Groundhog’s Day isn’t just a one town celebration. It’s a fun, silly holiday in the U.S. Also loved that Hannah kept calling the groundhog a beaver 😂❤️

Ya know Ash i let it slide that you hated ep 3 of the last of us so much, but hearing you like guns n roses better than ac/dc and maybe even metallica....i'm bummed that we are mortal enemies now.

I think fans online crunched some numbers and figured out that he repeated the same day for 33 years and some change, but i've also seen the director say something like 11 years I can't remember, either way it was over a decade.

I would recommend Caddy Shack if you haven't seen it yet. One of the funniest movies out there and Bill Murray is great in it.

Great movie and fun reaction. And don’t worry…you’re supposed to get emotional over the old man, lol 😉😌. Also, if you didn’t already know, Buster (the older guy who co-hosts the Groundhog celebration and who Phil saves from choking on the steak) is played by Bill Murray’s older brother Brian Doyle-Murray. They appear in a lot of movies together, like Caddy Shack and he also cameos as Bill’s character’s Dad in Scrooged, just to name a few 😁.

Donald has excellent taste. This is also my favorite movie, and I'm so happy you two watched it. It's a movie about life, and humanity, and finding peace. It's a beautiful film. Ash caught the change; on his last date with Rita, when it begins to snow, that's the signal that Phil's purgatory has been broken. And it snows right after he says the line, "No matter what happens tomorrow, or for the rest of my life, I'm happy now. Because I love you." That was the lesson. Phil had to find genuine happiness in his heart in the moment. It's hilarious that Ash started the movie hating the town, hating the people, hating the festival, and like Phil softened up to it all by the end. Now that's SYMBOLISMS! I agree with both of you that the film benefits from not having an explicit celestial figure, like the movie Bruce Almighty (2003). And it's interesting that you two were guessing which character might be that God-like or genie figure, such as the bartender or the old man. That's because the point of the old man subplot is to teach Phil that he's not actually a God like he had theorized to Rita. A God would have the power to change the world around him, bend it to his will. While Phil's actions have repercussions (until the next morning), his powers are still temporal. He wants to save the old man, but can't. Nothing he does, no choice he makes, will make that old man live a moment longer. Realizing that humbles Phil. Side note, I love how the film conceives of God's omnipotent knowledge. "Maybe the real God uses tricks. Maybe he's not omnipotent, he's just been around so long he knows everything." Such a smart line. The film does an excellent job setting up all its background characters, from the people in the diner to that little boy Phil saves from falling out of the tree; earlier, when Phil brought the old man to the hospital, you can see that boy injured in the background. There's a lot of little things like that you catch on rewatches. My favorite joke is probably the lamest in the movie lol. It's when the piano teacher compliments Phil's ability and asks whether it's really his first lesson. "Yes, but my father was a piano mover, so..." Priceless. Director Harold Ramis cameos as the neurologist who tells Phil his brain scans are normal. Ramis and Bill Murray actually had a really difficult time working together on this film, and their on-set disagreements permanently ruined their friendship. It's very unfortunate because they were such a good combination. As another commenter points out, there's been a lot of theorizing on how long Phil was stuck in purgatory. Harold Ramis originally conceived it as 10 years. When you analyze the skills Phil learns--throwing cards, piano, ice sculpting--and how long it takes to master them, it looks like he relived the same day for at least thirty years. Others think it's even longer, and he actually lived like this for 10,000 years because Buddhists believe that's how long it takes to acheive enlightenment. Final note. This movie holds special nostalgia for me because my hometown is Altoona, Pennsylvania which is mentioned in the film multiple times. And even though filming was done in central Illinois, it still perfectly captures everything about my childhood in central Pennsylvania. The homes, the buildings, the people and the way they look and dress and speak, it's all completely accurate. It's almost like a personal time capsule. Again, thank you for reacting to this gem of a movie and appreciating its message of kindness, happiness, and love for life.

One of those perfect films. There is nothing wrong with it. Now that you’ve seen this masterpiece, you gotta watch “Edge of Tomorrow”. “Happy Death Day” is also another great film worth checking out.

Ash, please watch Scent of a Woman, if you haven't already! It's a great 90s movie! You'll love it!
