Reporting from this past week indicates Sony is abandoning its push to publish more games on PC, a reversal from a six-ish year old initiative that frankly bore little fruit outside of Helldivers 2. And let's be real: Though we were vocal advocates of this approach on the show, a vast majority of the PlayStation fanbase was decidedly not on board. Sony has apparently determined that it's a waste of time to further pursue this path, and that doing so could ultimately eat into their console ecosystem in unacceptable ways. Thus, it's time for many of you to celebrate, as we consider the reasons behind this dramatic course-correction. Ser Cumsock, I would say PS perfectly executed a bad idea. They wanted to put out 10 GaaS' and hope one of them would stick. I think building a team from the ground up for a single, focused GaaS would have been a better idea

I am also pretty disappointed that Cory is working on a god of war spin off. That studio is working on nothing but god of war for like what, over another decade now. I was hoping for a bit of a break after Valhalla and OG trilogy remakes is cool, but could have been done by Bluepoint as you guys previously mentioned. I’m feeling pretty bummed out by the future of PlayStation studios releases aside from maybe a couple.

lol at the idea GOW R was not needed after a literal cliff hanger ending. This is one of those areas where this show really disconnects from reality. Sequels sell guys and by and large the public doesn’t care about devs constantly doing something new. Most people want more of what they like just better. This idea that a dev is gonna make one hit game or two in a series and then move on is a silly one and if that is your expectation you will be constantly disappointed.

I agree with Dustin about RE9. It’s a good game but I see people talking like it’s the second coming and I just don’t get it. Honestly when I was playing it, I just kinda felt like something was missing. Like I said, not a bad game. I also find it really odd that Leon is acting like he hasn’t done anything to help and focuses on his RE2 past while seemingly just ignoring everything he did in RE4 and 6.

I do put some weight behind the Detective Seeds BluePoint reporting and feel Jason left some of the earliest context out. Even when Schrier was refuting some of what Seeds said about Bloodborne prior to his reporting, he specified that a Bloodborne live service wasn’t pitched and that’s not even what this Detective guy said. From what I got between the 2, somewhere in the early years after being acquired, BP actually did pitch remakes and they were all shot down. Various projects, no takers. As you know, pitches are hard and take time/money, so from there, Bluepoint elected to play ball with PlayStation’s live service initiative and pitch that, which was greenlit Again, it does not make sense that a studio built for, acquired for, you built a relationship with and are great at doing remakes, who HYPED up/teased multiple Sony IP remakes in a legendary tweet, suddenly pivots of their own volition to doing a God of War live service game. It doesn’t compute and even if that came about on their own after failed pitches, PlayStation management should have been the adults and said no, you’re doing the GOW remakes This is just a complete failure on the part of PlayStation. How in the fuck do you acquire this great remake studio with whom you have an amazing relationship and don’t have an idea what you want them to do? Fire Hermen Hulst, the first party management do not know what the fuck they're doing.

Their point is sound though about Barlog. It makes no sense that rather than direct Ragnarok he went and did this. You can tell the change in director hurt the game as so many plot threads, the Faye one as well, were just omitted entirely. There’s so much unexplained in Ragnarok and the push to make it 2 games, down from the initially planned 3 felt rushed.

Ragnarok obviously was going to be a direct follow up to GOW 2018, built on the same mechanics and systems, in the same world but built up more etc. etc. But while this new game is still in the "God of War Universe", all leaks point to it being a very different game stylistically, combat etc. It's a game Barlog has been wanting to make since GoW 2018, so there must be something to it that made him focus in on this rather than doing Ragnarok This is why leaks can be so harmful - seems like everyone (certainly the guys here) is just imagining another GoW 2018/Ragnarok style game, expect you play as Faye instead of Kratos. I don't think it's going to be as simple as that, and it could be something very different to that and be distinctive enough to set itself apart. Imo we should wait until we actually see the reveal trailer and see what the game actually is, before declaring it a huge waste of time and wondering why on earth Barlog is doing it.... Maybe that's just me though

I could also mention Saros and Wolverine this year, but clearly you'll dismiss those as a "sequel" (definitely not a direct one) and a licensed IP. I see what they were going for with the 2 characters and Grace's sections aren't bad. I just must prefer more action oriented survival horror. If this was a pure Leon game it would be 10/10 for me. I really just want a full sequel to RE4 Remake in terms of combat and gameplay. We kinda got that in RE9 but it left me wanting more.

It's wild that most of the Playstation community viewed Bluepoint as a premier remake studio, but Bluepoint didn't view itself that way. As soon as they started pitching original IP, someone should have stepped in and said NO. Also... WHY DIDN'T THEY PITCH A REMAKE OF ICO! Sure, it's more niche and isn't as highly revered as SOTC, but you already had the reworked art engine for that universe up & running. It would have been a slam dunk and gained even more goodwill with the Playstation fanbase. So obvious.

True fans of God of War will know that Cory wanted to and excited to tell the story of Faye. He has brought this up in interviews after the release of 2018. Also, yall seem to forget that the axe was originally Faye’s and she went head to head with Thor (who Kratos lost to initially).

I don’t believe Jason’s reporting paints the entire picture at all and it’s pretty clear they had remakes in mind and likely pitched some prior to, or during the Ragnarok support. All were shut down and they were forced to pitch projects that played ball with the Live Service initiative from on high. Regardless, PlayStation owned them and bought them as a remake studio. Even if they had delusions of their own, fresh IP, it was up to management to say nah, you’re doing the remakes we want. The fact PlayStation mismanaged them this bad then decided to do a God of War Greek remake trilogy after announcing Bluepoints closure is just more wood for the “Hermen Hulst” needs to be fired, fire.
