Leon would drive both of them back to his home, both Jessica and Leon's arms holding bags, luckily there wasn't much, and it wasn't heavy. Jessica was more confident to be looking around, still not being able to get over how tall a lot of the buildings were around her. It was one thing she would always do when going to the city where they had taken the plane from Australia to here. Once in the hills and winding around the roads she pressed herself tighter into his back to stay on better. Her stomach muscles thanking her for holding on tighter with her arms so they didn't have to work so hard.
Finally home and Jessica could breathe a sigh of relief, Yes the bags weren't heavy but her arms felt like they were about to drop off. She also didn't expect to have to use her stomach muscles so much while just sitting behind him. Sliding off the back of the bike she drops the bags to the gravel driveway, giving her arms a shake and resting them on her stomach. Her body turned away from Leon as she scrunched up her face, she was healing but not at the pace she wanted. At least she could semi walk around today without looking like an old lady, hunched over like she had been.
"Are you alright?" Leon asked, he had noticed her hands on her stomach, and even though he couldn't see her face directly, the wrinkles beside her eyes indicated to him she was squinting.
"Huh?.." She turns to face him. "Oh.. Yeah.. I'm fine, just a bit stiff at the moment. I should really learn how to drive on the opposite side of the road so I can get around without you having to be by my side." She states. If he was going to be out at work and she needed something, a taxi was going to cost a lot.
Leon nods at her answer and statement, bending over to pick up the bags she had let drop to the ground. "Oh, no I'll carry them." She insisted.
"It's fine.. You said you were stiff." He stands up straight, looking to the bags in his hands, but now he had to grab his keys. Trying to reach into his pocket, the bags giving him trouble.
Jessica watches him, wondering why he didn't just put the bags down, but then figured she could unlock the door instead.
"Here, let me." She offers and reaches over to his front right pants pocket, Leon sticking his hip out for her to get easy access. Pulling the jeans pocket open with an index finger, she looks in to get a visual on the keys before digging her hand in.
"Got 'em." She pulls out the keys and walks around his bike towards the house.
Climbing the stairs to the porch she unlocks the right side of the double doors, stepping inside and holding the door open for Leon who had followed her. Once he was inside she locks eyes on the tarp he would put over his bike. Stepping outside once again she takes it and walks down the stairs, opening the tarp to see which way it went before pulling it over. Once on, she makes sure all the edges were down and it was sitting on the bike properly, wiping her hands on her hips as the tarp was wet from raining earlier.
Turning around she looked to the ground before looking up to see Leon leaning against the closed of the two doors. His arms crossed over his chest, just watching her.
"Everything alright?" She asked walking up the wooden steps. "Did I do it right?" She hints to the fact that he was observing her.
Nodding Leon pushes away from the door, stepping back so she could enter the house. "You did well, I was just coming out to do that."
"Well you were too slow, plus you took in the bags." She teased as Leon closed the door to the house behind her, turning the lock with a loud click.
She lets out another sigh of relief, they were home and away from the crowds. She walks over to where Leon had placed all the bags and looks through them, about to left them up, a hand comes down to rest on hers.
"Fine.." She said standing up straight and stepping back to allow Leon to pick them up, he didn't even have to say anything and she knew.
"Where would you like them?" He asks looking in the direction of her room.
"Just on my bed will be okay.. Thanks.." She motions with her arm in the direction of her bedroom, following Leon there. He places the bags on the bed and starts opening them to have a look inside.
"You don't have to put them away, I can do that myself."
He shakes his head and finally finds what he was looking for, pulling out two small boxes as well as three thin cards. Jessica frowns as he places the cards on the bed and opens the boxes pulling out flip phones. Opening up the backs he pops out chips in the cards and puts them in the back under the batteries. Quickly typing on both of them as he sets them up.
"Here. This one is yours." He says handing it over to her.
"A phone? Does that mean..?"
Leon nods, she didn't need to finish her sentence. "But delete the number once you call them."
"Thank you!!" She says stepping forwards and wrapping her arms around his neck, she was on her tippy toes.
Surprised by the sudden hug he gently rests his hands on her back, a hand patting her.
"Okay.." He says. Jessica pulls away from him and looks to the phone in her hands.
"How long am I allowed to stay on the line for? I know I can't say anything about what I saw..."
"I'll allow you to tell them, it'll be hard to explain why you've suddenly come to America and are no longer an Australian Resident anymore." He says as he walks to the door, taking the knob in his hand and starts pulling it closed. "And talk for as long as you need."
Jessica nods, keeping her eyes on Leon as he closed the door to her room. She immediately calls her mother's number, having to call a few times before she would pick up. It was so good to hear her mother's voice, glad she had made it out of the town alive.
She explains everything, from having to run to the clinic, being bitten, saved by an American agent, finding out she is immune and now living in America with said Agent to help make a vaccine with her antibodies.
-----*2 Hours Later*-----
After consoling her mother and family that she was alive and well, she hangs up. Doing as Leon said and deleting her mother's phone number from the history. She was sure it was a waste of time, because the number could probably just be traced with the current number she had. She starts to put everything away where she wanted it and got dressed in some of her new clothing. She had let her mother know not to ever call her, in case whoever Leon and Ingrid were keeping her safe from got her number. Jessica would call her when it was safe to, knowing full well it would probably be never.
After trying to calm herself down from crying she walks out of her room and directly to the bathroom across from her room. She washes her face with cold water to get rid of the red puffiness of her eyes, trying to wash away the tear marks staining her skin. Now feeling like she was stable enough she walks out into the open house, looking around for Leon. She couldn't see anyone around, now staying silent she listens out for any sign of life.
Then she hears a gentle snore from the lounge in front of her, tiptoeing over to the lounge she looks over the back, seeing Leon laying there. Left hand on his chest, right hand resting on his right thigh that was bent to the side. Such and interesting sleeping position, but it did look comfortable.
She found herself staring at him, taking in every feature, the two moles on his left cheek, one on the right side of his upper lip, two on his Adam's apple. A scar was across his right cheekbone, not seeing it there before because his fringe would usually cover it. She could see the roots of his hair was a shade darker, he must die his hair lighter.
After feeling she had stared at him for far too long she stands up from leaning on the back of the lounge, a hand still lingering there as she looked around for something to do. The feeling of a sudden touch on her hand made her pull away quickly, her stance sturdy as she saw it was just Leon's hand that had touched her.
"Leon! You scared the crap out of me!" She says patting a hand to her chest as she pulls her legs together to stand properly.
"Sorry.. Nice reflexes though. Good sturdy stance." He complimented having sat up quickly after realising he had scared her.
"Just instinct.." She shrugged. "Did I wake you? I didn't mean to." She questioned, hoping he hadn't seen her looking at him, though he was still snoring when she was looking at him, so that wouldn't have happened.
"Maybe.. I think I felt the lounge move." He said rubbing an eye with his knuckles as he yawned.
"When did you fall asleep?"
"Just after I closed the door to your room." He answered looking at the time, that was a good 2 hour nap, no wonder he felt refreshed.
"Where is your phone?" He asked standing up from the lounge.
"Let me just grab it." She says walking into her room, she walks to the bedside table and takes it off there. Turning around and taking one step before putting her arms up pushing him away, another instinct reaction to having someone suddenly appear behind her. "Mate!" She said out of frustration.
Leon had stumbled back, that was a good shove for such a short amount of time to react. "Sorry.. Didn't mean to startle you."
"You were right there! How could you not?!" Once again calming her heart rate she holds out her phone to him, a frown now permanently on her face. "Ever heard of personal space, or even making a sound?"
"Yes.. I've just been given some orders, that's all." He takes her phone and takes the back off.
"What orders? To scare me so much I have a heart attack and die?" She asked watching him take out the chip from under the battery and pulling the third card from his pocket. Popping out that new chip and putting it in the phone before closing the back and setting it up once again. He sends a message to the second phone and hands it back.
"To see if you are skilled enough to train." He answers Jessica. "And the only number you call or text on this phone is me. I'll have the other one."
She nods putting the phone back on the side table. "And what do you mean by train? Train for what?"
"To become an agent for the DSO, like me."
