It may only be about five years old, but The Last of Us: Part II is quite easily one of the greatest games of all-time. Thus, it not only deserves its own episode of KnockBack, but a seven-ish hour one, the longest show in Last Stand history to date. Divisive even before it came out -- but absolutely dripping with style, message, and storytelling -- TLoU2 is a tale about endless violence and cyclical revenge, the kind that you simply can't back away from. The deeper Ellie and Abby fall into their timeless feud, the less they gain and the more they lose. But they just can't help themselves. They refuse to. It's at the heart of what makes this game so incredibly great, and perhaps what makes it so very controversial, too. There's little else to say, other than that the Brothers Moriarty wanted to give love to one of gaming's most phenomenal adventures. Click play for the result...

Robert Byers

I can’t even say how excited I am to see this out of nowhere. In 2020 I played the game over 7 months and have been wanting to get through it again before the show starts. I just finished a second play through yesterday and to have this is to start the week is amazing!

Andres

WHAT THE HELL LET'S GO!!!!!!!!!

Angel

So glad you guys got to do this before s2. I can't wait to see if anything had been spoiled for the Dagster before playing

Dikkbig Though

So hype to hear our favorite Moriarty back again!! Other than the phenomenal Ms. Betty Ann. Our favorite is back!

Napoleon in Rags

This may take me a few days (weeks?) to get through, but for one of my top 5 games of all time, I'll make the time to listen from beginning to end...

Cruz Ibarra

I disagree that this game was to long and also disagree with red dead redemption being to long. I understand your point though and can see why you believe that.

Cory

7 hours so you had better mention Bruce Straley or the fact you can't shoot symbols in the synagogue but can shoot the American flag.

Anthony Rented

WTF! Much appreciated for the work yall put in on this but geez…7 hours. Thank you.

Daddy T

Skimming through the comments and it seems you’re the first dickhead to kick off, just leave them chat about the game and what they enjoyed about it, Dagan isn’t on what you’re on

Shadi Haddad

This is the podcast I wish we got 5 years ago. Thanks for doing this.

Trent Piccicacco

This came at the perfect time, I’m grinding to level 99 in Adventures of Mana lol

7 hours of discussing the Greatest game of all time

iDrewby

I double checked the episodes description to make sure the length wasn’t an issue with the file! Part 2 is one of my favourite games so I can’t wait to listen through all of this!

Ser Gahndo

Is this real?!? We are not worthy!

Cyprus Davis

7 hours daaaayum. The game is a masterpiece so I’m excited to hear the Daegster’s thoughts!

Mysterious Narrator

This episode needs to be nominated for a podcast Oscar award. TLOU2, I remember the moment so vividly. I also was not spoiled in my experience. Perhaps an unpopular take but, our actual pandemic during the release made this game even more enjoyable for me. I giggled at all the the online haters upset about this game. They were doing their best to cope by playing Animal Crossing. Afraid to embrace the that moment because it felt too real with reality. I love how Degan is like a innocent child oblivious to what's in store. This game is the benchmark in 3rd person action/adventure storytelling. I don't project my wants or desires in any media. Just give me a thoughtful experience and Niel gave me that in spades. I will always respect that man.

Cory

Ludonarrative Dissonance ever mentioned?

Antony

7 hrs. Good lord.

NUTSO JIMBO

7 hours for my favourite game of all time. Time to relive my depression all over again.

Your Boi Nicky V

Only an hour in and this is really making me want to replay it. Even though I honestly despised my first playthrough.

NUTSO JIMBO

I didn't despise the game first time but thought it dragged on for too long. My second play through several years later on PS5 was much better. Do it!

Muskrat Mike

Colin finally gets to talk about the game with somebody else who enjoys it hahaha

Grahamer Naughtsi

Welp......let's see how far I can get. Ain't no way I'm finishing this lol.

Ryan Taylor

7 hours! Perfect soundtrack to listen to while grind some division 2

Russell Robinson

Almost as long as my work shift damn. Welp...

Justin 24Hr

The most autistic thing he’s ever done

Mykal

Y’all are insane! TLOU 2 was the most intense gaming experience I’ve ever had. I was physically sick to my stomach at multiple moments due to how emotionally gripping the story was (finale especially). I agree that it’s a Top 3 game of all time for me. Absolute masterclass 🔥

Deemac

I recently started to replay it ahead of the new TV season, first time since 2020, now playing PS5 version. Have got up until Abby day 1 (which is where I'm guessing season 2 ends). Whatever about the criticisms of the game (which I think is OTT in general - but each to their own - though I do think there are valid points such as the game dragging on too long) - in a technical sense, the game is a marvel. It looks absolutely incredible, and the combat is so good, such an upgrade on their previous games. Really makes me even more excited to see what ND can do with Intergalactic

Your Boi Nicky V

That's the main problem for me. I just couldn't stand the pacing. Now I've seen the ending, I might be a bit more patient and enjoy the journey.

GxblinSlayer

TLOU 1 and 2 are the only games I've finished and immediately said, " Well, that was a lot. Never playing that game again." In the best way possible. I never want to lose the feeling of those endings. My first and only playthroughs are the ones I want to remember. Not going back to the games was definitely easier with Part 1 since Factions ruled so hard. Thanks for this 7 Hours!!! For the 12 hour shift people this is a godsend.

Del Griffith

The end sequence of that game made me feel a way I've never felt playing a video game. It was a masterfully done experience.

Girth Brooks

I’d be interested to hear Colin’s take on why he finds the inclusion of pride flags in Spider-Man 2 to be excessive or heavy-handed—described as “begging you to notice”—while he seemingly overlooks the inclusion of nearly every non-traditional element imaginable packed into TLOU2, which could also feel forced. In real life, outside of something like an anti-Trump rally, the chances of encountering a random group featuring a lesbian, a bisexual, an interracial couple, a transgender child, and a masculine female Olympic bodybuilder are incredibly slim. How does this kind of diversity not also qualify as “begging us to notice”? I’m genuinely curious about his reasoning on this distinction.

Girth Brooks

and Dagan was paid to “enjoy it” 😂

C

The Last of Us Pt II is the only game that has ever left me sitting in silence feeling numb after finishing it. I felt like I went through every single emotion that Ellie went through during the game, to the point I couldn’t play another game for almost a month. It has issues and a replay is tough, but it is the standard when it comes to video games in my opinion. I have about 10-12 hours of power washing to do in a week and I had about a dozen constellation episodes picked out to get me through it, and now ye fuckers put this out… god I am eating good.

Maid Addison94

When people say that the LGBT stuff in spider-man 2 is "forced on them" i genuinely get confused, it takes place in NYC, every other block has like 3 pride flags.

Diddy’s Dong Quest

While I don’t think this game is truly “perfect” like Part 1, Part 2 has higher highs. Say what you want- but NO game in the past five years is more interesting to talk about. The Hogwarts Legacy and AC Shadows controversies are farts in the wind compared to TLOU 2’s controversy. It turned one of gamings most beloved studios into the enemy of many gamers. TLOU Part 2 is a top 25 game for me

Girth Brooks

I’m starting to think these LSM podcasts are just a symptom of a mental condition, presented as content.

Jonathan Gould

I saw this drop last week and said, oh badass I’d love a knockback on TLOU 2, great idea. Went to listen to it just now and found out it’s SEVEN FUCKING HOURS. Is this Christmas? You treat your minions far too well. Can’t wait to listen.

Cai

THIS is a spoilercast. In think having just two hosts allows you to get an extra level deeper. And I think the structure and approach to the conversation is much better than the usual go around the horn and get high level thoughts. I don’t expect this for every game (95% wouldn’t need it) but this is a great discussion guys!

pbsandwich_

tbh I think a lot of it is just bigotry, or people being straight up homophobic if their take is that kind of stuff is "forced on them" in a video game.

Big Man

What the fuck is wrong with you people? Thank you regardless

Girth Brooks

Nah, it’s not as simple as “everyone who puts 2 and 2 together has an irrational fear of gay people”. I can tell this game is very much a product of modern trends and I’ve never had a reason to be afraid of gay people. Your homophobia claim is rather tired and it seems you didn’t understand my comment.

Bogey

I feel like you didn’t cover the game deeply enough. You should probably just do another podcast and try again

pbsandwich_

uh what? i was replying to Arkvoodle. I wasn’t saying you are, I was saying a lot of people (not all) who have these takes and are afraid of these “woke” concepts to the point where including LGBT aspect such as pride flags are “forced on them” are homophonic. I agreed with your general statement lol

Terrorist Jerry

Seeing the 7 hour time line absolutely made my week. Very few games deserve this kind of analysis so I’m glad you revisited it Colin. I’m sure you’ll get some hate but listening to you talk about games your passionate about is why I became a fan so many years ago. Fuck the haters. Let’s get an 8 hour podcast on forbidden west next lol

Girth Brooks

Oh damn that’s my bad then. Sorry mane.

Daniel

I love TLOU like the rest of us, but to say The Walking Dead isn’t about the human element is a little off base. It set the standard for TLOU in that regard, it’s just that the show isn’t always great at representing that where the comics go all-in dissecting human nature (and the lengths we’ll go for those we love) at the end of the world.

Genius but with downs

Only 7 hours? I feel like Colin is putting in part time hours these days. Gonna have to change his name to Arthur Job

Bartevious

I wouldn’t expect them to talk about it in a spoilercast. I didn’t know of any of this stuff though. Is it true that the synagogue is very uniquely clean of the apocalypse compared to the rest of the locations in the game? Is it true that you can decimate the Catholic Church with your weapons (“there is a wooden statue of Mary and you can fill it with of holes” -tlou2 Reddit post) but can’t shoot anything in the synagogue? Again, I wouldn’t expect that to be a topic of this show. But is this really all true? I didn’t know any of this and this is like, 5 min of google research.

Bartevious

You gotta get more sleep Mr. Fredette

PairOfShuse

I was going to make a post about this when I heard Colin talk about it, and I couldn’t believe how off base he was about The Walking Dead. How can he see the themes of The Last of Us yet completely miss everything about TWD and think it’s just about survival. The show goes through so many phases - the beginning is more trying to find each other, survive, and figure out what’s happening. Then it goes to how can I be a good moral person in this world, while I’m being told to be that kind of person and that I’m not doing what’s best at the same time, only to then be judged for making the hard decisions to keep everyone together. Colin and Dagan were talking about the difficult communities and how they each do something different and the walking dead does that as well. You get to see many many different kinds of settlements and groups and how they each try to make it work, how they sometimes try and integrate into those communities and what they can make of their own. What happens when you come up against a group that is way more hostile, what happens when you get to some of the more fucked things that one groups does to survive (not going to spoil it). At one point, Rick has to decide will “his mercy prevails over his wrath” even when people have done vile things to you, your family, and your people. You don’t have to like the walking dead, but to write it off when it’s done everything the last of us does, before it shows not paying attention to the show and its themes. Hell even when Colin said with the prison, there were all these new characters like it was a bad thing. Another theme of the show is how do we carry on without the people who helped get us where we are at. What does that do to someone and how does it affect you? Just a totally wild take to have after saying if you think The Last of Us is just a zombie show, you must be brain dead.

Girth Brooks

Granted I had to get up early for a flight but I still slept 6.5 hours.

PairOfShuse

Tommy got the short end of the stick in this game and the way people treated him enraged me. It was his actual brother who gets killed and Ellie and their group constantly do not give him any credit after he does more than almost anyone else working on his own. The one time when you could go to check to see if it’s him and if he’s ok, Ellie is like eh, nah we’re going this way, made me hate Ellie with a passion. That and when Jesse rightfully told her and Dina people rely on them when they got high. Honestly, if that didn’t happen, they may have met up with Joel and Tommy and stopped his death.

Brandyn Ramos

Thank you guys for doing this. The discussion around this game is always so one note and frankly immature in my opinion. It’s so refreshing to get into it without the entire conversation being dominated by the first 2 hours of the game. This game is complex, deep, real, messy like real life, horrifying and really is so human at its core. I sincerely think it’s only rivaled by novels.

Cory

Yes, it is exceptionally clean and free from post-apocalypse stylings. I'm not sure about the Catholic stuff, but the point I'm trying to make is the only reason there is a synogogue is because Druckmann had personal influence on Part 2 where it was not present in the 2013 Last of Us. That was all Bruce Straley. And as a matter of fact, I have met Druckmann in person at an event in Seattle (as well as Halle Gross) and I have no ill will towards him as an individual. I just don't need the inevitable IDF apologism that will be in Part 3.

Pen Rippey Jr.

Bravo, Brothers Moriarty! This is the level of depth and consideration that TLOU2 requires. Thank you for this!

Bogey

Ellie snuck off on her own to go check out the hospital. They weren’t there together. He just went after her. Joel specifically says she ran off in the middle of the night and left him a note.

Bogey

Did he say that about Spider-Man? I almost distinctly remember him saying it makes sense for those flags to be shown in Spider-Man since it’s New York. I think it was Suicide Squad where he said it felt outta place.

Angel

Did Colin say we dont know what happened to the wolf deserters? Colin, those are the ones that jump you at the work bench

Russell Robinson

At 6:05 they're talking about no payoff for the sniper. Isn't the sniper Tommy? Am I mistaken.

Girth Brooks

I think Neil showed Abby’s sex scene but didn’t show Ellie and Dina’s because we all know lesbian sex is fundamentally silly. It would only break the tone of the game if they started scissoring and rubbing their vaginas together like they’re trying to start a fire, or if Ellie whipped out a belt from her backpack with a dildo attached to it and strapped it around her waste to peg Dina by emulating hetero-sex which is sort of like admitting you actually do like penis, but just hate men.

Bogey

How did yall both miss that the sniper that killed Manny was Tommy?

Bogey

Yup it definitely was Tommy. Crazy that they both missed that. But shit happens I guess

Maid Addison94

Colin just wanted to let you know seeing this made me go out and buy a ps4 slim today so i can replay tlou 2, would buy on PC but of course it's busted just like Part 1 was.

PairOfShuse

He said it about Spider Man 2 as well. I believe Gene did as well if I remember correctly. The whole trans thing is entirely forced in the game. If this was actually the apocalypse, the last thing anyone would be willing to entertain would be treat a girl like a boy. The only thing, and I highly doubt this is what they were saying with it, is that since she was going to be given to an older person who’s one of the elders would be that there is extremely large evidence that people who identify as trans had some type of sexual abuse towards them and then they start to say they are the opposite sex. I still find it extremely odd when people say they love the inclusion of it, like it’s this empowering thing. No matter what side of the fence you find yourself on with this topic either - you think it’s abuse to participate in someone else’s delusion OR - you’re celebrating someone who probably suffers from much higher levels of depression regardless of the whole movement of it being your “true self” Just sort of weird to celebrate. It just felt shoehorned in to the last of us in general with the story they are telling

Mike1core

Just finished it… pretty prettty good . Loved it

Chris Walsh

Been a subscriber since July 2020 joined right around TLOU2 release time. I don’t feel the need to comment on things very often but I was absolutely overjoyed to see this today. Just finished watching the entire video and wow you guys put in serious effort. TLOU is my favourite franchise of all time and I was lucky enough to have nothing spoiled for Part II. I thoroughly enjoyed the shows with Chris about the game but this was another level. Huge thank you to both yourself Colin and Dagan for this awesome surprise. LSM continues to just crush it in a daily basis and will continue to be my only Patreon sub for years to come! Thanks again 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Girth Brooks

Sir, you’re saying what every single person for all of history has known to be true up until the last 5 seconds and only in one part of the world that has lost it’s collective mind. We’re going to have to ask you to stop being *checks notes* HATEFUL AND TRANSPHOBIC!

Diddy’s Lube Guy

Right like if there’s no penises involved then nobody’s getting cucked so what is even the point.

Dead Tired

Please, please, please both of you watch Attack on Titan. It is a perfect companion piece. A profound story about what it means to be human. Please consider it.

Diddy’s Dong Quest

Joel and Tommy’s comfort around Abby and her friends immediately always struck me as a tiny bit odd. But of course, Joel has probably been mellowed out by his years of comfy civilization and he has a weakness for girls his daughter’s age.

Envydiel

I would have preferred the Abby section happen after they find Joel but before the Golf club and to be a lot more of the flashback part of her life and her tragedy. At the end of that sequence bring it to her in the room with Joel and have the player controlling her and make the player swing at Joel. If her story was told well enough, the player will feel she's justified and do it.

Adam Barnes

Didn’t think my work day is gonna be this good. #teamAbby

Johan92

Awesome job guys. Long form deep discussion on a specific game is what I always wanted your spoilercasts to be. Can’t wait for the next one.

Breno Bezerra Bluhm

One of the greatest games of all time. Can’t wait to listen to this fully

Breno Bezerra Bluhm

That wasn’t “all Bruce Straley” Neil was co-director and the lead writer just like with Uncharted 4, they were a duo but Bruce decided to venture into other things and Neil took the solo lead.

Breno Bezerra Bluhm

Can confirm, I also replayed for the first time this year and the pacing seemed much better.

pbsandwich_

just finished, amazing episode guys! definitely looking forward to the next SS+ on your guys' theories on where it could go. I feel it can go in a million directions but also only a couple ways to really make the series end on the high it deserves, assuming it ends on a trilogy which it should.

Benthegamer

This has been awesome to listen to, love the depth

Cai

Dagan, I’m sure someone has pointed it out, but Jeffrey Wright also does the voice for Isaac in the game!

The Comedian

The home base of the WLF is modeled after Lumen field, home of the Seahawks.

Mr. Scott If You're Nasty

Not an all time great. The first one was, but this was not. Fantastic visuals though.

DogMeat

As someone who also feels tlou and tlou 2 are top 3 all time games this was amazing. Thank you all for the in depth discussion. These games are made fun of fir Sony grabbing money off them so often but damn they are masterpieces. I can not lock down which one i prefer

Peter Jansen

What a marathon of a show. Well done fellas.

Breno Bezerra Bluhm

Disagree, Pt. II is better than the first one in absolutely everything. And as it being an all time great it might not be for you but it is for so many people that it’s always in those kind of lists and ofc won so many gotys. Art is subjective tho, that’s the beauty of it.

John

Isn’t *Tommy* the sniper in the marina section that kills Manny?

JR

Fantastic episode guys, TLOU2 definitely one of my favorite games, so thought provoking.

ExpectingRain

He is. I was trying to figure out why they were acting like they didn’t know that. I guess they must’ve not noticed somehow.

Guy Incognito

Just got to this part of the podcast (don’t worry, I listened well past it to make sure they didn’t correct themselves). I was so confused that after 3 play throughs, Colin didn’t realize that this is Tommy.

Guy Incognito

This Knockback is an all-timer for me. Appreciate the depth y’all provide!

KillnStrangers

Yep, I was like .. really Colin?? Lol

A Hind D

3 hours in; this is the IDEAL way to do a retrospective. Area by area. Excellent commentary boys

Ole Boonless

Dagan and Colin. Love this wildly long ep. But you guys missed it the whole time so let me say: The sniper at the pier is TOMMY. It’s not a seraphite or random person. it’s Tommy!

NUTSO JIMBO

It's kinda wild they didn't get that. Colin was probably stoned every time he played it but Dagen got no excuse lol

NUTSO JIMBO

This is probably my favourite LSM podcast ever. I savoured every second. Probably helps that it's my favourite game of all time.

Deemac

This is always how I read this. Joel has settled down into a more comfortable life in Jackson, after a couple decades of smuggling, killing and generally living on the edge. Sure they still did patrols etc, but it's not unrealistic to think he lost his edge a bit. Plus what age is he at this point, mid-late 50s? Combine that with a few years of taking it easier, and it completely adds up that he's softened a bit

Bi-curious Pigbaby

I think it's an objective truth that Bella Ramsey is a HORRIBLE ellie. I just can't. I can't.

John

I was just surprised because they actually spent quite a bit of time talking about the anonymous sniper and how there’s no payoff in terms of getting to take him out, and also never knowing what happens to him. Although to be fair, I’m pretty sure I missed this in my very first playthrough (out of 3 now). I think he has his raincoat hood up and then you just catch a glimpse of Tommy’s face as Abby is struggling with him before he goes over the rail

Devon!

I used to think TLOU & TLOU2 were one-and-done. You play, get emotionally wrecked, and move on. But 56 minutes into this breakdown, I’m hearing just how much I skipped by not exploring. Might wait for a long break to dive back in—not for the plot, but for the craft of the world.

Devon!

There was one or two episodes at the end there where she seemed to click into the character and tone pretty well, but for the most part, the casting didn't land for me either. Pedro as Joel kicked ass though.

Omar Rosa

I didn't think I could do it, but I listened to the whole show. I'm definitely replaying the game because of this pod.

Zachary

I literally thought they were intentionally misleading who it was because of Abby’s pov during that chapter when discussing this part. Abby did not know who it was but we do afterwards.

Ryan Taylor

Such a good listen, thank you! I always thought the Pasadena section felt odd, definitely felt like planned DLC that they decided to work into the main game.

Will Hahn

Crazy that Dagan didn’t know who the sniper was lol

Bogey

What’s even crazier is Colin didn’t know after playing through the game three times lol

Bogey

Pretty sure Abby recognized him after she threw him off the docks. She seemed visibly shaken that the guy she ran into in Jackson is here in Seattle.

Mr. Scott If You're Nasty

Yeah, for me, the game didn't evolve much from the first one. Inventory management was awful. Shooting still felt not right. Story was worse. Characters unlikable. Ellie's campaign was too much of the same and way too long. Did not like the switch to Abby, even though her campaign was funner.

Adam Barnes

Am I fucking crazy or was Tommy not the sniper that kills Manny?! Am I dreaming?!

Gino Fedele

You know it’s a good podcast when you get through the whole battery life of one AirPod and you gotta switch to the other

Josh Lee

Sure I’m not alone on this but listening to this episode makes me want to replay both titles again. If that rumoured double package releases on PS5 then Sony can have my money. Thanks Last Stand 🙄👍🏽🤣

Cory

And he claims the game was lost on us lmfao

Cory

Do they not know this in the podcast? I feel like this is easy research lol

Cory

Yeah wtf

Cory

Eh, I disagree. Druckmann pimped out a masterpiece of a game from 2013 for $$$. There was no need for a Part 2. There was no need for a show. No need for Part 1 remaster on PS5. No need for a remaster of Part 2 on PS5. Oh, and guess what's coming? Probably a double pack of both games to coincide with the launch of the show. Money, money, money.

Cory

You are

Cory

Should have been Dylan McDermott and Cailee Spaeny. (Or literally any Ellie cosplayer). The fact that we got anything less than this is depressing. My Hispanic friend even mentioned how it was low-key racist they casted Joel as a Hispanic dude because Joel works in construction. I said that ain't Joel that's Yoel.

Cory

Kinda lost a bit of respect for them. Kind of a lot of respect.

Cory

It's so obvious it's him after you find the interrogated corpse in the red hotel room. Like, extremely obvious

Jim60

Jeffrey Wright was Isaac in the game as well as series 2 of the show. And for the love of god, guys, the sniper is Tommy! 😁

Benthegamer

I had to come back for a second comment after finishing this. This was the best content I’ve ever consumed from LSM, it encapsulates the reason I’m a patreon, raw PASSION for games as an art form. If this episode had some sort of physical release I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Joseph Losinno

They also missed that Seth from the bar was actually the guy who lost his whole family and made it to Jackson. But still, halfway through and this is podcast is a masterpiece .

Philip Dunphy

Thanks for doing this again so I don’t have to. Great discussion!

Corkumk

Absolutely love this pod. I am about halfway through and this is exactly why I am and will continue to be a patron. Great work boys!

Vinsterx11

Easily one of the best podcast I’ve ever listened to.

HungryHungryHonsin

Dude the sniper is Tommy. How did they not pick up on that?

Leo Maniscalchi

How did they not realize that the sniper was Tommy lol

Chetsnooze

Im only a 1/4 into the game but I hate deena shes a terrible character and Abbey instantly became my favorite character from the begging of the game.

B-Nole5

I couldn't believe it lol. I knew something was up when one of them mentioned Manny getting shot by a random Scar early on in the episode

Tyler T

Best episode I have ever heard on LSM. The game is top five in my opinion, and deserves a breakdown of this magnitude. Thanks guys!

Girth Brooks

Did they really skip talking about the Abby sex scene? What cowards.

MJ SKA BOI

I hear you mention trying Grounded Mode. I know you love these games Colin but if you think you love them now please don’t sleep on Grounded Mode. It will change the way you look at and play TLOU for the better forever when it ‘clicks’ with you. That is not a clicker pun.

LiquidLink98

?? No they didn't idiot lmao

Damien Groome

Great podcast boys! I'm almost finished but I can't believe you both didn't realize Tommy was the sniper that was shooting at Abby and killed Manny. Made the moment even better when I played it.

Evan Cooper

I thought the sniper going towards the aquarium was Tommy? Maybe im misremembering because it’s been a few years since I played

DeadMail

I believe it is Tommy.

Wall bouncing in WW1

I know it’s serious but when that one Tunnel Snake guy Falcon punches that Asian kid into the garage door I kind of laughed.

Girth Brooks

Timestamp or it didn’t happen

Travis Martin

Pretty sure the sniper was Tommy. They never show his face

LiquidLink98

I completely disagree with Colin's take that Santa Barabara could have been an expansion or the beginning of part 3. It's an essential piece of the story that is required to tie it up and do it justice.

Girth Brooks

And there’s no need to call me an idiot. I make more money than your parents.

Dan Morgan

Took you 5 hours to come up with that lol

Simmo

I'd love for you to have listener submissions when discussing possible plotlines for part 3 if you do revisit this for sacred+. I have the final chapter all mapped out in my mind

mudder12

It’s a shame we never got some sort of Tommy dlc. Would’ve been cool to play through his days in Seattle

Quintin Propes

As a father of four who is also a stay at home dad, this was amazing. Helped a lot with the chores of laundry, dishes, yard work, etc. thank you both very much. Just finished it! Time for a replay very soon!

Clay Layne

Just epic. Loved this episode. Make all future knock back episodes this format and length!

Andrew Ceris

Am I crazy? I have an hour left while hearing this, but that sniper was Tommy yeah? And thats why there was a section where he taught Ellie how to snipe so that we know how adept he is at it

Andrew Ceris

also lest I forget, this was a fantastic conversation through and through

Michael

This was amazing and is a great format! I had problems with some of the story decisions in the game but it has a lot of depth and you both covered it magnificently

Colin Moriarty

This whole episode made me yearn for the series, and cry once again from the sheer impact of the narrative... Despite being told through a podcast format. Well done gents

Phil

It insists upon itself

The Ghost of James Soler

Yes, there’s also a moment where Abby realizes that it’s Tommy and that they’ve come for her. It seems the Moriarty Duo either overlooked this or didn’t find it interesting enough to bring up.

Big titty drinker

This is the type of spoiler cast a game this great deserves. I immediately dropped everything to listen to this

Matt Kuryloski

This probably my favorite podcast you’ve all done for spoilers, well done. Loved every minute!

Big titty drinker

One interesting thing I remember seeing the wolf graffiti and Boris story was that a lot of people joined the wolves out of fear and being forced. It makes playing through that part conflicting because Ellie’s murdering tons of innocent people who didn’t even really want to be in the wlf

Big titty drinker

Also I would say if you want the best experience possible you should play the entire game without listen mode. The games audio design is master class and if you play with headphones you can pick out where enemies are even if you can’t see them based on conversation and sound manipulations. Playing with no listen mode makes the gameplay special to me because it ties the gameplay to the audio design.

Manu Lasry

Listening this great podcast at 5am only to realize that they did not understand that the sniper was Tommy. Made me jump out of my bed

Chuck Rude

You made me look at this game slightly more positively. I still have my “gripes” with this very good game and some of the narrative moves really don’t work for me, but if think your discussion pushed me 5% more positively. P.S. you remarking Tommy teaching Ellie how to use long range rifles doesn’t go anywhere, and then totally missing that he’s very clearly the badass sniper in the marina, is pretty funny

Chuck Rude

They talk about the sniper at decent length, they just clearly didn’t realize it

Chuck Rude

They (the game) state clearly it’s Tommy

Chuck Rude

And them saying Tommy teaching Ellie to snipe just never leads to anything, funny stuff

Andrew Ceris

Yep I figured. All good though

Nuke

This might be the best Knockback yet, you guys are going to make me play this game again.

Big Devin Energy

Well. I was going to start a new recent game to play now that I got the Plat in P4G… but now I’m downloading TLOU2 remastered now to play again. 😂

Lars Serny

The Brothers Moriarty clearly recognize its cultural weight and emotional complexity, and they give it the space it deserves. If you’re a fan of the game—or just fascinated by how storytelling in games can push boundaries—this is essential listening.

Draven E.

Anyone else avoid killing dogs on there first play through? 🤷‍♂️

Devin (the dude abides) Torres

Loved loved loved this! I've only played through TLOU 2 once. It was far more emotionally impactfull of a game than any I had played through before. I've considered a second play through several times but I remember how this game made me feel. It definitely puts you through the ringer. Maybe after season 2 of the show I'll give it a go.

Marvinarviin

Listening to this, I realised that Dagan and Colin do not know Tommy was the sniper that was facing Abby & Manny. Dagan was talking like he definitely didn’t what happened to the sniper after falling into the water. When Colin had the chance to blow Dagans mind, he skip to the next part of the story. But yeah, it was Tommy that killed Manny lol

Ryan Harvey

This podcast was a total joy to listen to alongside my second ever play-through since its release in 2020. Loved all the analysis and breakdown. I totally disagree that Santa Barbara was unnecessary. It finally delivers on the showdown with Ellie and Abby and makes a point that they are both so pitiful at this point that my first time playing I just wanted it to stop. Felt really powerful that they turn the revenge plot to reveal the pitiful nature of what it does to you to get the revenge that you want.

Bobby Bowcut

I had a double take seeing this was 7 hours

YaBoyStevieJay

Lmao do you seriously think lesbians “scissor and rub their vaginas together”? You need to stop watching porn and meet some actual lesbians.

Paul Park

I wonder how many people made it through this entire podcast?

Jake Banks

7+ Hours? That was a bloody treat, mate!! I'm a landscaper & this got me through the whole day. Brilliant! Not sure why people complain. Just break up the podcast throughout the week.

Girth Brooks

What do they do then? Describe it to me.

Mike Fratello

Great job , 7 hours is wild 😂

Hozi

Thank you

HOW DO COLIN AND DAGAN NOT REALISE THE SNIPER IS TOMMY

Isaac Clayborne

You guys doing this spoilercast LITERALLY just pushed me to play this again. I was 3 hours into your guy’s spoilercast and I stopped it for now to play the game again. I started 2 days ago and I’m 7 hours in. I cannot believe how awesome this game is. It has its issues, but none of them will push me away from this masterpiece. I restarted your spoilercast to catch up to where I stopped in the game. I know people that won’t dare touch tlou part 2 because they heard of the trans character and the fact that they decided kill Joel. I never had the game spoiled for me, but tbh I was so at peace with the fact that they had to kill Joel. It’s the ultimate motivator in such a cruel world to push a greater story and it forces the franchise to move on in a way. Can’t wait to hear the first 3 hours of your spoilercast again and the rest of it. Thanks guys. Keep it up!

AroundTheBrend

I always interpreted Ellie sparing Abby at the end as her realizing that her hatred is more towards herself rather than Abby, because she didn’t make up with Joel soon enough. Ellie can’t forgive herself for that and that builds this hatred that ultimately becomes greater than her hatred for Abby.

A

Just had to check the comments after listening to this part. It's been a while since I played the game but I vividly recall the sniper being Tommy...

Angel M Rivera

You guys didn't mention this but the stadium is Lumen Field where the Seattle Seahawks play. Pretty cool

PAPZY

I don’t know where to start… Ever since my first time playing Uncharted I fell I love with action adventure / story games and Naughty dog. My hype for TLOU was huge and it really lived up to my expectations. TLOU2 is probably my favorite game ever and I share the same verdict as Collin, it’s a masterpiece. I’ve watched and listened to everything about the game. But this episode just made me so happy and my favorite of them all. I love listening to Collin talk about TLOU and now to listen when he shares it with his brother is just amazing. And now hearing how much Dagan enjoyed it and hear him speak about it is double the enjoyment for me. Thanks guys for spending that many hours to speak about this game. Sorry for the long comment. Keep being awesome and I’ll keep listening and supporting!

Isaac Clayborne

I literally just beat this game for a second time. The credits are rolling RIGHT.NOW. This game ABSOLUTELY needs a third installment in the franchise. Omg… the game was a tad too long. And I had issues with it. But GOT DAAAAMN did it hit and slap in so many areas. They are making a third game. I know it. I am more angry now than ever that they canceled the factions online. But oh well. I highly encourage anyone that is thinking about playing it again to absolutely pull the trigger and do it already. This play through took me approximately 28 hours. I can’t wait to see what they do next.

Robbie Agnew

Great convo. Really dug this.

Michael Ryan

Well done lads. Amazing conversation. Re grouted my bathroom while listening! Looking forward to the SS+ on PIII ideas.

Cole Minder

Its been said plenty of times but its genuinely fucking wild that they didn’t know the sniper was Tommy

Ben Innes

This is fantastic, making me want to play it again when I’ve finished Claire Obscur. Became a Patreon just to listen to this

Christopher Puckett

"I'm Tommy, this is my brother Joel." I think that's about all the proof Abby needed to blow his knee cap off.

Christopher Puckett

I'm sorry but it's unbelievably baffling to me that neither Colin or Dagan realize that the sniper was Tommy considering it's an obvious reveal in the fight that it's Tommy. It's especially egregious on Colins part. Considering it's his third playthrough of the game.

Austin Killian

Finally played through the game for the first time just to listen to this duo talk about it. Yes, I’m also surprised they didn’t deduce the sniper was Tommy. You know what’s funny though, the game bugged out on that part for me and didn’t trigger the next section of Tommy running away, so I was able to walk right up to him without getting hit at one part. So I knew for a fact it was Tommy haha. I wish I would’ve screen recorded it.

They Now Call Me UNC.

Imagine if that Joel and Abby scene had the slow burn and tension of a Tarantino scene. I agree, they could’ve spent a little more time making it even more memorable.
