Once back at camp Chris was quick to leave the vehicle, the car shaking when he closed the door. Leon beside you opened his own door and slides out, turning to face you so he was able to help you down the small drop.
You were sat there, still facing the front of the car. "(Y/N)?" Leon's voice was soft. He looks at Chris behind him as he struts into one of the tents, then Leon turns his head back to face you. "What's wrong? You haven't really said anything. Are you worried about the family?"
You shake your head. "No.. well. Yes, but I think what has got me worried is the fact that Miranda knows who I am now. And that I'm pregnant. If this doesn't work with Rose I know I'll be her next target." You express your worries. "Oh god.. Why did I say it. I was just trying to get her eyes off the family..."
Leon reaches into the vehicle and grabs your hand. "Hey.. Look at me." He demands with a soft tone. Waiting until you turned to look at him before he continued. "You'll be fine. We'll get Miranda and find Mia. You and our baby will be safe." He tries to give you a smile to comfort you, but you could tell he was also trying to comfort himself with his words.
Sighing you give him a nod and start to shuffle along the back seat to slide out of the car with Leon's help. "We should follow Chris."
Leon gives you a nod in agreement and closed the car door behind you before leading you towards the tent he watched Chris enter.
"Once they have put Rose to bed upstairs, will wait until Miranda is in clear view of one of the windows. We don't want to risk a fire so make sure she is nowhere near the kitchen or if she is holding anything." Chris instructs, his hands resting on a table looking over a blueprint of the house plans.
"Captain? How do we know we aren't shooting the real Mia?" One of the men in the squad ask.
Chris was silent for a moment as he looks down at the house plans. He then drops his head after thinking hard about it, exhaling heavily. "We'll shoot her with one bullet to the shoulder. From what we have witnessed in the past, Miranda doesn't seem to be effected with our rounds. If it's Mia, she will most probably try hiding and show pain."
Leon speaks up. "So you're just gonna shoot her even though we aren't entirely sure if it's Mia or Miranda?" He looks back to you. "I know you heard what you did, but this is a possible person we are talking about."
"Leon, I know, that's why we'll shoot her in the shoulder first, there is less chance of internal bleeding and long-term injury." Chris explained.
Leon instinctively reaches his right hand up to rest over the old scar he had on his left shoulder. Looking down he gives a slow and not very confident nod. "Okay.. What would you like us to do?"
"I would like for you to have a sniper, keeping an eye on Rose for protection. Just in case Miranda decides to make her way towards her if our ammunition does nothing to her. And (Y/N)." Chris turns to look at you. "I would like you to go straight up to Rose and collect her from the crib. You are the only one other than me who knows the exact location of where she sleeps."
Both you and Leon nod at your instructions, you had the whole day until nightfall to get ready and go over as many scenarios that you could all possibly think of.
There wasn't much you could do other than get physically and mentally prepared for the invasion. You were second guessing yourself a lot, no. You heard what you heard, she sounded like a completely different woman, and why would Mia say that Rose would be hers soon? It didn't make sense.. it HAD to be Miranda.
You sit around the fire on one of the camp chairs provided. Watching the flames flicker and lick the wood it was eating to stay alive. You were fully geared up, all of your weapons in their holsters, spare magazines strapped in pouches around your waist and side of your tactical vest. You had your black coat over your body, hands in the pockets as you kept them warm in your gloves.
Snow was freshly falling from the sky as it was starting to go dark.
You hear footsteps approaching, knowing exactly who it was by the weight and rhythm. "I'm nervous." You admit to your husband, his hands resting gently on your shoulders to give you a light massage.
"You're tense.. I'll protect you and Rose. I'll have my sights on you the whole time." He assures.
"I know.. I trust you. But it's not me I'm worried about. What if I was wrong? What if we are about to invade a family who is still safe?"
Leon walks around to squat in front of you, he pulls both of your gloved hands from your coat pockets and holds them in his own gloved hands. "Chris has been keeping a look out for Miranda, she still hasn't shown up here and 'Mia' is still at home with Ethan and Rose. He has someone keeping an eye on the family. The more I have been thinking about it, the more confident I am that it's Miranda."
You nod as you look down to your hands in his. There was a moment of peace you felt as his words try to persuade your mind you were correct. You then hear more footsteps from behind, Leon looking passed you to see at who it was.
"Ready? We need to get going and take up positions before it gets too dark." Chris says from behind you.
You turn around to look at him, giving him a nod you stand to your feet, making sure you had everything on you.
"You can both ride with me in the car." Chris offers as he lead the two of you back to his black Ute and waits until you were both in. Two small trucks were in front of you, one was going to have Ethan and Rose in it with protection. The other one would have Miranda inside. The hope was to take her down.
Arriving near the house all the vehicles stay at a distance until the word was given to fire upon the target. Silently you head to the front of the house, as soon as the order was given you would be forcing your way into the house and up to baby Rose.
Leon had set himself up on a hill, laying on the snow with the sniper rifle in a place he could see straight through the windows and to where their bedroom was. For now, he kept his sights on you.
He could see your nerves showing, you kept tugging at the vest around your body. It even had to be looser than normal as your belly was growing. The tiny bump still making it difficult to do up your pants around your waist like you normally would. You just had your belt tighter to keep your pants up around your hips instead.
Hearing footsteps coming towards the door you could hear Ethan talking to his baby girl. This almost makes you cringe, knowing he won't be this happy in a few moments.
You wait, moments later hearing the muffled talking of both Ethan and 'Mia'.
"I have the target in my sights, Alpha." You hear in your left ear.
"Fire at her right shoulder when ready." Chris replies. He was standing on the other side of the front door to you. He gives you a nod as you lock eyes and he waits for the results.
"I shot her.. She's not fazed."
"Power and open fire!" Chris calls immediately, he wanted to still take her out while they had her stunned on what was happening.
They power to the house was shut off and an assault of rounds were unloaded into Mia. Chris busts open the front door and motions with his right hand for you to head upstairs as he calmly walks into the dinning/kitchen area. You worry about the baby, running up the stairs and straight to her room. You could hear her crying from being woken with a fright.
Entering the room you hurry to the crib and gently pat her tiny belly, reaching for a warm blanket you gently pick Rose up and wrap it around her while she was in your arms. "Shh.. Shh.. Shh. I've got you, little one." You say as you walk towards the door and make your way down the stairs, holding her close to your body.
"Rose? What are you doing with my daughter?!" Ethan shouts. You look to him and he froze seeing who it was.
"Ethan.. No!" Chris says as he steps between you and the infant's father.
You look up to Chris, almost about to tell Ethan it's alright. You weren't going to harm her, when one of the European soldiers that had ridden in one of the trucks smacks Ethan in the head.
"HEY!" You say stepping towards them when Chris puts his arm out to stop you. "Chris? What the HELL!?" You shout as you still bounce the baby in your arms.
"We just shot who he thinks is Mia.. He's not going to come quietly. It's best if he's out of it." He explained, not sounding happy with what the soldier did, but found it was probably going to be the best idea.
You knew Chris well enough to hear this in his voice and decide to turn around and leave the house. Leon was jogging up to the house with the rifle in his hand. Seeing you with the bundle of cloth in your arms he assumed it was Rose.
He looks up to Chris leaving the house with Ethan being dragged behind him, Leon's body tensed up.
"What happened?" Leon sounded concerned.
You place a hand on his arm. "He's just unconscious. Ethan is fine." You assure your husband.
Leon nods as he hears the grumbles in your arms. You hold Rose tight and bounce her to keep the infant as calm as possible. Leon reaches over and pulls the blanket away from Rose's face and he melts. She way so tiny.
Chris watches the sight of you both holding Rose. Giving a small smile, he forgets he was in the middle of a job. Turning his head to see Ethan being lifted into the back of one of the two trucks, Miranda was still in Mia's form. Even though she was just confirmed dead, Miranda was placed in the second truck.
Chris walks over to you and Leon. "(Y/N) I want you to go with Ethan, if he wakes up he can see Rose is alright. You can then explain why we are doing this." Chris says as he looks to Leon. "They will be heading to the BSAA Head Quarters. I want you to stay here with me so we can scout the place and make sure nothing is going to cause an outbreak of Mold here."
Leon nods and presses a kiss to the top of your head before he follows Chris into the house. You watch him enter the darkness that was the house and turn to walk towards the truck with Ethan in it.
The door closed and you sit down as the truck starts to drive off towards the BSAA HQ. Sighing you look down at Rose in your arms, the poor thing was so tired she had fallen back asleep.
