12th Time's A Charm | Sacred Symbols, Episode 328

The long-awaited remake of Silent Hill 2 has finally arrived on PlayStation 5, and it's a hit. Players around the world are loving it, providing audiences with the very first acclaimed title from Polish studio Bloober Team. Indeed, many (including some on this show) questioned whether these guys were even up to the task, and reasonably so: Bloober's average Metacritic score across 11 previous PlayStation releases is a 65. But it's here, it's great, and we're excited to talk about it, along with other horror-themed fare in the form of Until Dawn Remake, too. Other news this week includes rumblings of a potential Concord F2P comeback, Ubisoft possibly being taken private, SEGA's surprise announcement of Alien: Isolation 2, the delisting of LittleBigPlanet 3 from the PSN, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Are scalpers merely serving a necessary purpose on the free market? Should everyone cut Assassin's Creed: Shadows a little bit of slack? Has Atlus overcome Square Enix as the industry's most prolific JRPG publisher? Will the New York Jets ever stop ruining Colin's life? Follow the hosts! Live shows are a special treat for the fans, the energy is so different. Nice to see you boys get out of your parent's basements once in a while...

Tampas a rad town. Hope everyone got through it alright down there. The rain is what really fucked us here in Asheville. Wind and falling trees were def a concern but I think the rain and flooding is what killed so many people.

Don't let em give you a hard time Colin. I do the exact same thing when I pop a trophy out of habit

I love Ryan Hall he was very helpful during a really bad storm in spring.

I hate to come off as disagreeable or hostile with Colin too often I adore him, but at 2:43:54 I'd just ask for clarification on what exactly makes it virtue signaling? I'm open minded on the topic but from what I can tell the issue is simply a African Japanese man being the protagonist correct? The problem with all of this hyper critical questioning of the validity of using Yasuke as a character is that he is ironically more historically authentic than any AC protagonist ever. In the literal sense that he was actually a real human being in history that actually existed in Japan. He also was eventually culturally Japanese and spoke Japanese... so he is more Japanese than any of the westerners up in arms about his inclusion in a culturally Japanese game. Ezio never existed, and nobody called it virtue signaling when they used an ethnic Italian instead of an ethnic Ottoman in a game set in the Ottoman empire. And if this is about representation then there is a list of over a dozen games set in this era alone of Japan with Male Samurai protagonists, yet not a single game with a male Ottoman protagonist, where was the outcry then for authentic representation in AC Revalations? Liking Ezio shouldn't change peoples apparent stance that games using non ethnically local protagonists are virtue signaling. Was using the "Englishman" as the protagonist in Shogun virtue signaling too or is it fine if they are white? Peace and love either way 🤙🏼.

On my 3rd playthrough of Silent Hill 2 Remake and it's phenomenal. One of the best looking and sounding games on PS5 especially on quality mode. The 3d audio is incredible

I had heard of the controversies of both David Cage and Randy Pitchford, after already playing games they were involved in. It never influenced my purchasing decisions… However, saying that, I do find Randy Pitchford to be an ‘uncomfortable’ individual. Why I don’t feel the same way about David Cage, I cannot explain (need more time to analyze). Guessing, I think Pitchford is an awkward person on a regular basis (look at response to film, magic tricks, interaction with Kevin Hart, etc.). He bothers me on a visual level. David Cage has his own controversy, but I am far less familiar with it (articles on him seemed far more opinion piece with anonymous accounts VS. Pitchford’s far more facts and dates style reporting).

Chris, You mentioned having issues with only 7/8 of the player card changes being tracked for the trophy on Dragon Ball Sparking Zero. It might be bugged, but you may have also made the same mistake I did. On the "change your player card" screen, it only shows 7 options on the menu, but if you click on "Edit Title" (the 2nd from the top option in the menu), it shows a list of all the icons, but you can press R1 or L1 to toggle over to changing the text instead, and that may fix the issue for you. Hopefully that helps and the trophy isn't bugged for you.

Colin saying the write in about the time played on PSN was boring stuff understandably (that was me lol), but I just found it interesting that time played on the PS5 dashboard seems to be double your actual time - which is still visible, but it's on the games list on your profile instead. Idk if it affects everyone, but based on what Chris said about his in-game SH2 file being around 10hrs and his PS5 time saying 20, seems he's affected by it too. Just a weird bug, and surprised it's still ongoing and not seen any reporting on it. Then yeah some other things were like how going to your PS5 dashboard mid-game pauses the timer, and how I can see my time played for Ghost of Tsushima on PS4 only when comparing to other players, yet looking at my own profile shows a different number - which is what I played recently. Just some weird quirks I thought might be interesting for anyone looking to keep their time played accurate when not actively playing, and that yeah, one tracker is now doubling your actual time.

The only PSN free to play game I could see a Colin playing would be Warframe tbh

Kevin Cooper

I'm seeing this, as well. I recently got the Vampire Survivors platinum, and there's no way it took the 50 Hours it shows on my PS5 dashboard.

JoshM

Yeah, it's weird - does the number show halved on your profile's games list, or at least a fair amount less than what's on your dashboard?
