Illusion Never Changed Into Something Real | Sacred Symbols, Episode 344

Just last year, Sony had grand designs of a new PlayStation leadership structure executing on an exciting multi-pronged strategy, but only three fiscal quarters later, the plan has come undone. Hideaki Nishino and Hermen Hulst were bestowed co-CEO roles -- the former looking after hardware and services, the latter after software -- but now, Nishino will hold the CEO role alone, with Hulst demoted and now reporting directly to him. While Sony Corporation itself made some other changes as well, including installing Hiroki Totoki as the larger entity's CEO, changes to PlayStation's executive structure so soon after alterations were first made says something rather clear: Bad choices were made, and rectifying them as quickly as possible is the best idea. We discuss. Other news this week includes Xbox quickly becoming PlayStation's biggest publisher, with yet another Xbox game -- Forza Horizon 5 -- en route to PS5, rumblings of new films for Resident Evil and Beyond: Two Souls, PlayStation 5 continuing to outsell the PS4 in the US when adjusted for time, layoffs at BioWare following Dragon Age's tumultuous end, MLB: The Show 25 skipping PS4 for the first time since the console launched, and more. Listener inquiries wrap things up. Is NCSoft's Horizon MMO cancelled? How does a game's budget actually get determined? Should future Dragon Quest games abandon Akira Toriyama's art style? Will Colin's Herman Miller chair ever arrive? Follow the hosts! So interesting that these Xbox games sell like crazy on Ps5 but people don't seem to want them on Xbox. I wonder what's the disconnect cause it's the same game.

Colin, I might suggest that you have a fan pointed towards you when playing VR. That really helps me from feeling sick when I play.

Am I missing something here?? This is coming from a genuine place. I get that the PS5 console is selling well, but it doesnt seem like software is selling the same way as last gen on the platform and sequels to big titles aren't hitting the same way (not that they're selling bad terrible), 3rd party exclusive games on the platform dont seem to be selling tremendously well (not terrible), and Sony doesn't sell their consoles with high margins. I'm in agreement that their first party output lacking is not the end of the world at the moment. But as we do eventually move into a more "platform/ecosystem/app" world - wouldn't their output begin to matter more and more?? Hardware based devices in a lotnof categories have been seeing lower and lower numbers of sales. People used to buy new Smartphones every other year if not yearly, we used replace laptops regularly, my TVs have been chugging along for years. At some point, console hardware sales will slow even if it's only due to more and more people needing to upgrade to the next console especially if what you get on the next console, and the next console, progressively decline. Am I missing something?? This is coming from a genuine place.

Well that's not really an accurate representation of things. For one, Not every Xbox game doesn't sell or sell well on Xbox/PC... but more importantly, and primarily....and I'm sure you know this... but they offer and encourage their users to take advantage of their subscription service with day1 releases .. and they never remove their first party titles from the service, which seems to be uncommon with Playstations service if I am remembering correctly.

Colin, unfortunately you can’t rest away Tendinitis. Look up Starting Strength Tendinitis and people associated with Starting Strength on YouTube.

Mark Davis

I am on Bluesky, and fortunately I haven’t had the issues you mentioned. I would like to move away from X because it seems filled with negative people and I am not an Elon fan. Wish Bluesky had more people moving over.

Have you guys taken as to how many copies of SP2 on pc have been downloaded from torrents? I think Sony should abandon pc ports altogether. All they do is steal & complain. Between getting all of Xbox’s games &. their own 1st party, they should be well positioned to dominate . Only on PlayStation needs to return on all PS releases.

Regarding the golden era of gaming question, what l’d recommend is create your top 25 games of all time list and then write down what year they came out next to each one and you can gauge where your 10 or so years of golden era gaming lie.

Guybrush Threepwood

MAFIA TRILOGY - got this for $9.60 on the xbox store.l No idea why i got this offer and why its so cheap but check it ya'll if ur on xbox. the first game alone is worth $10.

A lot of xbox guys are very much COD/Fortnite/FIFA/NBA2K/Madden guys in my experience. They aren't the type to buy tons of games, then you add in GP. Just my experience! I love all the consoles but I think I've only spent under $20 on Xbox outside of GP in my 3+ years of owning the console

Tony LaMacchia

Weird…didn’t like that trophy comment I guess lol…deleting comments mark zuckerberg style. How about the time Chris had to beat the titanfall 2 time trial for you to earn a platinum. I guess we can put an asterisk next to that one like Sammy Sosa 😉 keep making great content guys!
