Insomniac Games' co-founder Ted Price is retiring from the company after a storied 30 year career, but it's what he's leaving behind in his stead that's truly curious: A three-person CEO grouping, virtually unheard of in the corporate world, that hopes to leverage the unique skills of each person. When taken into account with PlayStation's new co-CEO structure, it makes us wonder if Sony seeks to spread the field instead of focus decision-making and responsibility on a single person. Is that such a good idea? We discuss. Meanwhile, Xbox had an exceptional press conference, and as Xbox games are now PlayStation games, we have a few titles of import to go over, including the reveal of the Microsoft-published Ninja Gaiden 4 and release dates for both Doom: The Dark Ages and third party RPG Clair Obscur. Other news this week includes chatter of a $100 pricetag for Grand Theft Auto VI, impressive new gameplay footage for Phantom Blade Zero, the commercial bombing of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and more. We then wrap up with six inquiries from the audience, as is our tradition. Could tariffs on Mexico drive physical game prices higher? Are there more game cancellations than ever, or simply more transparency in the process? Did Xbox miss an opportunity to strike at a vulnerable and underperforming PlayStation? Is Colin over-reliant on email, rendering him an exceptionally old man?

"Suicide is so dark, in my opinion" Colin is coming in HOT with the takes today

Another good history podcast is a podcast called A Short History of. Hour long documentary style podcast covering major events and people in history.

Colin, I bought a Herman Miller Aeron when I moved into my house in 2019 and it's a godsend compared to the bullshit gamer chair I had. It's made a world of difference for my back and you'll love it. Only thing that kind of sucks is playing guitar in it.

I made one of those 1 Like = 1 Prayer posts on FB to gaslight my Puerto Rican elderly aunts from NYC. They believe everything they see on FB so i ran an experiment. I made a split photo of Robert Englund and Freddy Kruger and wrote the captions “This man was badly burned when his Marijuana bong exploded in his face” “1 Like = 1 Prayer” and I swear on everything my aunts thought it was real. You can gaslight the elderly very easily on FB.

The Rose Experience

Colin, pick up your phone, people want to hear your voice. Let your aunt come by, she wants to see your face. This entire segment killed me. I don’t get it, but I kinda get it. I’ve been listening to ‘The Rest is History’ podcast for quite some time. It’s distinctly British, particularly in its humour and that’s a fantastic thing. Honestly, it’s hard to keep up with their output. Big recommend and I had no idea how big of a show it actually is. They’re currently covering Nazi Germany’s rise and the initial invasions of Poland. Super in-depth, lots of perspectives on both sides. Wojtek the Bear! Also as to the break-up. Let it hurt, but not for too long as life moves on and you have to as well, then get to work on yourself. Hit the gym, eat better, take some cold showers, learn a new skill, trust me, it works and you’ll be better for it. Be thankful for all that newfound time you’ll have not catering to someone that isn’t right for you. Use it as fuel to be a better man.

Nah you're right, PlayStation IS an Apple-like company. Meaning, a company with shit leadership, next to no innovation, and constant missteps - who remain alive and "successful" off the backs of third party companies and and a user base too stubborn and prideful to realize the greener pastures. Aaaand scene.

Jason Thompson

The majority of people buying $20 Fortnite skins which are probably kids aren’t the same consumers buying $70 games

Colin, if you don't want to do snap turns in VR, I do suggest moving the camera rapidly and blurring your eyes until you stop at the general direction you want. I think it simulates saccades, the rapid eye movements we do from focal point to focal point with blurriness in between. If you think about it, you're rarely turning your head without some aimed at focal point, but in VR it can be hard to latch onto a focal point if the frame rate isn't high enough.

Pro-husband move when it comes to ring shopping, have your lady look a rings to figure out which style she likes and WAIT till Black Friday to buy something. I got wife's ring 65% off but I could barely afford the $28 a month payment because I was so fucking broke

BazzBlaster

I think that the video game price increase discussion is so off base. Higher prices does not equal higher profits. A $20 game that sells 5 million units is better than a $70 game that sells 1 million. Video games are not a finite resource, and everyone has all the games they need to play. Prices should come down if anything. It's the studio's fault for not being able to control their costs.

PairOfShuse

I really don’t understand what you guys don’t get about Concord. The characters sucked. And why is that? Because they were designed by people pushing these extreme views of people influencing designs and also revealing all of them with their pronouns. From the base level, they were designed with this in mind. This is honest criticism. a lot of games being called woke are being called woke because of their association with Sweet Baby Inc or companies like them. It’s really not hard to understand that’s the reasoning for it. You have to either not be looking at basic details or purposefully obfuscating (which I don’t think Colin or Dustin do). People calling everything woke that has woken or minorities in it are not woke. People that jump the gun and say that, really have no idea what they are talking about. Japanese RPGs have been diverse from at the very least the SNES and arguably the NES. Colin mentions Assassins Creed Shadows which is obvious as he mentions. I would also say even Alan Wake 2 with Saga. I’m pretty sure she was originally a white woman in Quantum Break. Why did they change her? It really didn’t even make sense given her parents and relatives in the game. It was just odd and comes off as just changing race to check a box. It has nothing to do with her being a woman or even her race in and of itself but the weirdness of how it seems forced into parts of the story. In regard to pricing on games - I think they would be fine being more expensive if we actually got games that were finished when they released. You can arguably get a game for half price 6 months later and it run better in every single way. If they are going to raise the price, this needs to be resolved. It’s kinda crazy with Insomniac having three people in charge. I mean, maybe one is more business and task oriented and the others are creatives but it’s still very odd. Sony is doing some fairly odd and extremely dangerous decisions lately

TheWubbz

If video games become 100 bucks the levels of salt will be epic. It sucks but you can’t keep expecting more for less. If a game isn’t worth 100 don’t buy it. If you want it and think it’s worth the price, buy it. Like with most things, the market will decide

Michael McCoy

Phantom Blade 0 is NOT a soulslike! Just wanted to clarify, the devs have said a ton it’s not, and is heavily inspired by DMC and Ninja Gaiden. Also don’t expect a release this year, it’s looking like a fall 2026 release. Maybe a little earlier, development just started in 2022

Tiger Castle

Emailing people for work is totally normal, creates a paper trail and business as usual. Emailing your friends or family about social things is bonkers.

Saleem Krichi

Thanks for the History podcast recommendation! I would like to recommend Real Dictators podcast, amazing production quality!

Diddy’s Dong Quest

Genuinely shocked the 30 fps on mafia 1 didn’t bother Colin. Was there a patch or something recently? Does ps5 pro bump it to 60?

Guy Incognito

Colin, when you’re playing VR standing up, are you still using the right stick to turn? I found this to be the biggest sticking point with motion sickness. When standing, I exclusively use the left stick, don’t even touch the right stick, and that alleviated most of my issues. Body turning is much more comfortable, but sadly can’t used for sitting sessions.

The orange crops dying is fine, there’s going to be no one to pick them anyway

There's nothing going on in Arizona? I'm starting to think Chris only knows about New York and California, and everywhere else is the middle of nowhere to him.

GlazeMaster6900

If VR is making you nauseous or dizzy Colin, let me suggest taking some Dramamine before your next play session. Of course annoying to medicate yourself before you play every time butttttt it should definitely help.

Genius but with downs

Not me screaming at my phone about the Ninja Gaiden releases lol

Kung Fuey

Many YouTubers have already had pre-arranged discussions with the developers about what Phantom Blade Zero is going to be. The developers described it as a game inspired by Ninja Gaiden in terms of combat, with FromSoftware influences in its level design. They even mentioned that Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was another source of inspiration, which can be seen in the "Year of the Snake" clip.

Jason Thompson

When people talk about DEI GAMES they’re talking about games being reported that Sweet Baby Inc made them change their character from male or female or change race or sexual orientation. KCD 2 isn’t woke and those reports were false anyways

Great thumb to the nail to the

The more I listen to this podcast the more I think Dustin is the smartest guy in the room. Always has some mature insights and is intentional when he weighs in

The Rest is ... is a podcast family with some gems. My personal favourite is the Rest is Entertainment with Mariana Hyde & Richard Osman

Fustin Durman

I had never played a Doom game until now, but Colin and Chris inspired me to give it a shot. I started with Doom 2016, and it’s incredible! Next up is Doom Eternal, and then I’ll dive into the Dark ages when it comes out!

Theotokos Respecter

Having a strong fan hit you with wind is what solved my VR Nausea. A lot of it comes from your body not feeling any different while you’re supposed to be moving with so much momentum. Hope this helps!

Cornelius

To Dustin: no I don't think someone whipping his dick out in public in front of me in public and me doing whatever the fuck I want with that video is a big ethical dilemma😂😂 If his dick was to be so private he should have kept it in his pants

Glen Yelenovic

They do have a scholastic book app. The books are still the same shit quality

Hozi

In the kids picking up game consoles: they get them of they know someone older who would get them interested.

In regards to GTA6, I think $70 is thee price point it should release at for the base game. GTAV with everything it did at release in my mind was not worth the $60 I paid. I even went to a midnight release. The game felt disconnected and incomplete. I played Online like crazy when it was available. I waited for so long holding thinking the online heist would rectify my purchase. Unfortunately when they started to decrease the exp gain and nerfed a lot of stuff, I stopped playing entirely. I never got to play the heist so I don’t know if that one portion would have changed my mind. In the retrospect, I don’t believe that would have been the lynch pin for me to feel the price was justified. All I wanted from a west coast setting GTA was improved San Andreas, I felt I didn’t get that. I don’t see GTA6 doing anything ground breaking that other games have done that would justify it being the domino effect to raise prices. Like Chris said, the online portion with skins and cosmetics being the route to gain money and that’s not counting the ridiculous amounts of card sharks they sell. If they have it at reasonable cost of $70 for a standard edition at launch, they’ll get more people to buy and sucker them in with online. This should be the game that is affordable because of what it offers to so many gains them soo much more.

Glen Yelenovic

Dustin, you need to go to the NYC show. Loren Allred was there and performed No Promises to Keep. I was surprised when they said they played it as an instrumental every where else. While I wouldn’t expect her to be on tour at every location, I wouldn’t expect have thought they would have someone in the choir perform.

Kevin Cooper

Also, the charging dock for the VR controllers can go f@ck itself.

Nicholas Cole

I love this podcast but boy am I glad PSVR2 Without Parole exists

Brian

VR motion sickness is very common and often a tolerance that builds the more you use it. Turn 20 minute sessions into 30 and so on. Quit whenever the sickness comes. But your tolerance for it will absolutely increase

when i proposed to my wife i used a cheap cz ring from walmart basically as a decoy ring. and a few weeks later i took her to pick out what she actually wanted. so that way the surprise of the moment of the question was still there, but she gets to keep and wear something she actually likes for life.

Dresk47

Colin if it's your low back have you ever tried doing McGill's big 3 exercises for low back pain? I'm no expert but it's done wonders for me.

Diyomaro

Shame about the VR issues. When I started I got sick in like 10 min. I can do about 2 hours before I start feeling weird. Try brightness all the way down, and try 120fps mode as well.

MISZCZOGRZMOT

I recently platinumed Mafia 1 DE & 2 DE, and I can atest to the level of performances in the cutscenes and how good the story is throughout...until the very end when it ends kinda abruptly. Also the main character's romance felt underveloped, and I don't think we ever even got to see his daughter, which made him leave the mob life in the first place, but still - the characters, their relationships and performances sold it very well. It felt much choppier than Mafia 2 DE for me on PS5, even though they both run @30fps, and the software RT lighting had A LOT of artifacts indoors (boiling, shimmering, ghosting, shiny surfaces were the most problematic), and the shadows had a visible delay filling in sometimes. I couldn't even see the grille details on cars even though it was supposed to run @1440p, guess post-processing was very low res, meanwhile Mafia 2 looked and ran fine for a 1440p 30fps PS4(more like PS3) game. Overall still prefer Mafia 2, even if it is 90% driving to and from missions. I don't think I'll be playing Mafia 3 any time soon, though, - 60hrs to get the plat, lots of missable (and potentially broken) trophies, 2 playthroughs minimum, and the game is supposed to be kinda boring, too.

Bailey Callis

Colin: "Game length =/= Game value" Also Colin: "Games should cost much more than other media because they have more content" Also, games are not necessarily better, or more valuable now just because the technologies better. Otherwise indie games would all cost like 10 bucks 😪 That's like saying Avengers Endgame is more valuable than the Godfather because it has cgi

Beaver diva

You guys give too much air time to the dei nonsense.

Christopher Ricetopher

Man, the pulse earbuds for ps5 also have an obnoxiously designed charging case that makes me feel like a bumbling buffoon when it’s time to pop them back in. I have NO CLUE how remember how to pop them in. It’s comical
