After the men had finished briefing you on the details they had for you, they left to sit elsewhere, discussing other matters for their country in German. Leon and yourself were left with the folders to start making a plan. Leon had moved to the seat across from you and starts looking through all the information you had. You were also sifting through it all, reading over any information you hadn't heard or read yet.
Looking up to you after a good 10 minutes Leon reaches over to place a hand on yours.
"Hey, you doin' okay?" He asked tilting his head to the left slightly, his neck lowering so he could try and catch your eyes attention with his own. The longer right side of his bangs falling over his right eye, more than normal.
"Hm? Oh... Yeah, I'm okay." You assure him giving a genuine smile. Seeing your smile he knew it was real and he gives a nod pulling his hand away from yours, but you grab it.
"Leon, during this mission, I don't want you to be worrying about me the whole time. I can take care of myself, mostly. I need you to be focusing on yourself as well. Understood, Kennedy?" You say using his last name trying to bring your point across.
"Formal, huh?" He does his famous tilted head nod and smirks. "We are serious, aren't we?"
"Leon.." You say his name in a way that let's him know you are serious.
"Alright... Alright, you have my word. I'll keep an eye out for you, but also myself." He said leaning back in his seat crossing his arms over his chest.
You sigh heavily and look out the window, you were still over land, it was going to be about a 9 hour long flight ahead, so you had time to prepare yourself for what you will be seeing, hearing and smelling. Leon makes a plan with you, needing to know what you will both be doing first, seeing as they want you do be doing two jobs at once.
"So first we'll be finding the location of these BOWs, if they are in fact being used? That should at least give us a chance to find out who could be distributing the Virus around."
"Exactly." Leon agreed with a nod. "If we find the location, we can alert BSAA of it and let them storm while we help the army deal with the infected." He says tapping the map of the city of Erfurt. "That way we don't have to deal with All the BOWs and leave it to a group to take them out, instead of just you and me."
"Smart. I don't feel like taking on a bunch of BOWs." You add, a small nod moving your head as you look over the map. "They don't really have a number on how many outbreaks and where they are, do they?"
Leon shakes his head, a frustrated sigh leaving his lips for what seemed like the 7th time in the last few minutes. "Nope..."
You lean back in your seat and tap a finger on the table as you mouth twist sideways in thought. "Damn.. I guess it's a 'see what we can find when we're there', type of deal."
"Yep..."
You could tell Leon was frustrated an annoyed with the little amount of words he was using to answer you. It's not like it was really anyone's fault they couldn't give us a straight answer, Germany clearly wasn't as prepared for this type of thing as the USA was.
Having gone over the plan multiple times and trying to memories every detail and location you decide to stand up and stretch your legs. Standing up you shuffle out of the seats and start walking towards the back of the Jet.
"Where are you going?" Leon asked, a curious look on his face as he watched you.
"Toilet... Why? Wanna join?" You asked with a smirk on your face. Leon's eyes dart away from you. Yes! You internally punch the air in victory, you had made him blush first today. You smile a wide, toothy, cheeky grin as you turn back around and walk out of sight to the next compartment. A bar and more seats with tables, this time with menus in the seats, this must be the dinning area. Making your way further towards the back where the toilets were.
You didn't really need to go, but you wanted to walk around without Leon feeling like he needed to follow you. He was adorable, but you felt he was trying to be too protective. You understood, the poor guy was probably dealing with really bad PTSD. You have only just healed from a major injury, but at the same time you still didn't remember much.
You sometimes get these 'Memory Episodes', you would both call them. Your head panging with a migraine that would cause you to almost pass out, pass out or throw up. You were glad you were getting memories coming back to you, but why the hell did they have to be so painful? Was it a traumatic thing? A type of way your subconscious was trying to stop you from remembering all these things by causing pain? Possibly... But as you had assured Leon before leaving your home, you hadn't had any in the past week, so you should be alright over the next however long you are in Germany for.
Walking into one of the toilets you lean over the sink, splashing your face with the cold water to help you wake up and freshen up a little more. You could feel your eyes wanting to close a few minutes ago, you should probably stay awake and try to look professional in front of the other two men.
There was a knock at the door pulling you from some deep thoughts, turning around you open the door seeing Leon standing there, a slight look of worry in his eyes.
"You sure you're okay? You've been here for a good 10 minutes.."
10?! Were you really lost that deep in thought?? "Oh, yeah sorry I was just thinking."
"Hmm, Maybe you should just try and relax? I saw you getting tired before, we still have about 7 hours left, so no harm in having a sleep." He suggest, stepping back to let you out of the toilet.
"What about the other two? Won't that seem, you know.. Unprofessional?" You asked, whispering that last part.
Leon just smirks and shakes his head. "No.. We may be good at our jobs and 'professionals', but that doesn't mean we aren't human and have to get rest as well." He assured as he motions back to your seats with his head. "Come on, let's get back."
"Yeah.." You say following him close behind. You saw his head settle on the menus and bar as you head back.
"You go sit down, I'll order us a drink."
"Drink? But it's only, what?.." You look at your watch on your left wrist. "8:30 in the morning!"
Leon shrugs. "It's night in Australia.."
You just roll your eyes and lightly punch his stomach, making him flinch, putting his hands up slightly to stop your hand from connecting with his stomach.
"Fine... One!" You say as you walk off back to your seats. You really could use something to calm your nerves slightly.
-----*5 Hours Later*-----
You sat in your seat, fast asleep for the past hour or so. You both sat and talked for a while, alerted Hunnigan of what the plan was and where you should be. Having lunch you then go over everything a little before you needed to sleep. Leon stayed awake, looking out the window, having seen land go past not too long ago, currently over the ocean once again. His head turns to you as you let out a soft snore, not waking yourself up but you do make yourself change position in your sleep. Getting comfortable again before settling in your seat once more.
This makes Leon smile as he looks around the cabin, something had been sitting ill in his gut the last 30 minutes and he couldn't tell what it was exactly. Maybe he was just nervous, taking you on another mission, and not just a small one either for your first back. This one was going to be a bigger deal than normal jobs.
There was sudden turbulence, but this one felt odd. You woke up from it and looked around, the Jet was tilting.
"Great.." Leon said as he gets up racing towards the cockpit. You get up and chase after him, the Jet had started to tilt far enough for the ground to be on a slope. With the turbulence you find your feet off the ground and crashing into one of the seats. Leon was now at the cockpit, opening the door he saw both pilot and co-pilot dead, their throats ripped out. Leon pulls out Matilda, and getting ready to shoot anything, but right now he needed to get to the controls.
You look up to the cockpit and see a person crawling on the ground towards Leon.
"Behind you!!" You shout standing to your feet, leaning against the seats to help you get to him.
Leon turns around seeing the infected flight attendant crawling towards him, he boots them in the head breaking their neck, shooting the head for good measure. He then stumbles over to the pilot seat and pulls the pilot out, taking his place.
"How do I even fly this thing?" He says touching a finger to his left ear, you also hear Hunnigan in your own ear.
"Hunnigan! Tell me how to fly a Jet!"
"What?!" She screeched in both of your ears
"Yeah, we're currently pilotless." Leon answered, you come up behind him as he puts his hands on the steering controls. He pulls the stick to the left trying to stabilise the angle you were on. You hold onto the seat Leon was sitting in and see Land up ahead, but if you don't gain altitude, you weren't going to make it there.
You see movement to your right, the co-pilot started to sit up, his head lopsided as his neck had no support. You pull out your gun and without hesitation shoot him in the head, he goes limp. You feel the adrenaline surge through your body, your hands shaking. You just killed someone.
"Holy shit!" You say with a tone full of distress.
Leon heard your tone and looked back at your for a second before looking back to what he was doing. "You're okay, they were dead anyway." This was harder than he thought and Hunnigan had stopped responding.
You look back towards the cabin, not seeing the two older men in a little while. Now that Leon had the Jet straight at least, you run out of the cockpit searching through the cabinets in the staff area.
"What are you doing?!" Leon called out to you.
"Finding a raft!" You call back.
"Don't you trust I can fly this thing?!"
"Nope!"
Leon tilts his head as he looks down to the pilot and the water getting closer and closer. "Touché."
The pilot had started to move at Leon's feet, he hadn't noticed yet though as he was trying to pull the Jet up, but nothing was really working, he was pulling on the lever to his right but that didn't seem to be doing anything either.
"(Y/N), I can't get any altitude!" Leon shouts to you. You could hear the panic in his voice as you find a folded up raft, ready to deploy when you are out of the Jet and in the water.
You run to the folders on your table but it had already been spread everywhere, Damn it! Forget it. You look down towards the back of the jet and see the two men who had given you the information on the ground, very bloody and in pieces. You feel your body become covered in goosebumps, you pull out your gun once again and hold it in your right hand. Walking quickly into the next area you see the bar attendant on her hands and knees, chowing down into the older of the two men.
"Shit.." You say to yourself, aiming your gun at her head and taking the shot. Making sure she was dead you run back towards the cockpit seeing Leon struggling with the pilot attached to his right ankle. You aim your gun but it's too risky, Leon was thrashing his leg around too much, you might shoot him. Leon looks to the water quickly approaching and the zombie on his leg, he lets go of the controls and pulls out Matilda shooting the pilot in the head. Standing up from the seat he starts to make his way out of the cockpit, turbulence bouncing him back.
"BRACE!" You hear him shout in urgency. You run to the closest wall and stand up against it as the Jet crashes into the water. Leon was thrown into the control panel, not able to get anywhere to brace himself.
You felt a little light headed but blink a few times bringing your vision back to normal. looking out of the windows you could see half of the jet was underwater. Pulling yourself away from the wall you still held the raft in your arms.
"Leon, we have to leave through the back of the Jet!" You call out starting to walk up the slope towards the tail of the Jet but didn't get a response. "Leon?" You called again looking back into the cockpit. Your eyes widen in horror as you see his body splayed across the dash and window, sliding down into the cockpit you look over him, not knowing if he was dead or not. Blood running from his nose and mouth as you feel tears stabbing your eyes.
Grabbing his arm you wrap it around your shoulders and start to climb up the length of the Jet. Panting heavily as you make you way up, Leon was heavy for your smaller frame as you step over the bodies and make your way to the door.
Pulling the lever on the door you open it, almost being pulled out as it swings open with your hand still holding the lever. You deploy the raft, it blows up into a yellow round raft, the water was slowly rising and you decide you're just going to wait for it to get closer before you use all of your might and toss Leon towards it. He was basically in, you jumping next and pull Leon in completely. The current had already started taking you away from the sinking Jet and towards land.
"Leon!... Hey! Wake up!" You say kneeling beside his form. He was unresponsive, you bend down and rest your head on his chest waiting a moment and hear his heart beating. His breathing slightly labored, but he was alive. You sit there for a moment thinking what you should do.
Pressing a finger to your ear you try to contact Hunnigan. "Hunnigan! Do you read me?" You ask waiting for a response.
"(Y/N)! What's happening! Comms went dead for a moment there, I was trying to get in contact."
"The Jet crashed into the ocean. I managed to get Leon and I onto a raft but he's unresponsive. I don't know what to do!" You say trying to keep strong but you were shaking. Leon might die on you and you don't even know where you are.
"Alright, just take a few deep breaths. Is Leon breathing?"
"Yes."
"Alright, are you able to swim towards land?"
"Yes. I'll start pushing the raft towards land. I can't tell if it's just an island or the coast of a country." You inform as you check on Leon once more before you slip over the edge and into the ice cold water. "I'll contact you when I reach land."
"Alright, I'm just trying to see where you are." Hunnigan responds as you begin to swim.
"Hang in there, Leon. I'll get us to land." You say as you start swimming the raft towards the shore in the far distance.
