Colin, It's not just you who takes much longer to play games or get a Platinum than many of the guides say. I often take much longer too, because as you say, I like to stop and smell the roses in games, explore every corner, etc.

Also, as OCD as you are about game play time, instead of trusting the in-game clocks, set a stopwatch on your phone that you can pause and resume as you are playing games. I do that myself, it's less hassle than starting over on a 5+ hour save file if you think your game clock is messed up.

FFXVI has no party to control, no cities to explore, no dungeons to explore or find, weapon and armour stats are meaningless, there's no elemental system, no magic system, practically no RPG systems, no optional areas to explore and has no actual sense of exploration, there's only one combo string the entire game and the rest of the combat is just using an ability on cool down with no other thought than is it ready to use? FFXVI has no mini games, no vehicles to pilot/control, which hurts the sense of scale of the world and the journey. There's nothing to find or do outside the main story and every single sidequest in XVI is a terrible generic MMO fetch quest. The majority of the story happen offscreen or between timeskips that are never explained in dialogue or cutscenes and the DLC was just cut content they made you pay for. There is no explanation for what Clive did in the timeskips, Joshua's actions and how he survived Phoenix Gate, and what happened to Jill, let alone the backstories of characters like Anabella, Hugo, Benedikta, or Barnabas being completely non-existent in any cutscene or dialogue. Ultima is the most nothing villain we've ever had, an actual void of any character or personality. But yeah, exceptional game...
