Finals are over. Y'all have my full attention once again. Or at least most of it, as I'm taking a reporting internship with Shades of Long Island, a local outlet that covers minorities and young people in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. But I can finally get back to blogging everyday, including my five-part Mirkwood series. Have fun with that.
As usual, here are the headlines:
Rachel Cohen at Vox covers housing protections for queer people.
This week, the IDF murdered Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh. Afterwards, Israeli forces attacked mourners at Abu Akleh's funeral. Don't forget the apartheid.
The U.S. Interior Department is investigating abuse of Native children.
A furry organizes Starbucks workers.
Fashy Brazilian judge Sergio Moro is rapidly losing power. Sic temper nazis.
Texas has resumed its investigation of trans children's families.
Actress Adèle Haenel speaks out on the film industry's reactionism.
I've been on a low-brow crime fiction kick lately. That genre was a big part of my upbringing and I remain quite fond of it. Sometimes a gal needs to wind down by watching Murder She Wrote or Columbo. Or by re-reading Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, which I just did. It holds up.
Seems like I've generally been reconnecting with my past because I've also been listening to a lot of country music. I grew up in the same county as Emmylou Harris and generally consider myself a child of the Shenandoah Valley. A gal needs her past.
Mostly country music by gals has kept me in the loop. Margo Price is a favorite. I've started listening to Brandi Carlile and Brooklyn artist Annie Keating, because you need dyke-y country in your life. And speaking of Emmylou Harris, her Wrecking Ball album goes hard.
Bit of a ramble, this one. But I'm excited to resume daily writing. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm sitting in an air conditioning-less dorm where two fans and an open window can't save me from being slow-roasted. I've also written this post while topless, so I need to throw on a shirt and head downstairs to a water fountain.
