[Work in Progress] Medieval City: Living Map Pack (Patreon)
Content
Well, it happened again.
And of course, I didn't see it coming. Although, honestly, at this point, I really should have.
What was originally supposed to be just a single city battlemap has started growing into something much, much bigger. And looking at what I've already built and what I'm planning next, I have a feeling this Medieval City might turn into one of my largest locations yet.
Because we're no longer talking about just a town square.
I'm thinking about streets, a castle, a noble district, city gates, defensive walls, and probably a whole bunch of other places I'll come up with along the way.
And the best part? These are all locations you could use in so many different ways. Take the city walls, for example. They could be the setting for a massive siege, a desperate defense, a stealthy infiltration, or just part of a city your players happen to be exploring.
So, here's an idea I've been playing with.
What if I turned this into a sort of "Living Map Pack"?
Instead of spending weeks building everything and then dropping one massive release, I'd release the pack gradually, adding new maps and expanding the location through regular updates.
We could start with the main town square, in day and night variants. Then come the streets, perhaps the castle next, the noble district, city walls, and so on.
The whole pack would simply keep growing over the following days and weeks. And I think this could actually work out really well for everyone.
For you, it means getting access to new maps much earlier, without having to wait for me to finish an entire massive location.
For me, it means a more frequent release cycle (hopefully!) and, perhaps even more importantly, the freedom to build something bigger without constantly looking at the calendar and thinking, "Oh crap, the month's almost over and I haven't released anything yet!"
I think removing that pressure could actually help me make this Medieval City a much larger and more complete location than I originally planned.
And there's one more thing. I still have another map pack in mind that I'd really like to release in November, so I'm hoping this approach will also give me enough room to work on both.
Anyway, that's the plan! We'll see how it goes.
Fingers crossed I can pull this off!
