either side of the stem, and it’s finished!
Lavender is typically purple with a green stem, so that’s how I usually colour them, but you can play around with what type of purple you like to use for your style and palette.
I hope you enjoyed drawing these with me! 💖🌷🪻
