Hello everyone!

Flowers are something that I draw in nearly all of my illustrations so I wanted to make some how-to-draw guides for different types of flowers!

This will be the first part, and I’ll make some more throughout the year so that you can create a variety of flowers for your illustrations.

How To Draw Flower Style 1

Start by drawing a guide in the shape of half an oval, sort of like the top part of a wine glass.

Starting at the bottom of that guide shape, trace around the side of it until you reach almost the top, and then curve your line inwards.

From there, draw a second big curve toward the middle of the guide shape.

Draw another one of those until you’re about ¾ of the way across.

From there you can draw a final curve and then follow the guide shape back down to the bottom.

To give some depth to the flower, draw three curved lumps joined together through the middle, just below the top of the shape.

Next, draw 5 vertical lines coming from the centre of the flower and sticking out at the top.

Add a circle on top of each of those lines.

Now you can remove the guidelines we drew in step 1 and admire your flower!

To give it a stem, draw two lines with a slight curve coming from the bottom of the flower.

Add a leaf on either side, and it’s all finished!

This flower is quite generic and not really an exact representation of any flower in particular (I suppose it's closest to a tulip if anything) so you can experiment with different colours. I quite like to draw them in pinks and oranges personally, but I'm sure it would suit all sorts of colours.

How To Draw Flower Style 2

For this flower, draw a guideline in the shape of a wonky circle (it’s nice to have it wonky so that the flower isn’t perfectly shaped). Draw a small circle in the middle, and the first petal just a small distance from the middle and going up to the edge of the guideline.

From the end of the first petal, draw a second petal roughly going to the edge of the guideline again.

Repeat this three more times, roughly using the guideline (but you don’t have to match it perfectly) until you have 5 petals.

Alongside the first flower, draw three more wonky circle guidelines to make a small cluster.

Draw another flower in one of the new guidelines using the same method as we did in steps 1-3.

Repeat that process two more times until you have 4 little flowers, all of slightly different shapes.

To add a stem, draw two lines close together down from the top flower. You might need to erase parts of the line if it goes behind any of the flowers. Then you add another, smaller stem from another flower down to the main stem.

Add the two smallest stems from the remaining flowers, and a leaf either side of the stem at the bottom.

This flower is based on forget-me-nots so I like to colour the flowers in a purple or blue with yellow centres, but again, you could try lots of different colours (there are no rules, really).

I hope you enjoy drawing these flowers as much as I did, leave a comment below if there's a particular type of flower you'd like to see next! 💖

I like how simple this is... I hate how my hands won't do what I tell them to do lol
