With Grand Theft Auto VI finally launching this November, we've been left without a key piece of information: Its price. Conjecture and prognostication has run rampant, but now we have confirmation that GTA6's base cost is $80 in the United States, with a $100 version offering players some perks and unlocks. With our long-awaited trip down to Leonida drawing closer on the horizon, we've much to discuss, including our hype level, whether we'll buy the base or special edition, the lack of a real physical version, and -- perhaps most intriguingly -- no new trailer or gameplay videos to help sell a product that (let's be honest) probably doesn't need much help to begin with. Other news this week includes significant layoffs at Sony-owned Bungie, indications that God of War: Laufey may launch as early as Q1 2027, more delisted shovelware tripe removed from PlayStation Store, executive-level issues at FromSoft, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! What's with Steam Machine's absurd price? Should Sony look to invest in any of Xbox's distressed assets? Why did PlayStation even bother publishing Midnight Murder Club if they were only going to ignore it? Will Chris and Colin one day have their shared ex-psychiatrist on the show to discuss our many mental ailments?

Pitching a Destiny dating sim is exactly why Bungie got smoked with layoffs. You have a massive, lore dense sci-fi ip and your pitch is to make them fuckable? Deeply unserious studio

Not sure I agree with Chris's take that GTA is actually a $100 game because the ultimate edition contains things you expect to be in the base game - my view of that is just that there's gonna be a shit ton of this cosmetic stuff in the game, and they're just locking a bit of that behind the ultimate edition. I guess we'll wait and see what percentage of that is paywalled behind that edition, but Chris is making it sound that if you buy the $80 edition that you won't be able to get a tattoo at all lol, and I just don't see that being the case. It's a shitty practice no doubt but I think it's par for the course with these big games nowadays. I mean it's on a smaller scale certainly, but 007 deluxe edition had some extra costumes and weapon skins which you had to pay extra for. And these things just don't affect the gameplay so I typically don't care. I'd be much more annoyed if there were missions locked behind it

Billy but not so Talented

The funniest part about the app is I just thought they were late for gay pride or something so maybe dudes right about the bisexual lighting lmao and by guy I of course mean Lockmort.

Bummer to have to wait a week for thoughts on Circana data. Interesting that May 2026 had an increase in overall console dollars spent compared to 2025, with Nintendo covering a massive drop from both Sony and Microsoft. The fact that unit sales are at their lowest since before the PS2 is not surprising given the price and the stage of the console life cycle.

I’m 38 working at the Port of Baltimore. I’ve probably had 12 jobs throughout my life cuz I hated working for someone. Hated authority. Couldn’t stand an entity controlling me. However I eventually opened my own freelance business for photography in 2017. Did pretty well but after Covid and random shit. It became harder to sustain. But now as a longshoreman. I essentially work when I want & I can still do photography on the side. Take off when I want. Support my family. It’s wild to me. Not what I saw for myself with juggling two jobs. But I now have health insurance, pension, benefits, and no boss lol. Work when I want. It’s so unique but nothing has ever fit my personality more. All this to say the American dream takes many forms.

There's only one studio I will accept an $80 price tag from and that's Rockstar. Others will try to follow, while not having half the game size or innovation, and then wonder why their game didn't sell well.

TheWubbz

I’m loving all the entitled gamer rage with the GTA news 🍿 see you at launch!

Golferpro10

I was a day 1 buyer of the PS4 and PS5. I can confidently say I will not be getting PS6 day and date. I may think about the hand hold but the actual console… maybe 2029…

Lawrence B

Yeah there are lots of games that lock a portion of cosmetics behind dlc etc. just because they’re purchased from an in-game location instead of just being dropped onto your inventory doesn’t make much difference to me. I think a lot of people are under the impression that like… all barbers are behind the paywall, instead of an ostensibly small portion of them. It is annoying perhaps but you can easily throw down 80 and wait to see if any of the cosmetic shit is even cool to begin with.

Tommy the sniper

Oh man, I get a write in on the show and I fuck my name up… typical.

Michael Hebert

These last two episodes have been great!

Addison117

I'm guessing intergalactic will be PlayStations first $80 game.

Susan B. Anthony Bourdain

Rockstar is selling boxed copies of GTA6 in mid November for Christmas shoppers. That’s it. No boxed copies on shelves before Black Friday would be insane.

Walk Forward Cutscene

Next year, the rest of the gun and ball games will also move to $80 (assuming they turn Call of Duty around this year). Then in 2028 $80 will be the standard price for AAA.

RektTek

I like the Bungie friend analogy. It's essentially how Chris and Colin feel about Dave Rubin.

With digital preorders, some people are living cheque to cheque, it’s easy to buy it in advance when they have that money to spend

Re gambling… I’d always wanted an online game where you have to pay a small wager to enter and have the opportunity to win money. For example. Everyone puts in $5 before a ranked COD game. The winning team gets their money back. Top 3 performers will win extra money. It’s like you’re gambling on yourself. Perform well you win your money back (and maybe more) Lose the game and you lose your $5

Deemac

The way I see it, they probably look at the handheld as another sku, so sales of that will count as a PS6 sale. So when reporting PS6 launch figures I bet it still looks like a successful launch as plenty will be interested in the handheld

Deemac

If Chris is struggling with the controls on og Sam Andreas then maybe he should give the trilogy version a go, as the updated controls are maybe the best part of those games. And they did a lot of improvements on those games since the extremely broken way they were launched

Walk Forward Cutscene

Putting up with the controls is worth not experiencing the textures of the definitive edition, even after the fixes

Ryan

Chris has been fake playing games for like a month now lol he’s always ‘very early on’ into something 15+ years old

Jamie Hexum

Exactly. They’re not locking all tattoo or mod shops to the ultimate edition, they’re locking just one each. I do not know how Chris doesn’t understand that

KYisLife

At the very end of the conversation about Nintendo: what Chris gets and Colin doesn’t as much is that Nintendo doesn’t care about narrative. They create a new gameplay loop and see which “cast member” fits it best. Sony is the complete opposite in which gameplay comes second to narrative. If Housemarque was with Nintendo they would kill because they are proudly gameplay first.

BigDumbStupidIdiot

Xenoblade and Fire Emblem (at least the more serious in tone ones) have excellent narratives but you're right, gameplay is king for Nintendo

KYisLife

Yes and those games are from Monolith and Intelligent Systems, not Nintendo EPD. They also know not to make more than one (maybe two) games in a series per system so they can breathe. Mario Odyssey was nine years ago lol

KYisLife

I agree and I think that Chris pushed back on Colin more this episode on some points and it enriched the discussion.

So I know what I’m going to say is some drink the kool aid, tin foil hat conspiracy theory shit. It more just someone has to say it and it’s all for the lol’s . So i just finished the new Ghosts and I really did like it. With all that said, no wonder it’s a critical darling. #AEndWithNoMen

Bisexual Lighting Rigger

Hearing all the talk of 80$ for GTA6 is so quaint to us Canadians. It is 110$ here... for reference 007 First Light is 90$ so we are getting into territory where people will have a harder time with that price.

Alex Porto

Damn, I hope things improve soon to you. 65 hour work week is very rough.

The reason 200+ people are showing as having preordered CoD, is that the games run through a launcher. Some probably did preorder the new game, but most just show because they preordered a previous game.

Jewelbox

Gamble on everything defense right into an email from 'AryanYN.' nice one guys.

Virgin Barry

If Sony released a game anywhere near as fresh and good as Breath of the Wild, they would also be able to get away with a lot more

Froilan

Ehhh excellent is really pushing it for Fire Emblem in my opinion. Fates, Engage, even Awakening are not great storytelling bars but they're still my favorites

DJChazzyCheff

Even after the patches, it still looks dreadful compared to the original, imo.

ChaosZwei+5

Nah fam neither Sony or Nintendo games have good stories the amount of games with good stories could probably be counted on your hands. It's not really a big deal if a game has a bad or lacking story

ChaosZwei+5

How tf are modern rockstar games innovative in the slightest?

Casey Cieslikowski

Colin called Moores Law reliable. Is he really? He said PS6 would be cheaper than PS5.

Bogey

Aryan YN is CRAZY

Zeta

generational fumble. imagine stuff as cool as Deep Stone Crypt or Last Wish in a sony-supported single player game, while not ideal it’d still be something. such a waste of talent

Holden Tudix

Pal is the American version of Mate. Cus if ur referring to a friend u “ my buddy so and so” but no one says pal unless ur angry saying “ listen here pal “

Save The Game Media

Glad to hear Colin singing the praises of Luna Abyss. I reviewed it and really liked it.

ChaosZwei+5

Gambling is actual degenerate filth that is all the worst parts of capitalism and it's crazy it's still legal in any capacity

Jewelbox

Interpersonal gambling is fun imo. I'm English but been to Vegas and put down a little money and enjoyed myself too. Not entirely anti gambling in principle but prediction markets should be more regulated. I agree that stuff really is degenerate. Gambling being the big societal ill it is now is more a symptom of the general trend of treating any activity or hobby as a betting or money making scheme. That is some real canary in the coalmine shit for a very dysfunctional society.

NeO JD

I’ve been surprised at the amount of people going for the $100 edition when it seems to be mostly cosmetics.

Jacob Lesperance

My self respect won't allow me to buy GTA6. Not the price at all. Its locking the game behind the $100 version. Which i would be more than find with it just being $100, lol. They just went to scummy. Ill buy in a yesr for $20.

Kevin Cooper

"You grew up in the era of answering the phone..." 🤣

AllTooEasy_

“Im Mah Tuurre” has to go. Its egregious

Kevin Cooper

The plural form of vinyl is vinyl.

Phillip Guglielmo

So true. The "good stories" we often think about in video games are barely-acceptable middle school fiction.

Terrorist Jerry

“Unironically loving” Polymarket and Kalshi where you can bet on assassinations, wars, and deportation statistics is certainly a take.

Terminal Creative

I was listening to 1:22:00 right as PlayStation announced no more disks. What poetry

Screwed Mcfucked

Pouring one out for papa furman jr after hearing the news RIP physical PlayStation games

Matt Wiles

What baffles me is that you guys think a physical game is the same as vinyl 😂 Vinyl SOUNDS better. Physical Games have zero quality benefit. Therefore, they’ll go. And….. there now gone. As per Sony’s announcement today.

Gooch Gobbler

Colin parrots this like once a pod dude, do ya not listen?

Hose A Taco

Was the show done before the PS3 store shutdown and no more disk news

Dion De Lesia

Are you confusing capitalism with freedom?
