Today I drew the character that you helped me choose in last week's poll and so I created a girl with galaxy hair! I'm going to post it to Instagram in a few hours and wanted to show you a little breakdown of the process.

I gave her long wavy hair so I could really make it a feature and would have lots of space to add galaxy-ness to it, which I did with layering in blues and purples with a sort of cloudy brush and then adding splatters and stars.

The process went a little something like this:

I drew a really simple sketch, making sure my composition would show off the hair

I turned my sketch down to 20% opacity on multiply blend mode so I could use it as a reference

On new layers below the sketch I blocked in the basic colours for each section

Then I added lots of layers of colour to the hair, and added shading to the body

Next I drew in details like stars in the hair and stripes for the shirt

Finally I decided I wanted a gradient in the background rather than straight blue so I faded the blue into a pink

And that's how I drew her!

I like the way she turned out, I think adding a colour gradient to the background will be something I try again in my next drawings.

I love your colors choice. And yes for the gradient background. I love them. They add a great touch.
