Recent Sketches & Ideas Process (Patreon)

Hello my beautiful flowers!

I've been getting back into sketching in my sketchbook this week and have been using it to just have a bit of fun but also to spark ideas for digital illustrations.

I'm trying to make sure that I don't put pressure on myself to make my sketchbook drawings 'pretty' or finished (which is sooo easy to want to do) because if I added that pressure then I know I wouldn't end up drawing nearly as much!I'm leaving my sketchbook and pencils in an easy place where I see them all the time, right on my desk next to my laptop, so that it's super easy to just spend 5-15 minutes sketching something and doesn't feel like something I have to schedule in to remember to do.

So here are some of the sketches I've done this week, sometimes I just drew some really simple shapes that I'm familiar with just to loosen up a bit, and sometimes I wrote down some random prompt words to inspire some ideas.

On Tuesday I drew some thumbnails for composition ideas and quite liked the cat on the girl's head so I combined it with a recent idea that one of you had to draw a girl with a fox (thank you, KittyCraftBox!) and so I illustrated that on Tuesday.

When I'm looking for ideas for something to sketch I often just come up with some words (usually a character and an accessory or two) and use those as prompts. If you find yourself getting stuck for things to draw, try writing down some characters and accessories and see if you can make something from them, or you can do the exact same thing with my prompt list that I made last year (I'll attach it below in case you don't already have it). Just pick out some words you like the sound of and try and make a character or scene with them.

I actually really like this wizard duck I sketched out today at lunchtime so I think I'll draw them soon (maybe this afternoon...) and then tomorrow I'm going to draw the animal cafe that you all voted for me to draw this week.

Do you guys ever draw in a sketchbook or do you just draw digitally?❤
