Not gonna lie, the first time I saw this episode (11), I thought Deb poisoned herself on purpose with her own medication, so Dexter would think it was Hannah, and be forced to break up with her. Even going into episode 12, I still thought Deb did it to herself. She’s been acting like a psycho jealous ex-gf! 🥸

Great reaction to the finale! That last scene was tough! I feel so bad for Deb, her reacting to what she did is so heartbreaking! I did not want that for Maria.. or Deb!! 😭 I can't believe we are on the last season already! It's been so much trauma.. I mean fun re-watching this! 😂 Can't wait for the next season! 🤗🙏✌️

Doakes also said “Surprise MF” to Dexter in season 1 when he caught Dexter at the shipping yard during the search for Deb. Doakes did tell Maria in their last conversation that no matter what people say about him it isn’t true. If you notice to that throughout this series it starts about Dexters past and how important it is to him. Later about season 3-4 Dexter focuses on the present, trying to be a good man to Rita and the kids (some learned through Arthur) and trying to have friends like his thing with Miguel. He fell back into the past after Rita but Lumen helped him look forward and since season 6 He is looking to the Future. Maria played him by using his past because she correctly believed it would be important to him. But what happened happened cause Deb loves Dex right? Can’t wait to see what you guys think about season 8.🙌🙌🙌🙌.

That episode…I had the same reaction as Asia 😧 lol. I felt so bad for all of them but Deb the most. She had to choose. If she shot Dexter she would kill her brother and then Maria would have arrested her for helping with Travis’s murder. It was a lose lose situation for her. And impossible choice. She should have just stayed at the party! Dang Deb !

Do you think the writers intended for the audience to consider that possibility? Deb’s facial expressions when discussing it with Dexter really made her reactions seem suspicious.

Definitely also considered that this was the case. And now with hindsight and everything that followed, it would also make more narrative sense to do it like that. It would have been a more gradual slip into the darkside for Deb. Also lol to the person who mentions that it would have been ooc for Deb to do that... as opposed to killing an innocent woman who happened to also be her colleague, to protect Dexter. Why is that more into character than trying to frame a person that is a known killer, again also to protect her brother from that person?

It would have made more narrative sense for season 8 as well. I liked season 8, but i always found it kinda silly how Deb, could see past the fact that Hannah tried to kill her. Whereas if they had Deb doing it herself to try and frame Hannah, the drama would be better. It would show us a gradual slide of Deb to the darkside, before she kills Laguerta, it would bring tension to both Dexter's relationship with Hannah and his sister, and it would be far easier for the audience to accept what happens in season 8, than what actually happened.
