When you hear the names Colin Moriarty and David Jaffe, the first thing you no doubt think of is Nintendo. That's why we wanted to take a little time today to discuss the reveal of Switch 2, and get into the potential demand for the new machine, the pricing of the hardware and software, and whether Nintendo can pull off its first back-to-back home console sales victory since the NES and SNES. We also get into some other heady topics, too: The unsustainability of PlayStation's high production values (an arms race Sony itself started), whether I (Colin) am crazy about Steam potentially running on Xbox making no sense whatsoever, what the future holds for Ubisoft (it's not looking good for much of the company), and much more. Please enjoy.

Wall bouncing in WW1

I’m sure everyone will be rational and sane in the comments.

Too bad this probably was recorded before Nintendo decided to postpone preorders thanks to Trumps tariffs. Would be a VERY interesting conversation especially between those two

The Association of Associates

We are so fortunate to have someone as knowledgeable on the industry as Jaffe on the show so regularly. I sincerely feel bad for people that are blinded by hate and refuse to listen to him.

Master Zeta

Love these episodes. Never change

JT Russell

Love the way these 2 talk about games. 2 different mind sets coming together. So rare

Slander on Horizon FW needs to stop man

Jaffe, there’s probably a lot of toxic positivity going on in these studios. I agree that in the end these studios have to SELL a product that is FUN to PLAY to a consumer base.

Dante B

I love Jaffe and always will. I have no idea how you could think TLOU 1 is pretentious and not 2. I love them both. I also like where Colin was going with the pretension discussion. It’s evolved into something inherently negative over time. Those games are pretentious and whether that bothers you is a separate conversation.

Brian McHale

Just wanted to comment that Jaffe is my favorite part of Last Stand (love everyone though) because Colin has mentioned he has been getting some pretty crazy hate from certain people in this community for some reason.

Kelzilla

That thumbnail is so cursed… 10/10

Robbie Agnew

Yeah thumbnail is horrid 🤣

I feel like Colin contradicts himself on the "Why would MSFT allow Steam to be on Xbox platforms" topic. He states nobody buys games on Xbox, yet also says MSFT risks people buying from steam over them if they put both storefronts on the device. Doesnt the fact they dont buy games mean their not at risk of losing anyone with this move? The reliable rumors have said the next xbox will be more PC focused through Windows in its infrastructure and an Emulator will be the answer to bringing games from the previous generations for those with a previous Xbox library. Microsoft could tattoo the phrase "We want you to be able to play games wherever and however you choose" onto peoples inter eyelids and they will still ignore it. They are now a 3rd party seller but like Steam, Playstation, Nintendo, and any other platform/storefront, they have a dedicated audience whose library is on Xbox and they will choose to buy there regardless of offerings elsewhere. They are losing customers no matter what they try and ultimately if its low cost to make a glorified PC every few years thats a plugin and play device where you dont need to deal with common PC setup bullshit, it still will be of value to consumers to the point its worth offering on the market. Love Colin x Jaffe chats.

I'm so glad Jaffe mentioned the boring nonsense that is in some modern Sony games. His comment that the writers are running the show more than the game designers was very interesting. I feel many of the Sony studios are trying really hard to be Naughty Dog - Ragnorok via the Atreus cow level, Spiderman 2 with the bike riding flashback. But ONLY Naughty Dog do flashbacks and the quieter moments with poignancy and finesse.

An absolute joy to hear Jaffe! Always a fun convo. Love & Respect.

I absolutely love these episodes with Jaffe! You guys often mention Jaffe getting fire from the audience so I need to be more vocal here and express that I enjoy content. Also, Colin you mentioned streaming the shows live. Honestly my take is that’s probably a waste of time. Instead a new show where the main focus is that it is a live show sounds more compelling to me. You guys already do so much though so it’s difficult to see where that would fit in with the current programming.

Adam Martinez

You guys need to do this more 🔥 once a week? Bi weekly? Something to think about

Steve

Great episode. Love the Moriarty x Jaffe combo. Jaffe had a lot of interesting well laid out thoughts during this one.

Samuel Jervis

The Sunday show should be Colin X Jaffe. Retire Sacred Symbols+ name but still keep the essence, essentially just add Jaffe as a Co-host with a new name for the show. Great episode as always.

Senor Benjamin

Always look forward to these episodes, Jaffe you mad man!

I commented on the side quest recently re: the “genesis plays both” point Jaffe was mentioning, which is that it’s a potential checkmate for Sony. If Xbox gives you steam + Microsoft store + access to PS4+PS5 games on Steam, it puts Sony in a precarious position. You can’t have a static PS6 in that scenario with a walled garden. The competition has everything. So while their storefront is eroded and you publish everywhere, your competition is forced to adapt to meet you. I just didn’t hear you, Colin, rebut that, but maybe I am missing something.

Xenomorph Moriarty

The comparison between Silent Hill 2 and a Black Mirror episode is unfair to silent Hill 2

About to listen! Good shit boys! This slowly needs to be a regular thing 🍻

BazzBlaster

Jaffe is the best guest because he will give the most 10/10 gaming opinions you've ever heard, and then when politics comes up; he will pull his pants down, wedge the mic between his cheeks, and start farting

Screwed Mcfucked

Not sure I understand what Colin means when he suggests Nintendo seems "Unprepared" from a content front. Mario Kart World DK Bananza Metroid Prime 4 (cross gen) Kirby Air Riders Compare this to the PS5's launch window exclusives Demon Souls Sackboy (cross gen) SM Miles Morales (cross gen) Bugsnax or Series X launch ( ) The Switch 2 lineup seems to be at least on par with their competition. At least from a quality front. Good episode though,

Moistescarjoe

I’d trade progress for the HUMAN SOUL

Jacob Lesperance

My kids and their friend groups are completely different experience than Jaffes. They love console gaming and even more than that. VR.

TD

This was a great listen! Colin X Jaffe is a great combo.

Del Griffith

Moriarty x Jaffe rules. Love these episodes.

Jeffrey Rommel

Phew - Jaffe is dropping a lot of truth bombs in this episode.

Aaron

Jaffe believing Colin’s story of drag x drive at 50:40 lol

Claude

That’s how I use gamepass, month to month. Costs £9 on CDkeys for ultimate for a month

Gooch Gobbler

I guess I just thought they'd have a bit more after such a long time without any consequential games and apparently pushing back the launch 6 months-year. I hope we get a big game every 3 months at least

Gooch Gobbler

Man these shows have been the best part of LSM with so little PS news the past year or so. Really great ideas and interesting takes. We love ya Jaffe!

Screwed Mcfucked

Compared to the swan song the PS4 got (the one they intended anyway) of Death Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima within a year of PS5's launch, yeah Echoes of Wisdom and Mario Party Jamboree don't exactly compare. Surely there's good stuff percolating, and I'm sure we'd prefer announcements happen as close to launch as possible (hopium?). Sidenote : As someone who spent probably 150 or so hours with Odyssey, I feel like DK Bananza's gotta be the same team, just on vibes. And I hope it surprises people.

Matt Kuryloski

I literally can’t get enough Jaffe and Colin. They really bring out the best in each other. M

Aaron

When your system depends on first party titles almost exclusively you gotta have a lot primed.

Kladknee .

My boys @ it fucking again!!!

Ryan

I really think the ‘unprepared’ feeling really just comes from no new mainline Mario or Zelda. Also I know it’s very unique, but Airride and MK is two kart racers for first party launch titles

Screwed Mcfucked

Although definitely time for a 3d Mario, then they would have 2 pairs of similar games around launch, as DK seems to be filling that role. TOTK is only 2 years old (Although functionally an insane standalone expansion for a 8 year old game) Would've been a great time for Windwaker or Twilight Princess HD though, as I can see why someone might be burned out on the current formula while we wait.

Michael Ryan

These need to be a regular monthly occurrence.

Jaffe is 100% right about playstation writers being pretentious, and having president over the direction of the product. I think that's the thing people dislike about horizon, it's such a fun, crazy premise, yet it takes itself so damn seriously that it comes off as corny

southish

Yeah, I don't understand his complete reluctance on this because I can see this working a couple of different ways especially if MSFT worked out a deal with Valve (this has been done with other publishers from small to large) but the way he talks about or has the last few times, makes it sound like it is completely impossible which I would never ever assume that these days, never not anymore at least. Maybe a few years ago I would agree with Colin 100% but the situation Xbox is in is a complete wild card with the wick burning on both ends no matter what they do.

southish

I can understand that, I always hear gameplay comes first these days but my unpopular opinion is that I prefer a good narrative & general writing over good gameplay. I get why people need gameplay first or maybe they need both but narrative just matters more to my enjoyment.

southish

It was much worse a few months ago, its more chill now although there are still some weird outbursts.
