Please welcome Summon Sign host Brad Ellis and friend-of-the-show Moore's Law Is Dead back to Sacred+. Today, I (Colin) asked these fine gentlemen to join me for an in-depth conversation all about a piece of hardware that hasn't even been officially announced yet: PlayStation 6. Most (though certainly not all) signs point to a late 2027 launch for Sony's next-gen offering, but since all we know about it come from some precious leaks alongside tons of assumptions, I figured the three of us could breakdown the coming madness into six individual buckets. When and how should PlayStation 6 be revealed? When should it launch? How much should the console and handheld iterations of the hardware cost? What kind of first and second party support should be expected? What three features will help differentiate PS6 from PS5? And speaking of PlayStation 5, what should be done with the hardware once its successor is in the wild? As you can see, there's plenty to get into. There's no time to waste! Please enjoy.

VanB-Boy 4 life

I’m all in on getting a PS6 and very excited for it. New console launches always excite me. It’s become very clear with recent games, that the base PS5 is struggling.

I still think they will have a disc drive version of the machine. There are still enough of us I hope lol

Cousin Kenny

Every console gen ive waited for a game. It was a Metal Gear, then it was Horizon 2. So launch titles will convert me to new hardware.

BigDumbStupidIdiot

The PS5 needs to get stinky before a lot of the audience is ready for PS6

Fun episode

I think it'll be like the Pro where the console is just digital, but they sell a disc drive separate - this would allow them to keep the console price down, but also serve the physical audience. Unlike Xbox, Playstation has a huge audience in many developing countries where the internet speeds aren't great and they still rely on physical media, so there's no way they're just abandoning physical games yet

I bought my PS5 at launch and resisted upgrading to the Pro so I'm ready to go on PS6 launch day (hoping for November 2027). The only question for me is if I buy the handheld at launch as well. Or maybe only buy the handheld at launch and continue using my PS5 under the TV. My budget for hardware and games is £750. I'm not willing to spend more than that at launch unless they have an exclusive at launch that I'm desperate to play.

Yikes, tom taking a jab at Tesla was a bit…awkward…normally I’m lockstep with him

The standard PS6 color should be that of the matte "Sterling Silver" version of the PS5. That'll look beautiful out of the gate, and the black plates will sell.

Philip Dunphy

Love when Tom visits Sacred Symbols.

Jason Bolla

PS6 with a new Uncharted (reboot to abandon the numbers to invite new players) at launch would be great. Guess it could just be a remake of 1 if they want to go the Demon's Souls route.

Loved this episode. Need more of this please

I just sold my PS5 to get a PS5 Pro right before they raise the prices. I will not be getting a PS6 at launch if they release in the next two years. I wanted a PS5 day one because my PS4 was chugging along barely I have not had any issues like I did with the PS4 with the PS5, especially the pro.

No talk about VR bit of a shame. I hope ps6 has psvr2 support at minimum. And perhaps psvr 3 or 2.5 that is wireless like the steam frame.

Save The Game Media

I have a PS5, Switch 2 and a PC. I primarily play on PC. I hope PS6 has no exclusives so I don’t have to upgrade personally.

Trev

Surely once the ps6 launches, Sony stops selling ps5. Ps6 sells at the same price.

Ryan

I know tom knows infinitely more than me but so often I cannot believe wtf he’s talking about 😭 I just hope he’s right lol

Mr. Scott If You're Nasty

I have no idea how PlayStation makes a compelling console to consumers and prices it hundreds of dollars lower than the pro? I think this was pie in the sky if Sony isn't willing to subsidize, which they haven't been willing to do lately. Handheld has a natural appeal because it's size and portability, but I don't see how they make a new console that does newer better faster things without it costing at least at the same price point of the pro or at least what it dropped as.

Devon!

Great episode

Nintendo is fine.
