it pains me hearing colin just dump all over starfield. i've played it for like 120 hours. i've played every bethesda game to completion since morrowind first came out, and i think starfield is my favorite "modern" bethesda game. it hit everything that excites me, and the nasa crap really sucked me in. great stuff. i do think though that it may be how he approaches games because when invited it up i immediately just started gold lining all the factions, building up my ship, then once all that was complete stated the main quest. if someone approaches me and they need help, they get my middle finger cause i have more important matters to attend to :)

I'm currently over 150 hours into Starfield, I like it. It has that 'something' that keeps me playing. But I don't disagree with many of the criticisms. I think there are two big problems with the game, expectation and technical design. Expectation - people wanted Fallout in space. They thought they were getting Fallout in space. Starfield is NOT Fallout in space, Bethesda built a space exploration game and as a result much of those exploration reward systems from Fallout are just missing. There are hours of nothing in this game due to the empty nature of its exploration - this comes as a direct consequence of Bethesda wanting this to be a space exploration game with Bethesda RPG elements. This is not a problem in Fallout, Skyrim, Oblivion etc - you were never bored in those worlds. Secondly with technical design - Bethesda are hamstrung by their own engine. They've tried but you can see the skeleton of those earlier games here and the restrictions it places on the experience. I'm playing Starfield but the gameplay is very much grounded in the Skyrim, Oblivion, Fallout experiences of yore. That dissonance that exists between what Bethesda wants me to experience and what they've built is really off putting. Space should feel free flowing, advanced, technologically superior, without restriction - and though these games have got better, it still feels like I'm playing a game from two decades ago, a dated experience that is dictated to us because of a fundamentally outdated engine.

The problem is it’s just another Bethesda game. The same issues and flaws are still there
