Like A Worn-Out Recording of A Favorite Song | Sacred Symbols, Episode 353

We don't make the news; we merely report and dissect it. So it's not our fault that this week's episode focuses quite a bit on some older topics come alight, starting with a new Helldivers 2 postmortem. Developer Arrowhead's CEO recently gave an interview, displaying a surprising level of accountability and levelheadedness about the ups and downs of their mega-popular game. Then, we talk a whole lot about Nintendo, because literally half of our listener inquiries this week were on the topic of Switch 2. Switch's successor is a mere months away, and while there's no doubt a lot of excitement, there also seems to exist an unusual amount of skepticism, and even anger and animosity. Will Nintendo be able to capture its first generation-to-generation success story since NES and SNES? Or are we looking at more of the same-old same-old? After, we get into rumors of yet another The Last of Us-related re-release, a mysterious physical edition at a premium price, but with contents unknown. Have we had enough, already? Other news includes data on Xbox's publishing performance on PS5, fresh sales and player numbers for the likes of Death Stranding and Atomfall, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! With the reveal of The Duskbloods on Switch 2 and because there's no Bloodborne news seemingly ever, is it clear that FromSoft has beef with Sony? Should we be worried about the survival of Ubisoft's studio Massive, and thus the future of The Division? Are physical game gimmicks getting awfully close to jumping the shark? How did we accidentally appear in a popular YouTube series about bad drivers? Follow the hosts! I just wanna know if Colin addresses the tariffs in this video or if he is gonna address the current nintendo news related to the tarifs. I need the people that voted for Trump in LSM to at the very least acknowledge that you were maybe a bit wrong JUST in this particular area, I dont even wanna get into other shit. Honestly, that shouldnt be so difficult and its what i expect from normal people as well, especially since we are all about that here. Im officially priced out of the system and its not gonna get any cheaper. Nothing ever does.

For anyone who finds the guy who says he “lives in 6 hour increments” funny, search “low iq podcast moments” on Tik-Tok, there’s a treasure trove of similar levels of stupidity out there, it’s glorious.

I voted for this. I voted for tariffs. Nintendo delaying pre-orders for the Switch2 has not changed that. Tariffs are being used to encourage the reshoring of American industry. They are not used to continue the flood of cheap foreign baubles. I would like a cheap Switch2 but its price and availability don’t make it on my list in the booth at the ballot box.

The only thing that could tempt me to buy this new TLOU edition would be if they remastered Factions, but I think we all know thats a near 0 chance.

TL

They very briefly touch on it (Colin).

How certain are you that things will improve and what’s your source of confidence for all this? I’d really like to not have this level of anxiety anymore. I’m not into Trump, I haven’t liked him since Home Alone (serious). But when he won, I really was hoping for things to improve. Essentially, I want you to be right. Like 1000% right. But alas…

Unemployable troon

Honestly bud, none of us really know for sure. I feel like the counties are risk adverse and will roach out at the final moment but your guess is as good as mine

Troy C

I mean, imo it’s pretty clear that he intentionally crashed the economy. I didn’t look into it myself, but he apparently tweeted it out or posted it on truth social or whatever. Also, I think it’s not out of the realm of possibility that the rest of the world just tells him to F off and figure out other options/create new ones. I also don’t see how just placing tariffs immediately creates jobs/factories etc. so, maybe it is a scare tactic, but then that loops back around to the world just saying F you…you’re on your own. I’m not an economist, but you’d think you would want to create the infrastructure first, so that the restoring is possible so people aren’t taxed so harshly.

3:30:23 Absolutely, Dustin. As a gamer who's strangely primarily into both XBOX and PlayStation equally, and also owning a Switch while rarely using it, I listen to all of your shows and greatly enjoying the diffrent ecosystem perspectives. Even Nintendo's, which I'm just as interested in, although with my practical gaming focus being on the former two. So pretty much all of you being multi-plat while having your individual platform focus makes all the shows more interesting to me. It gives me sort of a collective wide angle industry birds eye view, which makes LSM truly relevant not only for me but gaming period.

@pianopower Fair enough, I think thats a valid concern. @troy C " I also don’t see how just placing tariffs immediately creates jobs/factories"... JUST IN: The U.S. added 228,000 jobs in March, blowing past economists' expectations. -Abc News. Today 4/4/25 I know it didn't 'cause' it, but the timing... come on! The world’s 500 richest people lost $536 billion in the past two days. And for some reason Vox hates this.

Diddy’s Dong Quest

I love how Chris acts like he’s not buying a Switch 2. Dude is gonna get it asap.

While I understand and agree with most of the points you guys have made regarding the new Nintendo pricing, there’s one aspect that consistently puzzles me. Whenever this topic comes up, it seems no one mentions how well these companies are actually performing. Year after year, their profits continue to grow, and just recently everyone was talking about how platforms like Nintendo and PlayStation sell the most consoles compared to Xbox etc. From the outside, it appears they’re thriving—not struggling or facing any financial hardship. So while I acknowledge that game development costs are rising, I can’t help but question: do they really need to increase prices when the companies themselves are doing so well year after year?

In regards to "resting bitch face", I was watching a FFXV video from 10 years ago and among the top comments were people talking about Colin's RBF and (jokingly) asking if he was upset. I thought to myself, "some things never change." lol

The Hogwarts Legacy DLC will become the next game or part of it. Why not to release an expansion for less? Because how much was spent on it. If you targeted a $30 DLC and budgeted it accordingly, you cannot then release it for less. You don't work on a project and at the end decide how much it is worth.

Jordan Dunn

I dont understand how Jeff's wife can be upset with him sharing her eating habits with podcast listeners. considering she was confronted about it when eating in public, and rightly so, she clearly does not eat differently in private and public so is not trying to keep it a secret. Is she hoping for the trend to catch on, like Mr pitt eating a snickers bar with a knife and fork? Surely anyone who has ever witnessed her eat would be perplexed and wonder how such a habit could ever have developed. its as unnatural as someone who choses to only walk on their hands. Nobody would ever do that unless they were inviting attention.

Miracle Peach

Sometimes, the level of authority that Chris talks with on an issue, while so clearly having no idea what he’s talking about, is jarring. Does he know anything about businesses or stocks? The richest people like Bezos, Elon, Zuckerberg are billionaires bc they FOUNDED massive, world and society-changing companies, resulting in significant ownership of that company, followed by the company skyrocketing due to its innovation/success. They also work out pay packages that are agreed upon by the board of directors and the shareholders of the stock. For example, Elon forewent a salary in exchange for his 2018 to 2028 pay package. With this, the milestones he agreed to that he had to have Tesla meet in order for him to get paid were so lofty, that you can look up footage from CNBC, etc. where people were basically scoffing or mocking it, saying it was impossible to achieve in 10 years or ever. He led Tesla to hit the loftiest milestone within just 3-4 years—thus his exploding wealth. The Board and Tesla’s shareholders voted on this pay package TWICE, once before and after he achieved the milestones. None of this involves stealing. The most remarkable minds make the most remarkable money. You can disagree with the amount of money people should be allowed to have, and you can even argue that some billionaires stole, but claiming all did so to achieve their money is baseless and reveals a blatant lack of knowledge on the subject. Also, the pompous ignorance Chris has to speak like he could so easily run a multi-billion dollar company, such as Nintendo, is, in Chris’s words, wild. Being correct a few times about the right decision for a company doesn’t mean you could be a CEO. And thinking this way doesn’t negate a CEO’s right to a high salary.

I'm pretty close to saying fuck it and letting my kid listen to the show in full. As it stands right now I sort of currate sections of the show on occasion... Haven't explained "brown eye" yet though

Born-Blind

You start seeing "eye to eye" with your kid sooner than you might think. It doesn't all happen at once it happens in stages which almost makes it more interesting

Born-Blind

Cmon Colin these kids are too young for TI-83 Calculator games. I remember the best one being this whacked out Zelda clone that took up nearly all the damn space on the machine
