Things are quiet recently. It feels like we're waiting for something to pop-off; some new announcements, or tantalizing rumors, or whatever. We have a little of that this week, though -- perhaps as usual -- it's good news mixed-up with a few questionable items. Let's start with PS5 sales, which picked up substantially in the days leading up to the hardware's global price increase. We then move into the surreptitious release of once-hidden Grand Theft Auto Online numbers, which shows a game still making around $10 million a week, with around two-thirds of its playerbase on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. Then, we get into first and second party fare: More details about the unannounced (but heavily rumored) Faye-driven God of War spinoff, casting and performance capture details for Hideo Kojima's PHYSINT, word of a Bloodborne animated feature in the works, and a Metal Gear Solid film, too, both being steered by Sony Pictures. And did Insomniac's Spider-Man 3 get leaked, too? Inquiries from the audience help us round things out, as always. Why is PlayStation 2 Colin's least-favorite Sony console? Is there room for the point-and-click adventure genre in modern gaming? Will Xbox really go back down the path of exclusivity? Can we act as an effective billboard for a listener's pregnancy announcement?

It's a shame how leaks spoil so much nowadays, so much has been talked about the Faye game already and it seems the guys have their minds made up already - they already are fed up of God of War anyway (as we hear seemingly every week lol), and Chris in particular seems primed to hate this game already. I dunno, I just think it's unfairly to judge a game so much before it's even been shown off in any way. Sure the few details leaked sound weird, but you could apply that to alot of games. Hell, GOW 2018 out of context sounds real weird - Kratos now being a serious dad of a moody kid, on a quest to spread his wife's ashes... That sounds crazy coming off the previous God of War games. Cory Barlog has given us little reason to doubt him, and if this is the game he's been working on for years, then I have confidence it will be great. It sounds like it'll have a different gameplay style, a different character with new moveset etc, new settings.. Sure it's in the God of War universe but I doubt it will be like 2018/Ragnarok except Faye instead of Kratos. I do get wanting something*completely* new from SSM, but let's at least see the game first imo

In reference to Colin saying Jacksepticeye is an unfortunate name: I totally agree. I've been aware of Jacksepticeye for well over a decade. I don't really know anything about him other than he's a huge gaming YouTuber but I have never once clicked on one of his videos, specifically because the name 'Jacksepticeye' skeeves me out. It almost makes me irrationally angry. Like why would you choose that name for yourself? He's obviously done well for himself so what do I know. But that name just ain't it dawg.

Chris, to respond to your statement: yes, when you have a kid, you want to kill yourself, and yes, you practically have to give up every part of your life, at least to the extent that existed prior to your child. However, it gets better, and having a kid and not expecting to sacrifice anything is crazy. The only people I’ve seen maintain many hours a day gaming with a kid is if they are piece of shit dads who make the mom do everything or they sacrifice their sleep to play games while the baby is sleeping. Also, a point of advice based off the way Chris/Colin talk about their free time: don’t have kids unless you are ready to give that up. Based off how you talk, you are not ready for that, and that’s okay. The important part is you know that. My daughter is 4 years old and I get about 2 hours a night on the weekend to play games. I have all life to play games though, limited time to be a dad to a young child. Some unsolicited advice.

If one was truly a fan of bloodborne they'd know a movie is a really stupid idea none of bloodbornes strengths translate to a linear non interactive medium. There is no film that can ever exist that could capture what it feels like to play a from software soulslike. The movie is gonna suck any true fan of the game knows this.

As a father of two, I can say that gaming was my only hobby that could continue after my kids were born. You’re home, can pause, play in short sessions, etc…my golf game went to shit though.

Are the first Jak and Sly games widely regarded as the best in their series? I personally prefer Sly 1 to the others but anectdotally it seems most folks hold sly 2 and jak 2 as the favorites

I think most people prefer Sly 2/3. Jak is all over the place. 3 is my personal favorite as it was a nice middle ground in terms of tone between 1 and 2.

Right now I have a 6 month old and am on paternity leave as my wife went back to work. I actually have had more time these three weeks to game than basically my adult life. Baby hasn't figured out crib naps, so she sleeps in my arm while I play. She also gets lots of play time and when she's awake I'm not gaming but there are ways and particularly with a baby once out of that "I have no idea what I'm doing 4 week stretch" it is feasible, mostly while they sleep (great time for Switch, Portal, Steamdeck in particular)

Yes. Generative AI has absolutely no place in creative endeavors. Full stop. They weren’t supposed to be there and were removed after consumers brought it to their attention, right. But why were they there in first place? As a “placeholder”? You can use stock photos as placeholders. Hell, even just leave it as an unfinished texture that says “[IMAGE]”. They didn’t do that though. They went out of their way to deliberately use gen AI, then when they were called out they said it “didn’t reflect their values as a studio”. Sure it didn’t. Why have the tech on hand to make placeholders if you don’t believe in it in the first place? Use AI as a tool to get a job done, like compressing files, managing data, etc. not as a shortcut to try and convince people you’re actually a game developer.

Please no. I play a Spider-Man game because I want to play as Spider-Man. And by that I mean Peter Parker. Not Miles Morales and not Silk whoever that is. Spider-Man 3 should be a purely Peter game, if it truly is the last Spider-Man game from Insomniac. I wouldn't be opposed to a Miles Morales 2, but Peter needs to be the focus of 3. There will be a massive fan backlash if he's not the main character.

I just think it would be really weird to have the finale of a Spider-Man trilogy not be about Peter Parker. People love Peter. People want to play as Peter. I like Miles (although I do think the voice acting for Miles is absolutely terrible), but in his own spin off games. If they introduce Silk, it should be in a Miles Morales 2 game.

Unfortunately I think you're right, it will be 3 playable characters. So even less focus on Peter than in 2. After having 2 playable characters in Spider-Man 2, they will feel the need to one up themselves and have 3 characters for Spider-Man 3. But sometimes less is more. Unfortunately devs often don't understand that.

Yep, I absolutely love it. Hate the crashes, so I’ve paused it for now, 35 hours in. It’s the most immersive game. But you have to fully commit mentally to it. ‘Be’ in the world. It’s slow, can be repetitive, but that’s where imagination comes in. We’re in space, exotic planets, so you gotta lose yourself from the world we live in.

In the defense of Fire Emblem characters in Smash, half of them are clones of other characters (e.g. Marth/Lucina, Roy/Chrom) and it's widely speculated that Byleth was initially planned to be a Monster Hunter, but the plans fell through, and the moveset was adapted. It's a lot, but not as bad as it seems. Lol

Agreed, that first year when they are sleeping 18 hours a day you get a lot of gaming time. I platinumed Elden Ring in the first 3 months my daughter was born. In toddler hood after they drop their nap it’s hard to maintain that. I heard you get to reclaim your pre-baby routines once they reach around 7-8 years old.

I see Colin’s view point of Starfield, but 100 hours in the game is different to me. I think it’s a ton of fun and feels alive. I love all the things you can do and I spend hours every day just playing. Starfield feels like a continuation of Fallout 76 vanilla. Cool world and interesting things to explore and discover just whether you want to dedicate the time. For most, it’s trash, for myself, it’s exactly what I wanted. 76 was a special experience and so is Starfield.

To Chris’ point on arena names, the arena here to me will always be the American Airlines arena because I’m just so used to the 2K announcers saying it for so many years, even before I lived in Florida. Starfield isn’t bad but somebody putting it in their top 10 is WILD to me. Also, weird thing with SF is the best part is after beating the main quest but then the game doesn’t do much with it.
