I had the best time on Friday drawing this little pumpkin home and now I'm obsessed with the idea of drawing tiny homes in all sorts of things 😄

I usually draw quite simple illustrations that take maybe an hour or two to draw, but it was really nice to spend most of the afternoon on this one and really take my time with it.

I've broken down the illustration process into its most basic steps, and included the colour palette (which I've also attached below) that you're very welcome to use in your own illustrations!

So my drawing process went a little something like this:

First I drew a sketch of my composition with most of the details included.

Then I made that sketch about 30% opacity and 'multiply' blend mode so that I would be able to easily see through it onto layers below.

Using my sketch as a reference, I colour in all of the elements, mostly drawing each element on its own layer.

Then I draw allll of the little details like the photo frames, handles for the cupboards, and details on the chair.

I like to add lots of texture so I go through each element and add a layer or two of texture in a slightly darker colour so that it doubles up as shading. This takes a while on an illustration like this!

Once it's nearly finished I look at the illustration as a whole and make sure I'm happy with the contrast, which means darkening shadows where they should be darkest and brightening highlights where they should be brightest.

Finally, I add some cute details to the leaves and write my signature somewhere a little bit out of the way.

And that's it!

I really enjoyed this illustration process - what tiny home should I draw next?
