The Thin Line Between Entertainment and War | Sacred Symbols, Episode 408

A duo of interesting stories quietly circulated around the PlayStation ecosystem over the last few days, with potential clarity shone on some lingering, years-long issues. For starters, beloved ex-Sony exec Shuhei Yoshida recently spoke at a gaming event in Australia, where he revealed more precious information on his departure from first party, noting that ex-CEO Jim Ryan ultimately fired him from his role for not acceding to his demands. Meanwhile, an ex-Naughty Dog lighting artist seemed to spill the beans on some of the behind-the-scenes drama surrounding Uncharted 4, which -- as you may recall -- was a tortured project. But no one knew things were as bad as they seemingly were, until now. Plus: Age verification is coming to PlayStation hardware near you in the UK and elsewhere, Assassin's Creed IV's remake has finally officially emerged, SEGA's classic Ecco the Dolphin franchise is being revived, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! With Kotaku making aggressive new hires while touting increasing traffic, can the once-storied media brand be saved? Do any of us mess with motion aiming on DualSense? Is there a feeling of melancholy when deleting an old online friend from your PSN list? Would you believe that Colin never even one time suffered from "imposter syndrome"? A new episode of Sacred Symbols: A PlayStation Podcast launches each Friday morning. I feel like i’m getting rage-baited — I’m glad that parent is having a good experience with their kid, but not all kids are the same. I have two and they’re completely different. Doesn’t always mean you’re a bad parent. Don’t act like the new Saudi Prince Bill Bur is some fountain of wisdom

Dustin, I got you with the Buccee's puck, HMU. I've got one in my city.

American eyes, American eyes, view the world through American eyes 🤘

British here. I did the age verification via the app, it scanned my face, deleted the pic and that was it.

McDonald's has not been the same since the 50s. Maybe the menu has been same but it does not taste as good as it did 10 to 15 years ago.

that write-in was completely fucking retarded lol. My sister has two daughters, first one was easy mode, second one was a total nightmare as a baby/toddler. Kids come out different, and a challenging child doesn't mean that the parents are bad. I get that there's "iPad kids" where the parents don't want to really take the time to raise them right, but, like, c'mon, man.

Completely rage baited. I have two boys, 1 and 3 years old. That patron lives in their own world. Kids are very different at different ages. I have a masters degree in psychology and took classes on childhood development. Nature plays a much greater part in development than given credit for. You can parent two kids exactly the same and they will react completely different. There are lots of studies on twins to prove that. I would also like to hear what his wife thinks about how much time he has to game, and how easy it is to be a parent to a small child. He may not be sharing the workload equally.

I think the director was Herman, which why he rose to such a high position in the company. He saved a franchise. Would a mediocre or even poor UC4 killed the franchise, probably not. But would they have been able to release a movie based on the IP and be working on a successor starring his daughter (allegedly)? Probably not. It would certainly boost his legacy, if even a little bit. Sometimes people just have it for a few years and it's gone. Maybe that's Herm.

Also one of us is understanding this wrong. The quote said the suits ignored the naysayer and applied force by threatening to pull funding, and that the naysayer took over. Meaning the naysayer was the person criticizing the critique for being too harsh. I thought they said the critique came from another game director, I assumed that meant anyone from the whole company. Maybe I'm wrong. If so, boy did I take the long route.

The Turok Dinosaur Hunter manual taught me how to spell "knife" at a young age. My 1st grade teacher was impressed. She never knew the source of my knowledge. Wonder if I should come clean about it.
