Please welcome Christian Polson-Brown to Sacred+. Christian is the marketing manager of the Australia-based GeForce NOW partner Pentanet, and I (Colin) invited him to the show to discuss his industry and his craft. Here's the thing: I'm not so sure I believe in cloud gaming as the be-all/end-all future for gaming. But as Christian tells it, that's not really what the purveyors of this new way of play are attempting. Rather, the use of cloud gaming could be supplemental, situational, or based simply on convenience, and while it may not take out your console or PC, it'll almost certainly become an ever-larger option that sits alongside them. From subscriptions versus a la carte purchasing and where fallen competitors like OnLive and Stadia got it wrong, to 'the speed of light problem' and the potential ecological damage of gaming via the cloud, we discuss a whole lot in our truncated hour-long conversation. Please enjoy.

Colin, you can't call yourself an environmentalist or "green" if you buy a bottle of Smart Water every 3 days. For the love of god, buy a hydro flask or something.

I used Stadia as my only gaming outlet via Chromcast and the Stadia Controller. I played 130 hours of Cyberpunk and NEVER had a big issue. This was almost 4 years ago or more. It was amazing. They genuinely had it figured out. They key was having the Controller connected to the Stadia server independently via wifi. I've tried xbox many times since and it's bad. The lag is terrible and it's borderline unplayable. Cloud gaming is possible NOW. It needs that Stadia setup. It's so frustrating hearing people over and over again saying "it's not possible yet". My internet was good. Not great. It's was good. I played it while other devices in my home were also on the internet. That little tiny lag from the Bluetooth controller to the device combined with the device to the server is what causes an unmistakable small but annoying lag. The Portal might work since the controller IS the device connecting to the server.

Excited to listen to this one later. Gonna be a completely different world in 10 years.

solid chat - one of the huge talking points i didn't think of previously was bringing gaming to under served markets who might have issues with importing and the like. the folks in central and south america always note that it's a pain point for them!
