Mimi's Newsletter - I Illustrated A Picture Book! (Patreon)

Hello my lovely flowers!

WELL it's been quite a week for me as I finally got to reveal the cover for the picture book I've illustrated this year. I've had to keep the details quiet for a few months but now I can officially share that I've illustrated a book with HarperCollins Australia and it'll be released March 2022! 

I received an email from HarperCollins in May this year almost exactly a year after I started posting regularly on Instagram and they said they had been following me on Instagram and had been waiting for a book to come along that fit my style and wanted to know if I'd be illustrating a book for them. Obviously I didn't believe it for about a week because I was convinced it was too good to be true but after speaking to them on the phone and signing a contract I accepted that they might actually be wanting me to illustrate for them!

The process was really great and I had a lot more creative freedom that I thought I would, they gave me the text and then gave me full freedom to sketch out the pages however I liked. I did sketches of every page and gave it to them for feedback, they made some small suggestions that I changed, and then I had another month or so to do the final illustrations of all of the pages. It's a 24 page book plus the patterns for the inside and the cover as well so it was lootts of drawing!

So all of the illustrations for the book are finished now and it's been sent to be printed, I can't wait to see it in real life! It's released mid March in Australia, I'm not yet sure if there'll be any international release.

Also I'm visiting my family up in Queensland this week and it's really nice to reconnect with everyone and visit friends. I get to see my favourite doggies and gosh it's so hot up here compared to Tasmania! It's been a really lovely break so far and I have a few more days before we get back to work properly.
