Contains: Domestic Leon, Sleepy boy.
Helping Jessica onto the plane, his right hand on the middle of her back as she holds his left hand. Making her way to their seats she had the window seat, well, Leon actually did but he had given it to her. Jessica thanks Leon as she sits in the seat, having plenty of room in the small booth, the seat was even comfortable.
Putting their bags up in the overhead storage, Leon takes his seat and gets comfortable, already putting his seatbelt on.
Jessica watches Leon shrug his shoulders multiple times, fidgeting and bounding his left leg. Jessica lifts her right leg and rests it on his shin, the leg stops bouncing as he turns his head to face her.
"Nervous flyer?" She asked, sinking back in the seat comfortably.
"Yeah.. I guess you could say that. With public transport anyway." He answers, finger tips plucking at his nails.
"You'll be fine. I'll rescue you if we crash." She didn't know how that would work, but she hoped saying something like that would help calm Leon down a little.
She did earn a small chuckle from him as he tried resting comfortably on the headrest. Jessica kept an eye on him as he lays his hands over his stomach, fingers intertwined as he exhales to try and relax himself.
"How do you deal with travel normally?"
"I usually go by helicopter or chinook. I don't feel as contained, more space to move around and if something goes wrong you can get out easier." Leon explained.
Jessica just nods as she listens. "Sooo.. You're claustrophobic?" She diagnosed.
Leon paused, his head turning slightly in her direction, his gaze still on the screen in front of him. "You know.." He turns to face her completely. "I never thought of it that way."
She just smiles to him, her eyebrows raising quickly before she rests back in her chair, her smile still dawning her lips as she smiled to herself now.
After a moment they were finally in the air. Nothing really happened, there was a lot of sleeping, Leon getting snacks, watching movies that were on the tv's in front of them, Jessica sneaking a nut or two from Leon's snacks and talking about America and what it was like. She had more questions about his job and what everything was back in Murray Bridge that she had seen and experienced, but she also knew that he wouldn't say anything to her here with others listening.
-----*23 Hours Later*-----
Once landing Leon helps Jessica off the plane, carrying both their bags once again as he takes her to the shinney black car waiting for the both of them. Sitting in the back Leon sit in the long seat facing the back of the car, while Jessica sat the normal way.
"So where are we heading?" She asks with a yawn, she hadn't slept very well on the plane on account of her stomach hurting so much when she used her muscles even slightly.
"We are heading to DSO HQ." Leon answers, resting his arm along the top of the seat he was on. His other hand draped over his leg, resting between his slight man-spread legs. "I need to grab some paperwork from Hunnigan and debrief with the the Director about what happened."
Jessica nods and goes quiet once again, looking out the window as rain runs down the window. She watches the large buildings as they go passed, seeing to head to the edge of the city before entering large gates, security guards outside check in the windows. Leon slides out of the car first, offering his hand to Jessica as she grabs her bag.
"Here let me.." Leon says going to reach for the bag.
"No, it's okay. I've got it." She says pulling away from him as she holds the bag to her front.
Leon nods and offers his arm for her to take, holding onto his forearm Jessica waddles beside him, picking up the pace a little as she didn't want to slow him down.
"We can go at your pace.. It's fine."
"I don't want to hold you back anymore, besides... I just want to get this over and done with." Jessica said, leaning more into Leon as they came to the doors. He pulls out a wallet looking thing from a velcro pocket on his cargo pants and flips it open.
"Mr. Kennedy we already know it's you." One of the men said with a smirk on his face.
"I know, Protocol." He says with a shrug and places the wallet back in his pocket before leading Jessica inside.
The facility was giant, but it looked even bigger inside. Jessica's eyes went straight up to the large open dome with a glass roof, rooms that looked like whole apartment buildings lined the walls. Buildings inside of a building, that was a first for her. Leon takes you to one of the elevators on the right side, taking you both up to the top floor of this section in the facility. They were now in an office looking space. large rooms on either side of a long hallway, it looked like it could go on forever.
Following Leon, her hand still holding his forearm he comes to a door and knocks on it. You look at the badge on the door reading Roost.
A lady comes to the door, her dark olive skin almost perfect, glasses on her face that shaped it nicely, her dark hair pulled up in a semi-messy bun.
"Hello, nice of you to finally make it." She smiled stepping aside to allow the both of you to enter. "Let her take a seat on the couch over there, Leon. I'll get everything sorted while you debrief."
Leon nods and takes Jessica over to a comfy looking couch against the wall, a rectangle coffee table in front of it with a nice plant slightly hanging over one arm rest of the couch.
Leon squats down in front of Jessica, taking one of her hands in both of his. his eyes looked extremely tired, red under his eyelashes while the rest of his eyes were dark and sunken, yet they still held a softness in them.
"I'll be right back, Hunnigan here will take good care of you." He gives her a smile and pats the hand in his before standing up and walking to the door, leaving quickly, he also wanted to just get this over and done with.
Hunnigan walks over to her desk taking a few folders from her desk and comes to sit down beside her. "I'm Hunnigan, but you can just call me Ingrid."
"I'm Jessica.. Though.. I guess that's about to change, huh?" She sighed still clutching her backpack to her front.
"Some things are going to change, yes. But you don't have to change your first name if you don't want to. We will mainly be referring to you as a code name generally anyway" She says with a smile. Jessica just nods and looks to the folders in Hunnigan's hands as she starts to open the top one, flicking through pages.
They go through everything, changing her last name, but keeping her date of birth. She was changed to be an American citizen, her Australian one being completely wiped as she was now dead in her home country. She is given strict orders and a booklet she needed to read through of what things were public and what she needed to keep secret. Hunnigan writing the whole thing up herself while waiting for them to fly to her, she was also given her code name. Symbolic to the fact that she was immune and was possibly going to help cure a lot of people, Jessica was given the code name Phoenix.
After everything was written out, taking a good hour Leon finally walks back in through the door. Looking even more tired and dishevelled than when he had left, still giving a small smile to reassure Jessica that she was alright.
"So how did everything go?" Leon asked walking over to the two women on the couch.
"Almost done.. Just one more thing to do." She said turning to Jessica, holding out her hand waiting to receive something.
Looking to her hand Jessica clutched her bag Everything she had was in there, her passport, a few clothes, she didn't have her phone or wallet as they were still in the hospital back in Murray Bridge. Unzipping her bag she pulls out her sketch book and drawing utensils before handing her bag over.
Leon watched the hesitation, it made his chest tighten, hands in his jacket pockets as he watches the exchange of the bag from Jessica and the documentation from Hunnigan.
"Everything has been recorded and she is now officially an American citizen, it should keep her safe for as long as possible." Hunnigan explained looking to Leon who nods in understanding. He looks to Jessica who was holding onto the documents and her pad, she looked so small and deflated.
Hunnigan places a hand on Jessica's shoulder and gives her a small smile with a nod. "I have sent Leon an email on things you need to get, but you can get them in your own time."
Jessica just nods, pulling herself up to her feet with the couch's armrest, Leon stepping forwards, hands coming out of his pockets to help her. She holds up her and stopping him from getting any closer, Leon tightens his lips as he looks at her with so much guilt in his eyes.
"What do I call you now?" He asks after letting his hands drop to his sides, not putting them in his pockets in case he needed to help her.
"You can still call me Jessica, but I'm now Jessica Miller. My code name is Phoenix." She explains, not lifting her head once to look up at him. She felt rude, but right now she couldn't bare to look at anyone or she felt she might break. Holding onto the tears hiding behind her eyes by a single spider web thick thread.
Nodding Leon walks to the door and opens it for her. Turning to Hunnigan, "Thank you for helping that would have taken me a week to do."
"Don't mention it, I have had to change so many Agent's details I could build a house with all the paperwork." She says standing up, Jessica's bag in hand.
"Take care, I'll give you a week unless an emergency comes up."
Leon nods and follows after Jessica who had already started walking down the hall way, she had a limp but was mainly trying to show she wasn't in as much pain as she was.
"I'll also email you her appointment times!" Hunnigan shouts down to Leon as he catches up to Jessica. A single hand raising in the air in signal that he heard what she said.
Now outside of the building Leon sighs as he looks at the rain coming down. Of course it would be raining. He leads Jessica to a gated off car park, undercover from the elements. Using a tag on his key chain, the device beeps before the gate started to slide open.
She expected a flashy car, maybe a Mustang or something of the sort, but nope.. It was a motorbike. Sleek and black, it looked beautiful, the Ducati label on the tank. A weight was suddenly over Jessica's shoulders as Leon had placed his jacket on her once again.
She felt the warmth of the jacket envelop her, looking to Leon as he had placed his backpack on his front.
"I'll put your paperwork in here so it doesn't get wet." He offers holding out his hand to take her book, drawing utensils and folders, his other hand unzipping his bag.
With a nod Jessica hands over the only things she had left in her arms, watching Leon swing his legs over the seat he looks to her. After thinking about how she was going to get her short legs over the back she placed a hand on Leons shoulder and hops up. Oh boy did that hurt. She just flops against Leon's back, not able to catch herself on anything else. Wrapping her arms around his stomach he looks back her before turning the key.
"Ready?"
Jessica only nods in response, Leon now driving off, out of the carpark and out into the rain. He didn't wear a helmet and didn't have one for you either, that was completely different from Australia already, you had to be wearing a helmet and full biking gear or you would get a fine. Maybe it was the same here and Leon was just a rebel? She holds onto him tight as he gracefully weaves through the traffic, her thoughts wondering as they head to Leon's place. She found herself crying after about five minutes.
Leon could feel her chest lurching against his back, feeling her tremble he couldn't help but get glassy eyed himself. He couldn't imagine how she must be feeling right now, but they were both tired and needing a good feed and sleep.
After 30 minutes of riding, they were in the hills and pulling up to a large double story house. The gravel road crunching under the wheels of the bike as it comes to a stop, engine going silent. Jessica slides off one side and Leon leans the bike on it's stand heading to the porch of the house and taking a tarp like material, stretching it over the bike.
She watches him for a moment, turning to the house to her left, It was big, surely he didn't live her on his own. He must have a girlfriend or wife or something, he was too nice not to. Leon gently placed a hand on her right arm, pulling her back to reality, Jessica's head snapping back to him quickly. His Ice blue eyes were looking into her hazel ones for a moment.
"You'll be staying with me for as long as you need." This made Jessica blush slightly, looking down at the ground before the hand on her back gives her a slight nudge, causing her to start walking in the direction of the house.
Leon unlocks the door, it was white and in the centre, a decorated, frosty, glass oval. The house opening up before her very eyes. it was very bright in the house, glass windows everywhere, transparent curtains draped over them all. It was already dim from the rain clouds above them, but the house didn't seem to be any more dimmer than outside. there was a second level, but mainly a loft, the living, dining and kitchen area all one, a skylight in the ceiling. Some rooms were under the loft, a bathroom, laundry, toilet and guest bedroom. The stairs and railing up to the top landing was a light wood, the flooring through the entire house a nice Brazilian Walnut timber flooring, the walls either white or slightly greyed.
"Your room can be the guest for now." He says leading you to the right from the entrance into the house, taking you under the second landing loft and to a nice carpet floored room, a double bed in the middle against the wall, though plenty of room was on each of the three sides.
"You can use anything in this house, it's yours now as well. But I'm gonna go pack it in." He said with a yawn, a hand gently resting on Jessica's shoulder before he walks upstairs to the loft.
After a while of laying in the new bed, she gets up, walking out of the room and looks up to the loft, his bed must be up there. Sneaking up the wooden stairs to the second landing, she looks over the edge getting a nice view of the whole house. in front of her was a bedroom setting, a cupboard, dresser and a queen bed.
In the bed was Leon, sleeping soundly on his side. He was wearing a grey sleeing t-shirt, arm carelessly hanging over the edge of the bed as it looking like he would roll off if he even twitched a muscle. His face shoved in his pillow, head bent back showing his adam's apple, mouth open as he snored lightly.
She walks over to the other side of his bed and slides in under the covers, she didn't mean to disturb him but he woke up. Rolling over to see Jessica in his bed, her back facing the side he was on.
Looking at her back Leon wasn't sure how long she had been there for, and didn't know if she was asleep or not. He rolls to face her, hugging his pillow as he watched how still she was for a moment. His eyes then soon close once again, she obviously just needed the comfort. He didn't mind. He was soon fast asleep once again, Jessica followed after him, listening to his breathing which grounded her enough to fall asleep.
