Mimi's Illustration Club August - Third Activity! (Patreon)
Content
Hello my lovelies!
It's time for activity number 3 for this month's Illustration Club and this activity is all about creating a final illustration!
The prompt for this month as you know is 'in the garden' which is right up my alley and I had a really nice time doing the sketches and final illustration for this prompt 🥰🌷🌿
So far in the club this month we’ve filled a sketchbook page with ideas relating to the prompt, then we explored some composition sketches from those ideas, and now we can take one of those composition ideas and create a final illustration from it.
If you skipped the first activities and came straight to drawing a final illustration that's totally fine!
You can use any medium you like to create your final illustration! The aim of this activity (and the whole club) is to just explore the creative process and enjoy practising our art skills together, so if you can achieve those two things then whatever you create is a success!
So I’ll show you what I created for this activity based on a sketch from activity 2!
This is my final illustration for 'in the garden' and I decided to go with the greenhouse scene because I wanted to draw something with a little bit of depth and lots of little details.
So here's a quick breakdown of my illustration process from sketch through to finished digital illustration, plus the basic palette I used that you're welcome to use for your own illustrations as well! As always I'll be sharing a video of my illustration process with Beautiful Bluebells next week 🥰
So my process for this drawing went a little something like this:
First I drew a digital sketch based on the pencil sketch that I had drawn in activity 2
Then I made that sketch layer about 20% opacity and set it to 'multiply' blend mode so that it would always be darker than any layers below it
On new layers below and using my sketch layer as a reference, I started colouring in each section of my illustration. I like to use lots of layers, so most of the different coloured elements get their own layer
Then I added lots of little details like cute flowers and the bumblebees
Once everything had a basic colour, I started adding lots of layers of shading and texture to pretty much everything (this took quite a while but makes a big difference!)
After adding any finishing touches like highlights it was all finished!
It was quite relaxing to draw this little garden scene, I think I'll make it next month's wallpapers because that was suggested when I drew the composition 😊
Now it's your turn (yay!) - take one of the composition sketches that you drew in activity 2 and create a final illustration from it (if you haven't already). Or if you feel like it you can do a completely new idea!
These activities pretty much replicate my normal art process when I'm faced with a new prompt - I brainstorm ideas, doodle down a few sketches to explore some compositions, and then illustrate my final piece.
If you do draw a final illustration with the prompt this month then feel free to share it with us over on Discord in the #final-illustrations channel. Everyone is welcome, and you can share what you've created for any of the activities at any time!
I'm really looking forward to seeing how your illustrations turn out ❤
