The Joaquin Phoenix Joker movie was heavily inspired by this movie. Liza Minelli was 1 of the cutouts he was sitting next to in his basement doing the fantasy interview. She was on the left and the Jerry cutout was on the right.

I want to say something about my thoughts on the ending but don’t want to post any spoilers. But my take on it agrees with BJ’s first comments about it. I think the Liza Minnelli credit at the end was just because she (or a dummy of her) was there as a fake guest in that early talk-show fantasy sequence Rupert was having.

When I was about five years old, back in 1993 or so, I watched an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie. I think it was "Commando". Despite being edited for TV, I started kicking and acting out action movie scenes. My dad decided to record three Jerry Lewis movies off of AMC (in the days when AMC only showed older movies and no commercials). He showed them to me and I became a huge fan of Jerry Lewis. For about four years, from Kindergarten through Second Grade, I constantly watched Jerry Lewis movies. This gave me a knowledge and a love for much older pop culture. In January 1997, my parents took me to see Jerry Lewis on Broadway in the play "Damn Yankees". I remember going to the theater in downtown Cleveland in a snowstorm. My father ordered a gin martini and gave me the soaked olive. I got a Shirley Temple in a martini glass with cherries. My mom and dad said when I saw Jerry Lewis on stage in person it was "as if I saw God". LOL One of my best childhood memories. For a guy born in the 1980s, I like the fact that I was exposed to pop culture from not just the 1990s when I was a kid, but back to the golden and silver age of Hollywood, as well. I hope you guys watch more Jerry Lewis films. I recommend "Boeing Boeing" from 1965 with Jerry and Tony Curtis.

As funny as this can be sometimes, I’ve known people like Rupert, they say they’ve been everywhere, they’ve really been nowhere, they say they’ve done everything, they’ve really done nothing. I treat them with kindness though….not TOO kind though.

FUN FACT: The beautiful black woman was Robert Deniro's actual wife. (Diahnne Abbott). They had been married for 7 years while filming this film and remained married for another 5 years after.

Dan Gershgol

This movie was a lot of fun.

Oh okay. I didn't realise Asia was actually insane. Beautiful yes, but batshit goofy.
