Oh wow! Steely Dan marathon and Nick Drake full album in the same day. I sent you both CDs so I’m so honored and thrilled 😁 Is it my birthday or something?!! Can’t wait to listen. Thank you!! Hope you like it. Tracks 2 & 6 are my fave and Title Track = pure delight. Happy Anniversary for you both and the channel!! ✨🤪

Franck Thibault

An other artist I didn't know! I am not sure how much I will listen to this again, but it was definitely good! As far as the next album, I think Exit Stage Left, a live performance, and since you've reacted to most of the Studio version of the songs in that concert already, you wouldn't cover songs you haven't done already. It's Rush Live! It's a win-win!

Mark Alexander

So, uh, what’s the next Michele Michele album they have which they should listen to?💓

Michele

Haha, right?!! I feel like I hit a jackpot. But they also have ELP (Brain Salad Surgery) and Jethro Tull (Thick as a Brick) but my lucky streak is probably over. What album would you recommend? Thanks, Mark. They certainly have a bunch of good music that was sent or recommended to them. Cheers ✨🤪

Michele

Good recommendation. Thanks, Franck. ✨🤪

Debra Brabenec

So glad you did a whole album of Nick Drake! I've been listening to him since 1980 and have the Fruit Tree box set on vinyl. I sang and played the song "Northern Sky" (from Bryter Later) to my husband when we were dating.

Michele

Debra, are you my long-lost sister? Or an ex-roommate? Hahaha. Sending greetings. Appreciate you on this channel. ✨🤪

NICK DRAKE WAS {IS} ONE OF THE TRUEST,MOST ORIGINAL ARTISTS OF ANY TIME OR GENRE..HE WILL MAKE YOU SMILE AND THEN CRY {OFTEN IN THE SAME SONG} KEEP' EM COMIN MY ROCKY MOUNTAIN FRIENDS....MUCH LOVE,KENT.

Debra Brabenec

Sistah from anothah mistah?😅 Maybe!!

Dan L.

Poor, tragic Nick Drake. Such a beautiful song maker, tormented by depression, finally to suicide. Listen to "River Man" please!

Nick and Lex, I’m so looking forward to watching this tonight. I’m lying in my hospital ICU bed and can really use a good Nick and Lex reaction. It’s a long story, but I had a major heart attack on Friday morning and it’s not an exaggeration that I’m lucky to still be here. The artery that was 100% clogged is called the “widow maker”. Anyway, it’ll take some time, but I’ll be A-OK. And I will enjoy every future Nick n Lex video. I love your passion, positivity, and curiosity.

Murdock Moriarty

I did not anticipate what my innocent requests would lead to 😀 I'm flattered this brought so much musical joy to both of you.

Erik Berg

This really brightened up my day, thanks! I’m a big Nick Drake fan, it’s really too bad he passed away so young and all we got was 3 albums. However, I’m grateful we got them! This album in particular really shows his prowess on the acoustic guitar. Nick, as somewhat of a guitarist myself, I know what you meant about hand position. The tone completely changes depending on how much pressure you put on the strings, and much more on an acoustic than electric. I also really appreciate the rawness of the recordings, in a way it’s the polar opposite of something like Steely Dan (who I’m also a huge fan of)! His other 2 albums each has a different feel to them. Both are “fuller” sounding with guitar overdubs and some orchestration. “Five Leaves Left” has a little more melancholic vibe overall while “Bryter Later” I find more upbeat with more of a folk-rock feel since drums are featured on most of the songs. You really can’t go wrong with any of his songs, they are all great! I was amazed how after hearing each album only once, when I went back the second time every song already felt very familiar. A good testament to just how strong the songwriting is! Anyway, sorry for writing such a long comment…thanks for everything you guys do!

Erik Berg

Yikes…get well soon and best of luck!

Michele

Oh, Andrew! Sending healing thoughts to you and appreciation to your doctors and care team. Please take care and love that heart ❤️

Michele

Thanks. We love the long comments. I just sent Nick Drake “Five Leaves Left” mostly so Lex can hear “River Man” - it’s incredible that he still gets so much attention since he was here just a short time. I enjoy his playing but it’s his voice that gets me ... and the haunting melodies. ✨🤪

Rob Gray

Since you liked this so much Lex I need to recommend you the Tim Buckley live album (one of the best recorded live album ever- sound quality-wise) from 1968. The song "Phantasmagoria in Two" is just so great as is the rest of the album. You must hear it to believe just how good it is. The accompanying acoustic bass to most songs is so great along with Tim's acoustic guitar and his very unique and stunning voice.

Dan L.

"River Man" is the song that hooked me on Nick Drake. Such a haunting melody, sung and played so beautifully by Nick, and the production with the strings is just perfect. I hope our friends will react to it soon.

Erik Berg

Yeah, ”River Man” is an amazing track (along with all the rest). Crazy that I somehow didn’t mention anything about his voice/singing, I love it of course and his incredibly emotive and memorable melodies!

Andrew A

Going home today! Yay!

NicknLex

Andrew I am so happy you feel better. We send you best of vibes and lots of love and health. I am so happy you are back home and feeling better.

TIM Fronterhouse

Nothing better than Nick Drake. I've been in love with his music since my first introduction in the mid 90's. That voice! Es lo mejor! No hay nadie como Nick Drake.

Andrew A

Thanks, Nick n Lex! Glad to be home! It's clear to me that both of you are genuine, decent human beings. Like attracts like, as they say, and you've attracted likeminded music lovers. I'm glad to be part of the community you've built.

Murdock Moriarty

An album where sadness becomes beauty. I love that stuff, though others might find it depressing. Thanks for your great reaction/listening party 🙂

Michele

Sweet. Your have many people sending love and wishes for a speedy recovery. Sounds like you’re doing remarkably well. 🤗♥️🙏💖❣️💝👍💗☺️

Michele

I think I’m drawn to minor keys ... Nick’s unexpected low but soft voice as it dips to reach those beautiful minor notes, chords and progressions gives it that sad and haunting vibe. ✨🤪

Erik Berg

I agree 100%! I like stuff that is all minor or a mix of major and minor but usually songs that are 100% major key don’t do a whole lot for me, more often than not they give me a kind of “too good to be true” type of feeling if that makes sense. Not saying it’s bad, just not my thing.

Michele

Gratitude 😉☺️

I'll never forget a Volkswagen used Pink Moon in a commercial in the 1990s(?) It was the first introduction for a lot of folks to Nick Drake, and he has been on my playlists/turntables ever since. Sadly, there are only three albums, plus a compilation with demos and odds (the song "Black Dog" being one of my all-time ND songs). So wonderful, thanks for sharing.

Nobby

That was a lovely reaction. As others have said Pink Moon is Nick’s final album and his starkest- having been disillusioned with the poor sales of his previous two albums he wanted no overdubs - the only overdub being the piano solo in the opening song. His previous albums ‘Five Leaves Left’ and ‘Bryter Layter’ are equally as beautiful with some of the most beautiful arrangements you could wish to hear. I do hope you will find the time to react to both albums.

NicknLex

Thank you and so glad you enjoyed this with us! I personally can’t wait to get to Bryter Layter!!! It’s been though having to hold out! Great to have you here and thanks again, Lex :)

Stephen Selby

Nick Drake was a wonderful singer songwriter whose career was tragically short. Might I suggest that you check out a contemporary of his who IMHO is even better the late great Sandy Denny who also died tragically young at the age of 31. They both had the same manager Joe Boyd. Her most famous song is who knows where the time goes which has been covered by every singer worthy of the name. Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin called her his favourite girl singer.

Falcongal

Nick was such a beautiful artist and you definitely need to do his other two albums. Nick really only used alternative tunings. There is a musician named Joshua Lee Turner that devoted a lot of time trying to work out everything about Nick’s guitar and playing such as tunings, strings, age of strings, how long his nails were, how he picked; the detail was amazing! He has quite a fascinating video on YT about it.

TIM Fronterhouse

N & A- Gracias. Nick Drake, obviously es lo mejor. Can't go wrong. La Voz....la Guitarra...you know.... Escucha. Disfruta...Sabor.

Jack Engard

What was unique about Nick was that like Joni Mitchell, he favored many different tunings. Countless bands mention him as influence like REM, Phish and the list goes on and on. Richard Thompson the guitarist from Fairport Convention has said he prefers Nick's first two albums because by the time of Pink Moon Nick's psychological condition was so fragile that musical wear and tear was evident. Publicly he left us so soon and yet there's a lo-fi recording called Family Tree where you can hear a 9 year old Nick playing with his family. So you can see he started very young and despite only being in the public sphere for a flashing moment and then was gone.
