Is 2025 The Year That Xbox Delivers? | Defining Duke, Episode 210

After two weeks of R&R, the Duke boys are back! Plenty happened while we were away. Everything from Oblivion Remake leaking (again) to a supposed Xbox console dropping in 2026 circulated, so we have much to pick up at the start of the new year. For starters, a Developer Direct looms and the lineup could be stacked if it's to include The Outer Worlds 2, Fable, DOOM: The Dark Ages, and South Of Midnight as expected. The question on the tip of everyone's tongue is simply this: "What is the mystery fifth game appearance?" In year one, it was Hi Fi Rush. Year two gave it to a rare third party appearance in Square Enix for Visions Of Mana. The Duke debate what could show up! We also dive into Xbox's sudden competition with Valve as they've lept headfirst into challenging Windows with their own OS. How has this accelerated Microsoft's plans without a handheld ready? Plus, grim estimates of Xbox's current console sales and, even worse, Xbox's sales hits to Game Pass titles! This title has to be a bit of a joke - because it feels like Xbox fans are always saying “just wait until next year” 🤣

First off: I love Matty and Cog - thanks for all you guys do for us fans. However, I’m tired of hearing and seeing the same message within the Xbox sphere of, “wait one more year” or “is this the year Xbox delivers?” As someone who was an avid Xbox supporter and loved the platform since OG Xbox, seeing the decisions at upper management the past 4 plus years have been disheartening to say the least. This is just some random dudes opinion but the current leadership needs a massive overhaul and I just don’t see how they compete with PlayStation at this point anymore. I’ve personally found nothing enticing about the Series X generation and am curious if there are any other OG fans who’ve hopped to different platforms this gen (Nintendo, PlayStation, etc.)

All facts. Xbox has needed a change in leadership for years now. But the problem is that basically all the big Xbox podcasters and content creators are really friendly with the execs, get great access etc. - so they always bite their tongue a bit and never go in on the likes of Uncle Phil like they should at times.

People have been saying "wait until next year" since the early Xbox One days lol

If there was a deal for BMW the dev wouldn’t comment on the Series versions at all. They’d just say stay tuned like every other dev does. Cog wants there to be a deal so bad & refuses to acknowledge that the Series S is the problem . Some people are just stuck on stupid I guess.

Brian Comstock

If I play all these games on playstation. Did xbox really deliver?

2025 is the year Xbox gets its groove back

Going to the theater alone is actually pretty awesome, I’m very introverted though. Going with friends or a girl is cool too though.
