Drawing Snapshot (featuring pretty moth!) (Patreon)

Hello my beautiful flowers!
I hope you're having a wonderful weekend 🌷✨
I've just illustrated the moth that you voted for me to draw in the latest drawing poll, and now I really want to do a series of moths with pretty wings. I could do one that's more celestial themed and one that's a bit more nature themed - they're so simple but really fun to add patterns to!
I drew a moth back in 2020 that I sort of modelled this one off because I thought the original was pretty cute. It's also always fun to see how much my style has changed over the years!
This is the moth from 2020:
And this is the one I drew today:
I think they're both cute though!
So I wanted to do a quick breakdown of this illustration to show you the basic process. I've also attached below the colour palette I used and you're welcome to use it for your own illustrations 🥰
So my process went a little something like this:
First I drew a simple sketch of my moth and the pattern I wanted to draw on them
Then I made that layer about 20% opacity and 'multiply' blend mode so that I would be able to see through it and could use it as a reference
On new layers below I coloured in all of the main shapes of my illustration, using the sketch as a reference. I drew the body on one layer, the top two wings on another layer, and the bottom two wings on their own layer as well
Then I started adding the coloured patterns. It was fun to just make it up as I went along because I didn't really have a plan for the colours!
Then I added lots of shading and texture and a rainbow in the background
I also added a texture overlay, which is just an image of a texture that I 'overlay' onto the whole illustration to give it all an extra texture finish
And that's it!
I really like how they turned out, moths are so underrated!
❤️✨
