In its first month on the market last fall, PlayStation 5's Ghost of Yotei sold more than three million copies. Now that we're a year out from that date, it wouldn't be surprising if that number was at least double. Yet, first party developer Sucker Punch, the team that gave us not only Ghost, but also Sly Cooper and Infamous, has laid off a couple dozen people. How can a modest-sized AAA team that easily turned a healthy profit with its last project still be the subject of downsizing? Should we expect more upheaval in the first party family, whether or not future games sell well? Could it be that this is a mere case of rightsizing, and not at all something more existential? There's much to discuss. Plus: Grand Theft Auto VI's file size on PS5 is humongous, Wolverine's controversial release demonstrably helped sell hardware, Arrowhead talks about the potential (or lack thereof) of a Helldivers 3, Silent Hill 1's remake is apparently more imminent than we thought, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Would Naughty Dog be wise to not have a review cycle for Intergalactic? Why can't players let Mass Effect go? How many disastrous fiscal quarters can Xbox withstand before it becomes clear there's no turning the brand around? Does Chris resemble Jan Cope from Ace Combat, or is this simply another case of Man in Glasses Syndrome?Timestamps:0:00:00 - Intro

Saw the thumbnail and thought Jeb Bush was gonna take Chris’ place.

Dustin looks like a father. And that’s an awesome look. I don’t think he looks tired, and he looks great for someone with a newborn.

Publix Chicken tender sub

I really enjoy the spoiler cast and reviews because I always can go back to it whenever I finish the game. And you guys always do a good job.

Jason Rose

This. Childless commenters wondering why a dad with a newborn looks like a dad with a newborn.

Carlos Hernandez

Dustin is wrong about the plate covers they also work with ps5 pro

SL

“You can make a lot of money catering to the mentally ill.” Never before has dealing with the chud audience been summed up so well.

Listening to the episode PSA from a food scientist - best by dates are loose. Unopened milk will be perfectly safe past it, although may go bad a bit faster once opened (a professor said he had milk over a month past the BB) We typically test shelf life marked+20%, sometimes due to quality (I.e. chips will be safe but might become stale), and sometimes due to safety (I.e. Expiration date, not best by) Also, common sense is totally a legit way to interpret always follow if in doubt throw it out.

Kaleb

Only top plates, the bottom pieces they put the tabs in a different spot. Learned this the hard way after ordering the volcanic red ones

The "I LOVE SATIN" joke made me Crack up laughing for the first time in what has felt like years. Thanks Chris, you will be missed

KYisLife

The DualSense stick drift is unacceptable

GO BREWERS!!!

Alan

Best by and sell by are two different things

Xenomorph Moriarty

Maybe my favorite opening hour of an SS ep in a looooonnng time

Bisexual Lighting Rigger

Sucker Punch should resurrect Prophecy. They have already done the world building I'm sure. Just get to work.

Whiner

This idea that wolverine wasn’t gonna sell well do to online sentiment is and always was stupid. The gaming community doesn’t really get paid attention to by the real world like that lol

Bone-In

Selling Xbox don’t sound so bad. Sure Microsoft is the only reason they exist but it’s time to move on.

"He's too busy being gay dude" Dustin Furman 2026

JoshM

Am I the only one who doesn’t understand the obsession and fascination around Jin Sakai as a character? I’ve not played Yōtei atm and I want to replay Tsushima, but I was so not interested almost at all in its narrative the first time I played

Bone-In

Alien Isolation is stuck at 30 fps on PS5. 60 fps on Series X

Dante B

It’s so funny to me that the physical team thinks that there is an industry wide conspiracy to suppress physical sales because it was (briefly) hard to find two extremely popular games at retail from one publisher. And no other verifiable proof at all.

Killwin

So we have Use By and Best Before in UK retail. Use By is for most things in a fridge. Meat, dairy etc. Best before is for bread and cakes etc. but we treat both the same because of how people act to buying something after its best before.

Bogey

We were robbed a “take care guys”. There’s only a precious few left

Addison117

The steel battalion controller is the most niche controller from that era, only used on 2 games and was the size of a coffee table.

Bone-In

You don’t understand the obsession because you haven’t played the game 🤣 Cmon man!

JoshM

I haven’t played Yotei, but I have played Tsushima, the game with Jin in lol

Addison117

Steam is on every platform, even the PS5

Tommy the sniper

On the subject of stick drift, my newest controller I got with my pro came with stick drift. Whilst the one I use the most after a few years now still works perfectly. So it’s seem’s to be almost random.

Mog

Yeah my DualSense that came with my console 4 years ago is totally fine. Brand new one? Stick drift within a week. My Xbox ROG Ally with the same type of sticks I've had a year? Nothin. It's gotta be something on Sony's end. These controllers are all using the same pentometer style sticks and the DualSense seems to have the widest quality control variance of any of them.

Screwed Mcfucked

Most people play FPS games and Sports titles. I don't know much about sports games, but I'm sure the rapid constant inputs of both sticks in a competitive FPS (including regular l3 and r3 usage) probably contributes to much greater wear and tear than say, ghost of yotei would cause. And yeah, most people use a single controller. Maybe they have 2 if they are a power user.

Matt Wiles

Abrupt ending! In all the years, I don’t think I’ve seen that before. Not a bad thing, just feels that things are changing…. Also fun how you’re involving Dustin a lot more, to get his views.

Yet

You can skip resonant it’s some hot garbage

Ross Stoddart

Woah. What’s with the editing at the end of this episode? No “take care guys”?

Adam Barnes

Dude that whole series is a 7/10. Better than Horizon, but still not some masterpiece that needs to be held on some pedestal. I don’t get it 🤷‍♂️

JoshM

Honestly I kinda agree. I enjoy Tsushima when I’m playing it, and Iki Island was cool, but I barely remember anything about it outside of combat and stealth being fun. I wished the game was more like Legends in terms of like magic and supernatural stuff etc.

Master Zeta

The ending line to this podcast is brilliant 👏 well done.

Andy carroll

How can Colin still have the “it has never happened to me, so it surely isn’t an issue” stance? lmao. Truly wild

Ben King

I’ve never had stick drift on any controllers across any console or handheld in 24 years. Never bought a new controller besides what comes with my console. What are you guys doing with your controllers? 🤣

Killwin

So, i play with a ps5 controller on pc, and some games had crazy stick drift for me. I ended up getting an edge. I dont do anything crazy. Maybe dropped the controller a few times lol

Bisexual Lighting Rigger

I had the exact same issue. My launch PS5 controller is still my best controller. No drift, feels more solid and put together. I got 2 new controllers with the PS5 Pro. 1 has stick drift and the other just feels kind of flimsy. I'm sure there have been cheaper parts put in over the years and you can totally tell.
