I saw Jeff Gerstman said that these two exclusives are meant to fail. These examples will get the hardcore in line for a multiplatform future. Not sure I believe that but at the same time, these games will absolutely perform much worse now.

Its weird that they would be willing to throw away potentially like 100 million just to placate these supposed "hardcore" Xbox fans when 1: There are not that many of them and 2: They have been trained to not buy any games anyways, they are probably going to play on Game Pass.

There’s no downside for them. Either they view the goodwill built into the leadup of their next console as worth the loss, or they just ultimately release them on Playstation eventually when Xbox players no longer care and are looking forward to future games.

I don’t think there’s any question this was the strongest showcase of the week. Damn near every game was a banger.

I kind of flip flop between Xbox and SGF. Persona 6 should have been a much bigger reveal but it kind of fell on its face. If it was at the end and showed like a couple characters or a setting, easy 10/10 for me.

Releasing Gears of War Reloaded on Playstation only to fail to release the next Gears game on Playstation a year later seems very dumb. Wasn't reloaded meant to hype up Playstation owners for the next game? There's no way they can possibly think that anyone is going to buy a $650 Xbox just to play Gears. Their own fanbase isn't that big, the ones who care about games being exclusive is even smaller. What's the point of trying to placate them?

Their hardcore fanbase bought 5 million copies of Forza 6 in a week between Xbox and Steam, with most of the sales on Xbox. I think people overestimate just how tiny the audience is for well-made tent-pole games on the platform. I don't think Microsoft has any delusions about anybody buying their current console for Gears of War E-Day. I think they want to placate the hardcore gamers that they hope to get out and buy their next console at launch (as pretty much only hardcore players buy consoles at launch). Either it works, E-Day sells several million copies and Microsoft has a hopeful core fanbase to rile up for a console launch, or it doesn't work, the game doesn't sell that well, and Microsoft releases the game on Playstation in a year or two. As far as Gears of War Reloaded, I think that was just Microsoft trying to milk as much out of remaster of a remaster. Gears of War Ultimate, which Reloaded was merely a 4K update of, released on Xbox years ago. It was free money to get some novelty buys off Playstation owners.

As I recall, the Covenant didn't even start speaking English at all til Halo 2. At the end of the day it's a small thing, but it does reinforce the general feeling that this game is a soulless cash-grab.

Xbox is all over the place, yet again. Just make everything exclusive, so they go under faster, and we can all move on. I’m so tired of them changing their messaging every week, or hearing from Asha constantly.

Fair. I don't really judge these things based on 'surprise' as much as just the overall excitement for each of the games show (filtered through my own preferences, of course... can't help that).

On the other-hand, if a person cared so little about a company’s games that they’re indifferent to the demise of that company, I cant imagine why such a person would care to pay attention where those games were or were not releasing 🤷 The only people that should care about whether Microsoft releases games on PS5 are people that really want to play Microsoft’s games but cannot or refuse to buy an Xbox or gaming PC. Every other group can play their games regardless, or continue enjoying a gaming life devoid of their titles.
