Y'all talked over it, but Eddie (the dad) spoke about how easy it is to fall into that incel & manosphere shit. Even looking at gaming, fitness, and sports stuff, you come across that rhetoric in small ways, and before you know it, you're "ironically" parroting those incel talking points because your algorithm pushed you in that direction, and then it becomes unironic. That's how easy it is to indoctrinate people. I think that's such an important thing to point out because it's true. So many of these harmful ideologies are subtly incorporated into the content we see daily. Many adults can't tell when this is happening to them, so it's even worse for kids.

In case you didn’t know, the writers highlighted 3 specific murder cases in the UK that inspired this show. The murder of 12 year old Ava White by a 14 year old boy, the murder of 15 year old Elianne Andam by a 17 year old boy, and the murder of 16 year old Brianna Ghey by two of her 15 year old classmates. These all happened within the last couple of years and were huge cases in the UK, and they don’t count other cases of older women also murdered by men who it later came out were deep in the manosphere.

It was very important to the writers that the show didn’t point out someone to blame but rather showed us the main influences on a child and let us see where we can go wrong. Episode 2 focuses on the school, episode 3 on the internet’s influence on Jamie, and episode 4 on the family. Each of these influences unintentionally shaped Jamie into what he became and that’s why we need to stay vigilant.

As angry as the dad gets, the wife and daughter never seem afraid of him. Jamie did say that his dad never hit his mom.
