Lex decided to finally show this full album to Nick... and he went bonkers while she sings along to an album she's cherished for years - one she used to listen to with her Dad. Great times!

We hope you enjoy this as much as we did!

Lots of love always,

Nick, Lex, Marley and Lu!

the lady on the front cover was my landlady in 1978! she was a part time actress and also did this album cover and later the guy Aaron Rappaport who made this cover was my client for pest control!

Thorsten Spinger

I love this album too. I was born in 67, the year of Sgt. Pepper, and I hear this music from my father and my uncle and feel very happy to hear this music. Supertramps albums are outstanding and you must hear „Even in the quietest moments“ completely!!! What can I Do that you could hear this one ?

Ken Cyrus

This album is perfect. Supertramp are bunch of great musicians and perfectionists. Every single note is planned. I never get tired of hearing "Child of Vision".

Phillip Bates

This album is a masterpiece. And I love this band. I was surprised that I remembered a lot of the lyrics. I was singing right along with you, Lex. It was fun listening to this again with you both... brings back so many memories. And I'm glad you mentioned the album cover art and showed it to Nick, as it's one of my favourites.

Hello from New Zealand, I've just joined your wonderful Patreon channel. I was torn which full album to jump into first. When I saw this, and read the description, my decision was made. I love & respect what Lex said about why she hadn't shared Child Of Vision; because it is part of a whole. It is absolutely the perfect ending to what is a true "album", where each song is indeed part of the complete record. It's fantastic to see just how familiar you are with each song; from the lyrics to the instruments, to every beat and every chord. A true masterpiece. You know it's good when you have listened to it 100 times or more and never, ever want to skip a track, or fast-forward through a song. Thanks for sharing.

NicknLex

Welcome and so glad you enjoyed!!! 😃

I've listened to this album many times, but not much in the last 10 years. Tonight I've been re-blown away by how good this stuff is. I just heard another reactor do Child of Vision, and I had a vague recollection of you two doing this whole album. Pleased to find that you have. I just had a blast listening with you again. Some thoughts follow. After just hearing Child of Vision I loaded up your video and realized as Gone Hollywood started that it fades in and Child of Vision fades out. Awesome way to package an album. Makes it great to kick back and listen to the whole thing straight through. What an experience. Around the middle you asked what other Supertramp you should listen to. I highly recommend Even in the Quietest Moments. I think it's the most similar to COTC and BIA among the rest of their albums. It has the progginess. Pyramid! That's my favorite APP album. There's another one for you two to do on the channel! So much music and so little time.

This album came out in '79, I was in my junior year of high school. Logical Song was ridiculously popular and was all over rock radio. I remember listening to this in the car on the way to school, smoking cigs with my buddy who at 17 talked about starting a business while I was worried about where I'd get beer money for Friday night... he and I are still in touch despite being separated by 8,000 miles, and occasionally send each other song links, most from those days. Thanks for this, I hope you enjoyed it!

Mickey D

Oh yeah - Nick, call your pops. My biological father and I were estranged from 1980 until his death in 1998 and I always regretted never reaching out.

Walter Gill

Hey Guys, What a great album and AOR use to play songs from this record to death and you couldn't turn on the radio back in the day without hearing The Logical Song, Take The Long Way Home & Goodbye Stranger among other classics on this album!! What a way for me on the last night before I have my computer repair hopefully soon to listen to one of the classic prog pop rock albums of all time and it's also an underrated in some circles!! But this album ranks very high on my list of classics that I want to listen to again & again!! I'm so glad that your dad turned you on to great like this one, Lex!! Can't wait to hear from you soon!! Thanks & Keep Rockin'!! - <3 <3

Nice! It’s been awhile and I’m happy it exceeds my memory. Lex, I agree with the carnival, circus, tongue-in-cheek vibe and listening to the title track, I totally hear Cirque du Soleil! 🤡 Tuba, trombone and Wurlitzer contribute to the circus feel, along with vocal melodies and sound effects. I’ll finish later but it is never boring, innit?!! Feel like I’m with you - I’m elf-on-a-shelf 🧝‍♀️ sitting above you in your media room. Wha? Am I trippin? ✨🤪 Tyty

Richard Dobson

Don't worry Nick, I had to take a break as well! And Lex, you have carte blanche to choose the next subject matter! Yes guys, there are of course two vocalists. Roger Hodgson has the higher register, Rick Davies has the lower register. Both are on keys, with Roger also on guitar. They are credited with writing all the songs, though in reality they wrote individually and generally sang their own compositions. This is the last in a sequence of four albums that really stand out in their catalogue (Crime Of The Century, Crisis? What Crisis! and Even In The Quietest Moments being the first three) and are the most popular. What I like so much about 'Breakfast' is that the arrangements and playing is impeccable, their control of the production is spot on, and more than on any other album there is so much room for John Anthony Helliwell's sax, reeds and woodwinds to add colour and depth. Listening on headphones highlights Dougie Thomson's amazing bass lines and Bob C. Benberg's perfect drums. You have already reacted to the title track from 'Even In The Quietest Moments' and you loved it, but I would still suggest that album for full review, as it includes arguably their greatest prog track 'Fool's Overture' which has another Pink Floyd vibe. I really enjoyed this reaction guys, I'm so glad I joined your Patreon channel, and I'm going to be discovering YOUR back catalogue! Don't hold back the tears, we are all with you.

NicknLex

Thank you for all the info and support! :) - Lex

I knew The Logical Song, Goodbye Stranger & Breakfast in America, but I had no idea that I knew the songs or who was the band signing! Very good album. To me, it sounds like a mix of Elton John and Abba. Nick, that lick is not in Don't Speak... But you guys are right, those of us that are here are here for happy and less happy times. You guys make us happy all the time, so we are here for you when you need us.

Cappy Petri

Love this album in its entirety. Glad you took the time to share with Nick. Now you really must take the time to listen to Roger Hodgson’s first solo album “In the Eye of the Storm”. I liken it to Breakfast in America as hardly a bad song on the whole thing and VERY Supertrampish. ❤️

Dave Oplinger

I couldn’t WAIT until you got to Child of Vision, my favorite track on the album. After Nick mentioned the piano early on I knew he would just be blown away - nearly half the song is a piano solo!

NicknLex

You are so sweet 🥲 Thank you for your constant love and support!! Your love and encouragement is felt daily! ❤️

NicknLex

Thank you for everything Franck! ❤️

NicknLex

Wow that sounds like something we definitely need to check out! Thank you!!

Scott Anderson

Early college years I had this as an 8 track or cassette I can’t remember. I listened to it in the car mostly those first four songs are unbelievable. Great to see your heart felt reaction and authenticity. Thanks for sharing about your dad. My father and I were on different plants most of my life. But his last few years were great as my stepmother had passed and we were able to reconnect better. We were still on different planets but reestablishing those connections was important for both of us. It’s a hard place to advise but the opportunity to connect is fleeting. Wish you the best and we appreciate you two weeping it real. Great album with a great reaction.

Matt Peregrine

Could you please post the direct link. I can't access the video from my phone without one. 😢

Mark Grasnick

Funny you mention that you both think alike. Someone once said the same of my wife & I, “like peas in a pod”. It’s a blessing as we have been together for 51 years, married 48 years and it does help smooth over any disagreements, as you both know what the other is thinking or where they are coming from. You are both blessed and yes, another great reaction of a really great album.

Dleet

Thank you for playing this album in its entirety. I had forgotten how fantastic it is as a whole. I listened to it many (many) times when it first came out when I had to flip the vinyl. This brings me back to the time when my friends and I would travel to the record store and spend way too much time going through the bins alphabetically, letting our fingers walk through the albums, pulling them out when the cover art caught our eye. We would then sit around at night and listen together instead of studying. Those days are gone, but you help recreate the feel and joy of listening to music with like-minded friends. Keep it up, I'll be there with you.

B Mac

I really need to stop in here more often! But Nick keeps churning out content on the Metal Channel like a Metal Maniac!

B Mac

You're not lyin'.....you're sitting down!!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

B Mac

There's so much music, its quite easy to miss some things. Out of my 3,000 vinyl albums, 1,000 CDs and 3 TB of digital music I'm sure you haven't heard some of the music I have. 👍

B Mac

This is their most commercially successful album.

B Mac

Tracks 2, 3, 4 and 6 were on the radio a lot back then!

B Mac

like, dude and like, dudette

Nick, it's quite OK to express your emotions when a song moves you, I'm sure it is indeed a safe space and everyone here is supportive. Hey, that's why we love music, it speaks to our emotions and we've all got our problems mate. It's beautiful to see you two being so caring and supportive of each other, bless you both. Lovely reaction to another great Supertramp album, certainly their most commercial and financially successful but nonetheless full of wonderful songwriting and musicianship. If you're interested in another Supertramp album I highly recommend "Even in the quietest moments" from a few years earlier, it's probably my favourite followed closely by "Crime of the Century". I think you've already reacted to the title track which is just magnificent, one of Roger's little masterpieces! Incidentally, I have to mention how amazing John Helliwell is on sax, his playing is so tasteful and I love the way he comes in and out between the vocals with these beautiful melodic phrases. Also those high register instruments he plays would either be a clarinet or a soprano sax, he also plays alto and tenor sax. Best Wishes

Bruce

I did vinyl sales back in the day when BIA came out. It was one of the few albums at the time that we’d play from front to back over and over without tiring of it. A masterpiece of arrangement.

B Mac

Great album review! Lots of hits on this album

Melissa D

I remember listening to this album on repeat in the late 70s - we lived in Florida and then moved to Tennessee. I remember vividly hearing this album as we were leaving Destin and driving back home. It's amazing how songs can transport you to a moment in time! I'm glad you both enjoyed this album - it has been a favorite of mine for over 40 years.... which makes me feel very old! LOL

John Suda Jr

I joined your Patriot as I had to watch Nick's reaction to Breakfast in America. So I saw the Breakfast in America tour at the Philly Spectrum live in 1979. This was the year I graduated from High School. I was a Baseball Pitcher back in that day. This album was always my go to album as I was driving around in my 1972 Chevy Malibu getting pumped up to pitch in the big game. Such great memories. We won the majority of the time!

Sam Bennett

Awesome, you guys! I always enjoy your reactions and thoughts and banter! How can one not like Hodgson and Davies. One of the unique things about them is although they both started as collaborators on the first three records; they later would become separate songwriters, only compiling each other's songs together in a way that would fit together later in the mix. On the fifth, sixth and seventh Supertramp albums, rarely would Roger and Rick even record in the same room together. It's a joint studio thing that I feel must be pretty unique in the history of rock. Unfortunately, the two also grew apart after Breakfast In America... Even though it was a massive success, their ego's often clashed about which direction the band's sound should go. Combine this, Rick's wife becoming the manager (who Roger apparently hated) and Roger having a kid, he decided to leave the group after Famous Last Words, and Rick took the reins thereafter. Then, due to a legal feud over Rick performing Roger's songs (contractually Rick wasn't allowed to) Supertramp have never reunited with Roger or vice versa. And it doesn't look like they ever will, either. But the music is magic and lives on! Roger's first solo outing, In The Eye Of The Storm is very much a forgotten Prog gem filled with tracks originally written to be on the original follow up to Breakfast In America. And the same goes for Brother Where You Bound, technically Rick's first solo album as "Supertramp."

Sam Bennett

Oh and, "Crisis What Crisis?" I think is the next logical reaction. You've both heard Crime Of The Century and it's the follow-up.

Edmond Cox

Have you guys consumed ABBEY ROAD yet???

poluxsaurus

I was lucky to grow up with this music, I was around 10 when this came out and the BiA tape was a heavy hitter at home. This is a desert island album. Rick Davies is the one with the lower voice BUT he also does the Bee Gees type falsetto, usually as a second voice in his own songs. You have 2 essential Supertramp albums left: Crisis What Crisis and Even in the Quietest Moments. For other bands album reactions I suggest: A New World Record by Electric Light Orchestra (or the concept album Eldorado that somebody sent to your PO Box) Queen II by Queen

Kevin Michaud

My first experience w/ Supertramp was Crime of the Century as well. I too grew up w/ this music, had a finished basement in my parents house w/ my drum kit and a high end stereo system, so i was always looking for great sounding production, of which includes all Supertramp albums and Steely Dan of course. When CD's first came out, i had a decent sized vinyl collection, but when out and bought 3 CD's when i first bought a player. This album was one of those, as well as Sgt. Pepper and Dark Side of the Moon...

mka mix

I've listened to this album so many times. I listen to all kinds of genres but this is one of my favorite albums due to the fact that every song is great, and that last track is absolutely amazing.

Greybeard Music Man

My dearly departed wife loved Supertramp! We were married in 1979 and honeymooned in Paris just to see Supertramp live. My favorite track they played in that concert was "Bloody Well Right". Davies and Hodgson were in their prime! I was huge into Rush and Genesis at the time, but Break in America made me take notice of Supertramp. Thanks for the memories you two!

Scott Abernethy

In 1997 Supertramp released the album “Some Things never Change “ IMO a production musical masterpiece. The opening track (It’s a hard world) is mesmerizing with Lee Thornburg of tower of power horn section

Mark Alexander

Guitarist Roger Hodgson retired with his family about 20 miles from me here in the Sierra foothills of Northern California (same are as Mike Pinder of the Moody Blues, where hippies go to retire.) Great Reaction, of course! Do more please. BTW, I assumed this had been mentioned… Rick Davies is the singer/keyboardist with the lower voice, and Roger Hodgson is the singer/guitarist with the higher voice. They typically sing the songs they write, usually alternating on tHe albums, and harmonizing on the other’s songs. Also, the woodwind you are hearing, Nick is a clarinet. Cheers!

Debra Brabenec

I think sometimes it's a soprano sax.

Debra Brabenec

I'm really only familiar with the radio hits, so thanks for showing me the whole album. It was very good. My husband and I love the pedal point in "Goodbye Stranger." It is probably my favorite.Nick, I hope you get to reconnect with your father. I'd give anything to talk to mine again. He died when I was just 14 and my adult self has had so many questions for him over these last 50+ years.🎵❤️🎵

Pete Miller

One of my Top 5 Favorite bands of all time. This was their most popular album, Crime one of the best Prog Rock albums ever, but my personal favorite Tramp album is Even In The Quietest Moments. If Supertramp has a "Magnum Opus" it is most definitely Fool's Overture on Even In The Quietest Moments (which was the album before Breakfast In America). Especially amazing!

David Hendry

Quietest Moments would be a good album to review next.

Patrick Nicolucci

I had so much fun singing and playing the bass along with this album and with you guys. thanks so much love your reactions. I was 22 when this album came out saw the tour. check out vid of them live on you tube. Roger Hogdson has the high voice, Rick Davies has the lower octave vocals, extremely talented musicians.

Patrick Nicolucci

Do Alan Parsons Turn of a Friendly Card album reaction one of his best !~

Tim Backster

Nice, when are you finally back to Elton John's signature albums?

Luke D

Nice job you two. I got to see them during their Even in the Quietest Moments tour at a (somewhat) intimate venue, which made it nice. They were very good live. It was due to the success of this album that their venues became much bigger :)

Ramon Lapenta

Such a great album front to back, not a bad song here. This album gets me every time, specially Lord Is It Mine, so I'm right there with you on this Nick, and hearing your comments about it make it even more special. There are in fact two singers (and both are composers) Roger Hodgson and Rick Davies, this album is more Roger, Crime of the Century is more Rick. I saw Roger in concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London a few years ago and it was incredible, such a gentle soul and sensitive human, one of the best concerts I've been to, he mentioned he wrote the main part of The Logical Song when he was only 18 years old. Loved Alexia's comment about how music can sometimes fill those holes in our lives, definitely music can do that and to me music is as important as the food we eat to stay alive.
