Moriarty x Jaffe: New Year, Same Us | Sacred Symbols+, Episode 498

Please welcome storied game designer David Jaffe to Sacred+ for his first appearance of 2026. Today, I (Colin) invited him onto the show to discuss a bunch of topics in our trademark freeform style, with lots of tangents and interruptions: How we manage the endless choice of 'what game to play next,' the way the gaming industry has been morphed and altered by social media and Discord, what it's like helping to create God of War and Twisted Metal only to see them take on a life of their own, if there's any 'fixing' Call of Duty, the trouble (or lack thereof) with AI art, and more. Please enjoy, and have a great weekend.

We need the Jaffe radio show!

Ryan Harvey

Live jaffee show a couple times a week would be so great

Cyanide1980

Do the live jaffe news show pleeeeease

Supes

Joining the chorus to say I think a Jaffe stream would be great. Even just a once-a-week thing where it's Jaffles and a rotating guest would be cool, and I love the idea of it being a morning zoo show since his chaotic energy would be a perfect fit.

Tanner Brant

I really missed Jaffe/LSM the last few months I think the live show idea sounds great!

Zach Gauthier

Jaffels is The Definition of an NPC & stupid he speaks of.

Brent Mahaffey

Two hours of Moriarty x Jaffe? LOVE IT

Andrew roman

Hell yeah! New episode with Colin and Jaffe - looking forward to checking it out

Clay Layne

I respect Colin and Jaffa’s relationship as friends but I can not listen to Jaffe at all. A guy that’s blinded by his base. I’ll respectfully skip any episodes he’s involved in.

Drew B

Time to lock in Jaffe and lockmort for that morning show

Even though I kinda like robots, I wholeheartedly agree with Colin's view on creativity. I feel only a soul can be inspired, and the creative spark is a divine thing, which I feel, comes from elsewhere and not from inside myself. It is...“breathed into”.

Ashley White

As an independent filmmaker who has been pursuing a career in writing and directing for over 20 years, I wholeheartedly agree with almost all of Jaffe’s perspective on AI in the creative process and I’m glad he shares what he thinks in a world that is very anti AI. Of course I don’t want it to completely replace creativity either, but it really is just a tool and it can help to achieve a creative vision at the end of the day. I think people get too caught up in the illusive idea of ‘the artist’ in the creative process, and I say that as an artist 🤣 Anyway just my two cents ☺️ Appreciate you both and your different perspectives, love the conversation as always! Colin I also looked up your appearance on JT Smash or whatever he’s called - had never heard of him before - and that gave me quite a few good laughs! 😂

Jay

Finally he show's up again!!! been a while since Jaffe was on

thesonofit

Did GPT write this response?

Collin Love

So good to have Jaffe back on

DogMeat

I would honestly bump up my 5 to 10 dollars if yall did that morning show

Matthew Major

Let the jaffee show happen please!!!

Ashley White

Haha GPT was not involved in the writing of this prompt 😂

I agree in the sense that certain creative ideas and inspirations can feel like they ‘download to you’ from somewhere else, but we don’t truly know what the nature of that is, it could still just be coming from a subconscious part of ourselves. I also think that true inspiration is only a small part of the creative process and a large part of it is hard work and constantly challenging and throwing out bad ideas, refining and refining until the ultimate end result comes together. AI can be used as just another tool in that process. In my experience using generative AI in film, it has enhanced creativity and ultimately expanded what we can achieve on a low budget. Do I enjoy using it? Not particularly 😂 it’s a lot of hard work and time wrestling with the technology trying to get the right piece and then there’s still a lot of creativity involved in editing that into a sequence, like there would be with any piece of footage. But has it allowed us to get closer to our overall creative vision for the film in a way we couldn’t before? Absolutely!

Nathan Barnard

I would appreciate chapters for Jaffe episodes. I like him on games but hearing spew 2012 liberal talking points is boring and stale.

Jonathan Gould

How much extra do I need to pay for the Jaffe show?! Colin and Jaffe live is such a no brainer. Jaffe’s outlandish nature is the perfect yin and yang the way Colin and Greg live was. He obviously wants it and respects the hell out of the company.

Eliott Giberson

Please talk about politics Colin. Talk about it with Jaffe or by yourself, I’ll take it in any form. Your takes were always interesting and the world of politics is, at the very least, extremely interesting and ripe for conversation. I get not wanting to alienate anybody and you want this to be an escape from politics for people but a clearly titled political discussion one off would be much appreciated. I’ve been listening to you since early beyond and I think for a lot of us you expressing your political thoughts was a big part of the special mix of things that drew many of us to listen to you in the first place.

Chase Carter

I'm not sure if Jaffe mispoke or misremembered but George Carlin said, "I love people as I meet them one by one. People are just wonderful as individuals. You see the whole universe in their eyes if you look carefully. But as soon as they begin to group, as soon as they begin to clot, when there are five of them or ten or even groups of smallest two, they begin to change, they sacrifice the beauty of the individual for the sake of the group." Which goes against the idea of Socialism, Communism and Nationalism. We all agree Smash is a moron and shouldn't be taken seriously. Ya'll have a great day and I loved the episode.

Michael Welter

They really dont talk about all the shit going on? It seems disingenuous at this point because Jaffe definitely would've brought it up. And Colin used to mention crazy happenings going on in the world on the shows and now he doesnt at all. Dont upset anyone its good for the wallet.

Michael Welter

Come on man. You could very much argue youre blinded by your base too. That fact that you cant recognize that says it all. They are clearly covering up the Epstein files. Remember when Trump said he would release them before he was elected. Now its cover up after cover up. And you have to be blind or willfully ignorant to not see it.

Michael Welter

Yes for the love of god get Jaffe on more. And dear God Colin youre silencing Jaffe now? You were happy to occasionally mention politics on shows before. Did you decide to stop it when Chris got in trouble? If the audience cant handle listening to someone that they disagree with maybe this audience isnt as tolerant as you like to say.

Clay Layne

I appreciate the perspective, but to be clear, I am in no way blinded by any political base. My interest is in what the public record actually shows. While there have been campaign statements about releasing the Epstein files, the reality is that most of these documents are held by federal courts and the DOJ, which have strict legal protocols for unsealing information, usually to protect grand jury secrecy or innocent third parties. We did see hundreds of pages unsealed in early 2024 through the court system, but the process is often bogged down by legal red tape rather than just a single person's decision. It’s a complex legal mess that goes beyond just one administration. Game on Man.

Marvel Guides

Please let Jaffe do the type of news/radio show he described! Even something like just Tues and Thurs to start would be awesome!

Zero Karisma

I think Jaffe may be on to something with his radio show idea. I’d be interested!

Gabriel Prégent Terborch

It's crazy seeing the people calling everyone snowflakes turn out to be the most sensitive snowflakes ever.

Cory Taylor

I'm not against having Jaffe host a live show on LSM. However, I do think he'd need another LSM member on to keep him reigned in. He's great when he's on Sacred+, but his own content can be very hard to watch. I would not be a fan of the call-in format either. The fans he has call in on his streams are some of the most insufferable people I've ever heard speak, and they love the sound of their own voice. Something like the original Colin and Greg Live streams would be great. Maybe Jaffe and a rotating LSM member. No call ins! Lol.

Braxton Wilkerson

I think a once or twice a week show with Jaffe would be awesome

Justin McCoy

I finally got a Patreon membership just to listen to this conversation. Miss the regular Jaffe appearances.

Devon!

"Starts Feb 15" Ya'll blew that launch date out of the water! We got a new Sacred Live Show before we got GTA6
