Codename Trinity | Sacred Symbols, Episode 343

Insomniac Games' co-founder Ted Price is retiring from the company after a storied 30 year career, but it's what he's leaving behind in his stead that's truly curious: A three-person CEO grouping, virtually unheard of in the corporate world, that hopes to leverage the unique skills of each person. When taken into account with PlayStation's new co-CEO structure, it makes us wonder if Sony seeks to spread the field instead of focus decision-making and responsibility on a single person. Is that such a good idea? We discuss. Meanwhile, Xbox had an exceptional press conference, and as Xbox games are now PlayStation games, we have a few titles of import to go over, including the reveal of the Microsoft-published Ninja Gaiden 4 and release dates for both Doom: The Dark Ages and third party RPG Clair Obscur. Other news this week includes chatter of a $100 pricetag for Grand Theft Auto VI, impressive new gameplay footage for Phantom Blade Zero, the commercial bombing of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and more. We then wrap up with six inquiries from the audience, as is our tradition. Could tariffs on Mexico drive physical game prices higher? Are there more game cancellations than ever, or simply more transparency in the process? Did Xbox miss an opportunity to strike at a vulnerable and underperforming PlayStation? Is Colin over-reliant on email, rendering him an exceptionally old man? Follow the hosts! Listened to the Custer episodes of "The Rest is History". Fascinating stuff! Meant to recommend to Colin, but figured he's got enough on his plate.

The downplaying of Black Myth Wukong from you guys is such a shame. Easily one of the best games last year.

Rube Rupak

I don’t wanna be THAT guy but a small correction, eggshell is not a shade of white, it’s a finish. Any colour can be in eggshell.

Most people that buy expensive skins do it in competitive games that they play constantly. And they are not planning to stop playing that particular game (ex. Fortnite) maybe ever. So a $25 skin sounds reasonable to them. Plus they don't buy as many single player games so they have more money to throw at that kind of thing.

Jimmy G

Yeah, if you have 1000 hours into a free game and spend even $200 on skins, that’s still only .20 cents per hour of value. A 25 hour long $70 AAA action game is $2.80 per hour. $20 skins in free “forever” games are not a bad value at all for those players.

Shout-out to the person who wrote in about the cancellation drama - well said, sir 🎩. We don't know how far those projects were, and how much was already spent of their development, but everyone immediately reacts as those were almost finished products - well it wouldn't make a good headline if it was else, right? Concord PTSD is real for some, I guess.

Germanos

"Is it the 'wokeness' and 'being gay' that killed Concord?" Yes... and no, as it was the focus of the online rage.

A good chair helps but there's really nothing better than making sure you don't sit down too much. My back feels fine and I've worked in the trades mostly. I'm on my feet most of the time and I make sure to run regularly, work my core, kettlebells and stretch. I think in many ways the mid level to upper levels of the trades actually keep your body healthier

Born-Blind

My heart goes out to the young man dealing with a break up. Colin was and is right that you'll get through this just fine. Colin has been a constant through maybe 4 break ups and a highly contentious diivorce for me personally (thx btw) and I can't imagine my life with any of those people now.

Jordan Dunn

colin, sounds like your aunt likes the pop-in. have you mentioned how much you dislike the pop-in to her?

Colin it's good to see you're having fun with VR but it suck's that you're down with the sickness. Playing a full local motion VR game is like going out for a night of boozing. If you're not used to partaking in the spirits you'll be blowing chunks before you know it. Just pace yourself by playing short segments, take breaks, and hydrate. If you play regularly your tolerance does get better. Before you know it you will be a full blown VR alcoholic. P.S. A couple more tips, playing with out training wheels (e.g. snap turn) is better but harder to get used to at first. Have a fan blowing at you while you playing, this really helps a lot.

I disagree with the idea that because people buy the deluxe edition of certain games for 100$ means everything is all clear for a $30 price hike across all editions of all $70 games. That logic doesn’t make sense to me. “People buy the family size lucky charms for $6 so they must be willing to buy the small box for $6 as well!” I don’t think that would work out. Haha I do think games need to be evaluated for the content they provide and priced appropriately. Screw a “standard”, in my opinion

Adam T. Shafto

This right here. I’m really prone to VR sickness and taking it a little at a time helped immensely. In addition to that try sucking on some ginger candy while you’re playing. Another thing that helped me was to turn free look on with all the games I played but have the sensitivity cranked all the way up. I know it sounds like it would make it even worse but it actually does the opposite and makes it a far better experience (at least in my case).
