Welcome back red, blue and purple people, to another episode of Constellation. This week on LSM's conversational podcast, we're getting a little bit political. Now that the 2024 presidential election is behind us and the results are in, Colin, Jaffe and Dagan discuss the outcome, the winners and losers and what it all might mean as the world hurtles into 2025. Is the gang feeling optimistic, cynical, hopeful, bitter, angry or worried in the face of these imminent changes? Regardless of your political stripe we hope you enjoy the conversation, and thanks so much as always for tuning in!

Look Up 2:27 of Delusions of Grandeur - Glazed Donut Zero (Official Video)

No one is entirely immune to propaganda. Not even the smartest people you know. You can take that from whichever side you want, but I think you can tell when someone has sealed themselves in an echo chamber and they haven’t sought out refutations of their preferred “news” sources.

Mike Maurice

I’m stopping at 1:45 to start the video, love you Jaffe lol.

Dennis

The belief that Trump was good for the economy is so weird. He inherited an economy that had been growing for 8 years straight under Obama. Plus a yearly declining unemployment rate. And to be fair he did not stagger this growth. But he did blow up the deficit, which is weird if the economy was doing so great. But hardly any policy he enacted effected the economy in a positive way. Then covid happened. And I would not blame any large economic changes on Trump that happened during this time. But that also means that I would not credit him for the cheap gasoline during this time. Only the large excess deaths I would hold him at least partially responsible for. But somehow Biden gets blamed for all the Covid fallout. While the increase in inflation, gasoline and grocery prices happened in almost every country. And even though he got inflation under control faster than any other first world country, he still gets all the blame. The economic reality today is due to the covid fallout, corporate opportunism, Trumps stimulus AND yeah also Biden's stimulus. That is why it is so short sighted to think Trump would be better on the economy. And the ironic part is. The next four years trump will take credit for Biden's ''Infrastructure Bill'' and ''the science and chips act''. Two things that will be good for the economy in the long term.

Wanted to watch this if literally anyone but jaffee was on it.. 🤢🤢

WhatDarrenPlays

I feel like Jaffee made some great nuanced points and Colin just retorted with “because its nonsense and we all know it is” on a variety of issues. I’m definitely leaning on Colin’s side, but I feel like when actually challenged his explanations don’t hold up very well. Sometimes anyways.

Tom Cullen

This really just cements that Colin is so captured by the worst alternative media and parrots their misinfo and disinfo. Lying shitheads like Elon, Tucker, Rogan, All In, Mearshimer, and Lex. He hates msm so much that he takes all these alternative media losers at face value so of course it ended in him voting for Trump. If the Dems are gonna make up any ground they have to do better work in these spaces or people like Colin will always support the Rs.

Zac

The idea that college educated people are better and more nuanced critical thinkers is absolutely ridiculous. I've met some of dumbest, least critically minded thinkers I've ever met in college. College education simply is not indicitive of a critical thinker. And to say "that's why there's no left wing talk radio" is laughable. Do you know how much nuance you can get into in four hours? It seems to me that the Republicans are doing way more to get out the word on their nuanced positions than the Democrats because the Democratic world view absolutely crumbles under the smallest amount of scrutiny.

Greg McDonald

Does Jaffe want Volleyball to be played according to bone density? Sorry but the only fair solution in sports is for trans people to compete against each other.

king_ryan_james

People who voted for Trump because they think their groceries and gas are going to get cheaper are in for a rude awakening. Also really wish Chris was on this for his insight.

Ryan McQueeney

Colin lost his political fastball BIGTIME! Logical fallacies littered throughout

Zachary Beach

Maaaan I love Colin’s thoughts on games always take his recs and respect his opinions. I do not agree with him politically on even one thing here. The main difference is I don’t think being twitter famous is a good qualification for heading up federal agencies.

The Rose Experience

Fair discussion, people chiding Colin for his political stance as ill informed, or just wrong need to realize the guy has forgotten more about politics than you’ll know and you sound stupid just dismissing it as such. A couple things: Love Jaffe, but he can’t reconcile that the messenger wasn’t capable enough to even deliver the message he thinks was there. She couldn’t communicate her platform, or what little Kamala even shared, because she can’t communicate remotely effectively. This election was won on more than the economy, it was 3 tiered. Immigration was nearly equal too and they lost on social issues, particularly the trans issue even if he is trying to downplay it. This gained huge traction and having arrogant leftists continually hand wave well meaning parents trying to protect their children as extremists clearly backfired but that’s the Luberal playbook and it doesn’t seem like they’re learning a thing in the aftermath of this drubbing. You see it in these comments and you see it from the bigger leftist voices; the majority do not agree with you, do not want your ideas, in fact reject them outright and you were gaslit by the echo chamber you dwell in. These are unarguable facts. People don’t like being designated as uneducated either, but by all means keep doing that and see your share of the pie DEI dwindle further. Also, downplaying people concerned about the economy as hurr durr gas and eggs is entirely emblematic of why you lost. Think hard…

Dennis

When Colin talks about Trump and all his faults and criminal cases. It is really clear what media he consumes and the obvious blind spots he has. There are counter arguments for most of his assumptions and conclusions that are not pure TDS. And that dont come from main stream media.

Johan92

Disagree with a lot of Colin’s takes here. There is a strategic reason to help Ukraine and dismissing everything Trump has said is just intellectually dishonest. I would like to know his opinion on the rape charge he was convicted of though. Was that not disqualifying to Colin?

Jason H

I am still surprised at how quickly the election was decided, I assumed it would take weeks with several recounts and a narrow victory contested in the courts by one candidate or the other.

Stanley Stoopish

Colins primary push back to Trumps potential future attempt to stay in power being "I don't think the system would allow it" and not that Trump himself would never do that is fucking INSANE to me.

The Rose Experience

There’s a massive difference between when the collective social media sphere did in 2020 and what Elon just did. I’ll let you figure that out though because it isn’t hard

Ryan

The worst thing since the election has been people talking about Hamas ‘immediately calling for an end to the war’ since Trump got elected… Yeah… they have been since it fucking started 😭😭😭

CJ

Haven’t finished the pod yet, but it’s pretty wild Elon probably won’t be charged with anything having to do with election interference considering he owns a digital town hall where he spews nothing but disinformation. Led By Donkeys on YT did an amazing video on this where they projected a video onto the Tesla building. Wild times!

Macro

So according to Colin, A felon, a rapist (not alleged, proven in court) and a man who explicitly, by his own words, wants to erode constitutional human rights, tax the common man significantly more, dismantle the entire American democratic system, and deport millions of innocent US citizens Is less harmful to Amethca than, A regular weak candidate Nothing I have said is conjecture, nothing I have said is hyperbole, all I have said is backed up by the US courts and Trump's own words

Chris Fazio

If you were a multi-millionaire celebrity with influence and were convinced the front runner for President was an existential threat to the country, wouldn’t you be campaigning with their opponent relentlessly free of charge? The fact they were taking $1 million (or more) fees really undermined that message.

Dan Flynn

Jaffe so much wants to believe all these people voted for Trump strictly cause of money and refuses to accept that no, just a lot of people don’t agree with a lot of the issues he agrees with. It’s more than money.

Stanley Stoopish

Richest man in the world buys Twitter > Declared that it must be a politically neutral platform > Artificially boosts his post reach (not a conspiracy) > shares copious amounts of anti left misinformation under the guise of "@communitynotes, is this right?" > ACTUAL election interference using his "neutral" platform (the right list their mind when this allegedly happened with Meta last time around > Trump gives him a SEAT AT THE TABLE. > Elon now gets say over the people that have over 20 investigations active on his companies > Elon has $3 billion in federal contracts with the government > Why are we praising this? It's fucking absurd. Also, definitely go invest in Tesla. What a disaster.

Mike Maurice

Everyone needs to “stand back and stand by”

Anthony A.

Love these episodes. However, I continue to say we need a guest that is more right than Colin. How about calling old friend Dave Rubin?

NinjaDC

Too soon to say, but my perspective on 3 vs 4 Constellation. I feel for focused topics like this, 3 people that are experts/intimate with a topic works best as it allows more a deep dive. I feel the 4 person format works better for mixed, short topics. The extra person/perspective helps add to smaller topics.

Chetsnooze

Trumps staff appointments are not isolationist whats so ever. Hes given more neocons prominent positions. But I understand this video was probably made before those announcements Trump is going pretty hardcore this time around.

Trill Spencer

Honestly I don’t see the point in having these political episodes when none of the hosts are equipped for it. Colin is clearly deep in the right wing alternative media vortex and rips most of his arguments straight from there. Many of his claims are dubious at best and his arguments are often predicated on pure conjecture or extremely flawed logic. Meanwhile the other hosts basically have to assume that everything he says is true or sound because they aren’t informed enough to fact check him or give proper pushback. Edit: I don’t want to be unfairly critical of Colin. I think he’s intelligent and actually I agree with him on a few things. I just think he’s bought into the alternative media narrative and he makes some outlandish logical leaps to rationalize a lot of typical right wing/pro-Trump stances (all while insisting he doesn’t like Trump). The real issue I have is that nobody on the show knows enough to check him, so he gets to make wild assertions with impunity and it’s just frustrating to listen to. Jaffe on the other hand fits the bleeding heart American “liberal” stereotype more than anybody I’ve ever encountered. His heart is in the right place but his politics are almost entirely based on emotion and he obviously takes whatever the mainstream media says as gospel. He comes across as uninformed and despite being the discussion’s “left wing” representative he pretty much only talks about social justice issues and the same tired Trump indictments we have been bombarded with for eight years and counting. I love Dagan but he contributes almost nothing here. These episodes just shouldn’t be recorded without Gene and Chris, who in previous episodes have at least been prepared to talk about the various points that Colin raises. By the way, it’s fucking hilarious to me that people in the comments want a “real conservative” on these episodes as if liberal/left wing politics are well represented. Overall I’m just really disappointed with the quality of these episodes, which often amount to Colin and Jaffe talking past each other for hours while offering little to no valuable insight on any of the topics they discuss. And before you tell me not to listen to the political episodes if I don’t like them, I won’t anymore, but I wanted to give this one a fair shake before I made that call.

Anthony Palerino

The whole defense for Trump given the insane things he says is “I don’t think he’ll be able to do that”

Bogey

Take a shot every time Hoeg uses the phrase “reasonable minds can differ”

Francis

I thought this was the best politics episode with Jaffe yet. Seemed pretty reserved compared to the other times he was on and it made him a lot easier to listen to. Really enjoyed this episode. Judging from the comments, it seems like not a lot of other people did. lol I'm glad it exists.

Bartevious

College educated Americans aren’t better critical thinkers automatically, in my opinion. I graduated with business administration bachelor of science degree. Major minor certificates etc. working a job tested critical thinking 100000x more than run of the mill degrees Business is one of if not the most common majors aswell

Bartevious

Really disagree with Colin on Israel takes Edit: apart from us gtfo of there And agree that we incited Ukraine war

Alex Marlatt

I like dagen and like when he's the host on a constellation, but he probably shouldn't be on the next political podcast. He rarely speaks more than a question or maybe a sentence, and I've watched the previous political podcasts and it's been the same mostly. Not saying everyone has to be outspoken all the time like Jaffe or Colin, but at times I felt it was the Colin and Jaffe show exclusively. I also think a fourth person would have done wonders here, as an audio listener that has it playing in the background while I'm working all the time, I do typically listen to the whole show even if it's 5 hours long. Should mention as well, I do like the political podcasts, even as someone not into politics in general.

Baker_Shop

Fantastic discussion. Thank you Colin for reason and common sense. Hope there are more of these in the coming future.

CJ

The boxer, Imane Khelif, does not have XY chromosomes. There’s no medical evidence that supports that. The IBA Russian president didn’t want her competing, so he claimed that to be the case, but it’s never been verified. She’s also lost boxing matches.

HoeMalone

I appreciate Colin's ability to respectfully stick to his beliefs and opinions. And IDK who Jaffe is, but it's cool he can be on this podcast and discuss his different beliefs with Colin.

Guybrush Threepwood

3 hours into this and no discussion of trump's appointees. was hoping to hear the guys' takes on these.

Dick Stillhard

I dont think these comments are productive . I see it littered on this very thread, everyone making claims that are either false, half truths or disingenuous that just revert to us vs them. Disappointing

Bailey Callis

Lots of sad progressive babies in this comments section, you guys sure got trounced huh?

Ross Arbour

Even as a non-American, this conversation was fascinating. I know LSM started as a political platform and it shows. In addition to talking games, Colin could fully make a living as a political commentator.

Taylor Wilkerson

Dagan is even more out of touch than Jaffe, holy cow

Marco Maluf

Its hilarious to hear Jaffe with his media rehearsed speech, realizing the election was lost the moment Trump said he was running, and feeling so confident his manchurian candidate was going to win and see the reality of things out of his bubble, brings me great satisfaction, his TDS is so absurd, not laughing about harrys oral joke and going fifth grade “but trump mimimimi” hahahaha go talk about what you really know about… games, don’t try to say anything about what you dont have a clue about.

MediumSuspect

I wonder how they would both reflect on this episode after everything trump has done in the past months? Would be cool to see them revisit this topic
