Hola, Summoners! When was the last time you were on the outs when it comes to the critical reception of a game? This is top of mind for me, as I've platinumed Marvel's Wolverine. But rather than bore you with all the details of why I disagree with the critical consensus on this game, I wanted to know when was the last time you felt differently from the critics. Ironically enough, the last time I felt a dissonance between my personal opinion of a game and its critical reception was another Sony first-party game: Days Gone. Days Gone is so fucking underrated. On the opposite side of the spectrum, there are games like 007: First Light and Control, where I'm colder on the game than the critics are. To be clear, both of these games are great. I just don't think they're as good as the critics think they are. So tell me, Summoners: when was the last time you were at odds with the critical reception of a game? From both angles, I'd like to know. Fellow Patrons, feel free to tell me your experiences too.

Howdy boys! Got a keep it up for Fortnite! This season of wacky video game crossovers has been so fun for my son & I… who are super casual players. Have you resisted the siren song of Sora joining Fortnite or are you real fans who play it all?

Hey guys, Keep it up to Remedy Entertainment. Early reviews for Control Resonant are coming in and they are excellent. I'm really hoping this game is a commercial success for them, as I have a suspicion they are possibly at risk of reductions or worse, even if they are based out of Finland. To both of you, what is your history with Remedy games like, and do you have a favorite? Thanks boys

2026-09-20 02:00 Hello Summoners. I need to give a SORT IT OUT to Dustin. Really? A 1 and ½ stars to Resident Evil? The movie was amazing. I need to know the reasons you give it a lower score than the Mario Galaxy movie and Michael!?!? Come ON man.

Howdy Spank Bankers! I may be breaking the rules, but I wanted to shoot my shot and recommend two games that aren’t out yet, but feel aren’t getting enough hype! End of Abyss - releasing on October 1st is a Metroidvania-lite sci-fi survival horror made by Section 9 Games, a small team of devs from Tarsier (Little Nightmares). Silver Pines on October 8th - another gorgeous 2-D survival horror metroidvania with strong Silent Hill and Twin Peaks vibes. This was made by Wych Elm Games, a team from Sweden/Norway. Brad, not to sound too parasocial, but I could see you loving the way Silver Pines looks/plays especially! Have a great week! Thanks for all the great content!

Hello LSM crew. On the last episode, Colin said that Physint is coming to PlayStation. I'm not so sure. The game was originally announced as a PlayStation exclusive. Sony backed out and Microsoft stepped up. Why wouldn't that also include exclusivity? I have to imagine Kojima is pretty upset with PlayStation.

Greeting Summoners! With the recent consternation about the Wolverine's fart trail, yellow-painted walls, and self-talking characters, I wonder if Sony has data to suggest that players are struggling with basic navigation and exploration in their games; otherwise, I cannot believe they would willingly have all this ire thrown their way by insisting that gamers need that much hand-holding.

This is a good pairing to issue a sort it out...to myself. I have the platinum trophy for all 3 Persona rhythm games and have yet to play a single second of an actual Persona game. I swear I will right this wrong very soon

Hello, Summoners. I’d like to issue a “sort it out” to the people complaining about the Resident Evil movie before even seeing it. I saw the movie the other night, and honestly, it’s amazing — better than you could reasonably hope for when it comes to video game adaptations. I also left the cinema feeling pretty sad, because director Zack Cregger has already said he’s done with the IP following the backlash from fans before the film was even released. If you’ve got a banger of a director like him behind a film, maybe just trust the process and give it a chance before deciding it’s going to be terrible. Now we potentially have an amazing film and no chance of a sequel, so I hope everyone who spent months complaining before seeing it is happy with the outcome. Next time, at least wait until the film actually comes out before judging it. Who cares how “faithful” something is to the games if the end result is shit? Sort it out.

I think the logic, Joshua, is that when the game was initially announced, Physint was announced to be running on Decima. So, assuming it's still running on Decima, then there's not a snowball's chance in hell it'll be exclusive to Xbox. Or, more likely, development had yet to start in earnest, in part due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. In which case, Kojima Productions is probably early enough in development to switch to Unreal. However, a broader argument is that, with Project Helix effectively being a PC, the concept of an "Xbox" game, as we know it, doesn't make sense in this new reality. Furthermore, Xbox has yet to commit to exclusivity beyond Gears and Clockwork. Ultimately, we'll see. For Kojima's sake, I think it'd be ideal if it came to everything. PlayStation abandoning PC was a major sticking point in losing Physint, according to Jason Schreier. While I'd understand Kojima's frustration, I don't think it'd make sense to cut off your nose to spite your face and make Physint, the spiritual successor to Metal Gear and the most commercial thing Kojima has done in ages, exclusive to Xbox. Whatever Xbox even is by 2030, or whenever Physint comes out.

Who knows, Kevin. I don't know if you're playing Wolverine, but Insomniac did put a patch out today that makes the scent trail more transparent. It doesn't remove it entirely, but coming from someone who wasn't bothered by the scent trail in the first place for obvious lore reasons, it's definitely less pronounced than it was before. Insomniac also stated that they are looking into making the scent trail toggleable in a future update, which, admittedly, probably would reduce a fair amount of criticism. But you're probably right. They probably do have some data indicating that people are getting lost. While anecdotal, I did see a funny TikTok of a guy complaining about still seeing the tutorial for the jump button, only to immediately miss the jump and die.

THE ORDER 1886 is by far mine I still play it at least once a year since it came out. The other would be mad max a top 10 if not top 5 in the PS4/X1 GEN IMO.

Raisin

I love The Order: 1886. I, too, replay The Order at least once a year. Interesting that you mentioned Mad Max. I liked what I played of it. However, I didn't roll credits on it. It's a game I need to get back to.

Sort it out Typhoons! I'm in Japan for the first time and was only able to get tickets for TGS for Monday. Thanks to natural disasters they cancelled Monday. Not a total loss as my time here has been great, but missing out on attending TGS for it's 30th anniversary, as well as Ace Combat's, and all the merch I planned to buy is a bummer. For real though I hope it's not bad for Japanese citizens. From Louisiana I'm familiar with hurricanes and know how disruptive storms can be. To my fellow LSM listeners in Japan I hope you are safe.

The Callisto Protocal. It got scathing reviews but it was pretty damn good IMO. The melee combat was really satisfying and the foundation was there for something special. Couldve had the classic Uncharted 1->2 jump if given another chance.

Raisin

The Callisto Protocol is another good one. I did really like its melee, but I wish they would've offered a simpler dodge. As I understand it, the director, Glen Schofield, was inspired by Punch-Out!! for its unique dodging mechanic. While I respect the attempt, I do wish the dodge was more traditional. Shame we ain't getting a sequel. Also, Sam Witwer was great as Captain Leon Ferris. I should go back to it. Not far off from the plat.

Shmicker

I get he’s frustrated at the fans, but maybe he shouldn’t write off making another one until people actually see the movie. People get mad over tons of movies before they come out. Robert Pattinson as Batman, Heath Ledger as Joker, etc.

The Diddler

Are games suffering from sheer volume of releases? Much of the negative feedback on Wolverine boils down to "I've played this before." We're entering an era where every new release feels familiar, and everyone is already itching to move on to the next game. Combat-wise, Onimusha and Wolverine are basically the same game, one offense focused, the other defense focused. Both have weak enemy variety, drag on too long, and offer average level design. Yet one gets praise and the other gets hate. (Although Deathstrike’s design deserves on the hate because….wow)

Comparisons for Dustin: Please compare Fortune’s Weave to 3 Houses. Please compare Orbitals to the Hazelight games.

I'd like to give it a keep it up to myself. You're welcome.
