Xbox's 2026 summer showcase has come and gone! As per usual, it was a relatively strong showing featuring big reveals and welcome surprises, yet it still managed to put up a few big head scratchers. Fortunately, the good outweighed the bad. For starters, the hardcore Xbox community has deeply yearned for the return to exclusivity. After months of lip service, Xbox is taking action by making Gears Of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution console exclusive. Obviously, that leaves us with many questions! Why these two games? What data do they hope to collect from them? Is Xbox appeasing their hardcore community for enough time to help rebuild the base before transitioning to a fully PC ecosystem? Beyond the strategy updates, we have plenty of good games! Halo, State Of Decay, A Plague Tale: Resonance, Persona 6, a new Spryo, Vivarium, and a chockful of other delightful looking games all made their presence felt. Unfortunately, Xbox has decided for what is technically a third year in a row to round out a showcase on a Call Of Duty game. Combined with a predictably lacking performance by Bethesda and the otherwise strong showcase experiences some serious lows. Last, but not least, we got an extended showing for Gears Of War: E-Day. Did Coalition's return to the essence of this franchise go off without a hitch? We discuss!

Loved Matty expression yesterday when Fallout 76 and COD closed the show again. “I got some fuckin’ thoughts man”

Great showcase! I gotta say though, I can’t help but find it hilarious that the same people who told me that console exclusivity is a thing of the past, and that open platforms and PC/console hybrids are the future, are now on social media using Gears and Clockwork’s exclusivity as ammunition against PlayStation fanboys. It’s crazy how much influence a free 25th anniversary console and a new set of approved corporate talking points can have on someone’s opinion.

On a more positive note, I for one am all for this decision, and I hope it lights fire under Sony’s ass and encourages them to make more interesting decisions next generation. I was a massive fan of Sony’s first party titles during the PS3/4 era, but have completely lost interest in them throughout the PS5 generation. I sold my console when Square Enix announced their multiplatform push, and haven’t regretted it once.

Nah, I’ll say it. FUCK Phil and Sarah. Asha is the way

I'm gonna be real about project Helix. If it has steam on it I will very much consider buying it. If it doesn't there is absolutely no chance I will buy it. This is unfortunately the situation Xbox is in. They have to be the versatility box next generation. It's their only chance to stay competitive.

If Xbox is bothering to do exclusives again, making a steam box makes no sense.

They are not making exclusives though... I'm going to play Gears and Clockwork Revolution on my PC. Guess where I'm playing Wolverine? This "exclusivity" push is to shut up the "hardcore" fans but really... it ain't true exclusivity. even a dirty old laptop can easily play the new games with Xcloud and Geforce Now. Hell my phone can...

All I saw from that Gears gameplay was the surfaced document from Microsoft during Activision acquisition where they were saying the last of us 2 is the most impressive game ever made. And now Marcus can no longer run in a straight line. And no character rolled once in any of that gameplay. And now it’s console exclusive. This shit is so sad man.

They’re both true, Xbox turned down hardware sales and now they want to focus on them again, no difference with also offering multi party software

I’m most excited for Metro

The flip-flopping in messaging is back with Xbox, and honestly, I find it exhausting at this point. Asha is doing the same shit Phil did three years ago, and now we expect different results? Every damn news article about Xbox is them just “clarifying” prior statements. They don’t know wtf they’re going. Sorry, but Gears isn’t selling consoles. I’ve had every single Xbox, but there’s no way I’m buying the next-gen of their console, no matter what they make “exclusive,” and I certainly won’t invest more money in the ecosystem. I’m tired boss.

How long will Series X be supported? It does seem strange to double down on this console when Next Gen is around the corner.

Seeing Cog this happy is the true highlight! Even though I am a PS fan through and through, I am loving this new era of XBOX. Hopefully this moves the needle for better competition across the board.

I thought Xbox had a great showcase! Lots of great stuff to look forward to. However I came away with 2 key things: 1. Is it a little bit sad that the biggest takeaway from this show was a few first party game will be exclusive? When Sony and Nintendo have a show it’s just the assumption that any first party (excluding live service) is an exclusive, however with Xbox it’s a huge deal. I get that it’s the change in strategy and sentiment that matters…but it still feels a bit sad. 2. Fable. Am I the only one looking at what Playground puts forward and feeling concerned? Heavy CGI use + no HUD quick cuts of gameplay . It just looks like a product that they are too scared to show for too long. Despite those thoughts I’m actually loving the newly rejuvenated Xbox energy, here’s hoping they deliver!

So are we just going to pretend that wasn’t a cg trailer for cod? That was not gameplay

I’m gonna miss the OG Persona 4 cast a lot, they were a huge part in bringing those characters to life, Yosuke getting Teddy a part time job at Junes is still one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a game. I hope Atlus understands the assignment and guides this new generation to make these characters great again.

MambaForever

The showcase was awesome but I don’t get this energy that people are giving it like this changes everything for Xbox. Every game they showed but two are also on PlayStation and the two that weren’t are on PC. They’ve still shown absolutely no reason to buy their console especially at the most expensive it’s ever been.

I’m begging matty to please play control resonant, I get it you missed out on control and Alan wake 2, but how long can you avoid peak

It feels like a toss up. I was really looking forward to the console having steam. Admittedly, I only would have ever bought from there.

Love to see a sacred episode similar structured going over PlayStation axioms
