Hello my creative friends!
It's a new year and this week I sat down to figure out some of my art/business goals for this year.
In previous years there's been much more focus on improving my art skills or what areas of drawing I specifically wanted to improve on, but this year the focus is a bit more about my art business and the things that I want to create.
I tend to have lots of things that I want to do so I roughly group them in order of priority:
Goals that would be amazing to achieve this year. These are things that are really high priority and that I'll be spending most of my time and energy on.
Goals that would be great to achieve this year. These are things that I'll be putting some time and energy into but only after making progress with my highest priority goals.
Goals that would be nice to achieve this year. These are random little projects or just fun extras that I'll do if I have time, but if not then no big deal - they can roll over to the next year.
My goals for 2023
Goals it would be amazing to achieve this year:
Finish my digital art course. I started writing my digital art course for beginners late last year and I'd really love to keep working on that and get it finished. It's a big project so it'll take a few months but I think I'm about 30% of the way through it and I'm really excited to create it and share it with the world!
Post a YouTube video every fortnight. I love sharing videos on YouTube and definitely want to keep creating them this year but they do take quite a bit of work so I think one per fortnight is a really achievable amount to maintain.
Have more work/life balance. I worked probably a bit too much last year in an attempt to get my art income to a comfortable and sustainable place. Now I feel like I'm there I want to do some traveling this year and although I still want to grow my business and enjoy sharing my art, I also want to be able to enjoy exploring some new places.
Goals it would be great to achieve this year:
Illustrate something just for fun once a week. Since I've been getting more professional illustrating opportunities I've not had as much time to draw just for fun, so that's something I really want to bring back this year!
Create a short class for Skillshare. Once I've created my big digital art course, it would also be great to make a short class for Skillshare on another topic like building an art business or maybe growing on social media. Just something quite manageable and specific that doesn't take too long to create.
Create two workbooks or pdf guides. For a while now I've been wanting to make some little downloadable workbooks or guides on helpful topics that people can do at their own pace, things like being consistent with your art or growing an art business, but I've never quite gotten around to it!
Goals it would be nice to achieve this year:
Create an advent calendar card. This is a bit random but last year I really wanted to make a Christmas greeting card that doubled as an advent calendar but I just didn't have time to make it, so I've put it on my list for this year but it's a low priority.
Meet artist friends in real life. Last year I had the pleasure of meeting two of my online art friends in real life and it was so lovely to be able to connect, so this year I'd love to meet some more art friends and I'll be in Europe so hopefully that makes things a bit easier!
So those are my goals for 2023, have you planned any goals for this year or are you going to take it easy and go with the flow?🥰
