Aloha Patrons!

Updating our song selection

Last month we voted for 80s songs, and finally got the long-awaited True Colors by Cyndi Lauper -- here's the February Live Lesson and Chord Chart.  Tutorial coming after I finish The Boxer (January's vote winner) which I'm wrapping up soon. Thank you for voting!

Folks were excited (and I am too) about more current song options, so this month, let's stick with the plan of 2000s-era songs. You can also comment below with one song you'd like to be considered for next month (let's say any era).  Song choices below are based on comments from last month's vote that had the most upvotes, as well as songs I'd like to do.  Upvotes (hearting other people's comments) matter!

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

1. vote for as many of the checkbox song choices as you like below- multiple votes allowed. please note- as soon as you tick the checkbox, the vote is counted. (you can look at the ticker on the right!  sometimes the ticking doesn't work on certain devices - in this case, try your laptop or desktop vs mobile)

2. in addition, you can comment below with one song that you’d want for next month's tutorial. this will help with song choices for future votes. and you can upvote other people’s song choices as well by clicking the heart on their comment.  upvotes are an easy way to double your voting power!  only your first comment will count, so please just one song suggestion per person.

Voting closes Sun. 3/11 at 11:59PM Pacific Time. I’ll announce the winner next week and I’ll post the chord chart before the Live Lesson on Thurs. 3/15.

Thank you, and happy voting!

xo cynthia.

Would love to see iris by Goo Goo dolls in the future! Loving these new song choices!

Terry B Behunin

Would love to see Wichita Lineman by Glen Campbell

Linda Askren

I would like a tutorial for "Count on Me" by Bruno Mars

Renée Forsythe

I love the opening riff of Island in the Sun--classic.

Carolyn Chadwick

My choice would be Patsy Cline’s Walkin’ After Midnight.

Kevin Patrick

Still hoping to see the rest (inc. solo) of Stairway to Heaven...

Meg Higginbotham

Excited for this months songs!! Would love to also see more Jack Johnson songs, especially "Better Together"!

Steve Derebey

Geesh, way to make me feel old.... I don’t know even ONE of these songs :(

Linda Dodwell

Come Away With Me by Norah Jones

Linda Dodwell

I Started A Joke by the Bee Gees

JorgNS

Would like to learn Perfect by Ed Sheeran or Kansas City by Mumford & Sons

Sylvia Bailey

Fast Car by Tracy Chapman! Please! Thanks!

Lynda Moore

Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton

John L Turner

San Francisco Bay Blues. Eric Clapton

MoonnaBlu

Drops of Jupiter by Train

Indira Tomazin

Such great heights is one of my all time favorite songs!!!!

Jess Chen

Song to be considered for next month: A Case of You, Joni Mitchell.

Will Peralta

Song by Neil Young, first choice “Heart of Gold.” Second choice “Old Man.”

Jess Chen

Also just wanted to share w/ others that Khalid's cover of "Fast Car" on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge is great.

Ukulynle

So I have chosen which I would like. How do I post this?

colin meadows

picked white T's, not really feeling tracy chapman tbh looks like its going to win

Eve J.

So Far Away - Carole King

Elizabeth

One Day by Matisyahu!

Joshua Green

Yes! Awesome choice. I also like the Indigo girls more fiery version as much as their understated version

Joshua Green

I still want Scars to Your Beautiful by Alessia Cara. What can I say, I'm a sucker for songs of anguish and redemption. Also, what's with these songs from the 80's and 90's still being choices on Millennial month?

Cynthia Lin

just using the upvotes from last month. also realizing that Fast Car just got a revival remix which is probably why it’s top of mind for a lot of people right now. interesting how classic songs get refreshed over time (like True Colors being in the Trolls movie)

Cynthia Lin

we’ll add better together for next months vote - as for harmonica, i will see if it will fit in the key of the arrangement :)

Carla Bagshaw

Would love to see Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol (I'm new so apologies if this has been done to death). XXXX

Lisa Guillard

Nothing Else Matters - Metallica

Carol Phillips

The one thing I love about ukulele is that I am being exposed to all kinds of music I would never have known existed!!!

Vanessa Causley

Couldn't agree more Carol.....Island in the sun Weezer for me please.......I need blue sky and sunshine, winter is too long !

Donald Miller

This really dates me, but I was not familiar with ANY of the songs on this months list and only recognized some of the artists. I agree that the Patrons should have a variety of songs from many eras to select from, but maybe some from many eras each month? That said, I could go for an "Island in the Sun" about now.

Nadine Golden

Love Serenade -- The Waifs (or anything else by The Waifs).

Jake Plissken

‘Ama ‘’Ama (Sam Alana as performed by Brother Iz

Donna Bamber

I’m glad to see at least 1 upbeat song, ‘All about that bass’. The majority of songs are all so slow & just not fun to play or sing, even in a group setting. Hoping for some updated fun, bubbly (doesn’t mean ‘fast’) song choices.

Lisa Gunheim Adams

I left my heart in San Francisco! Your jazzy version :)

Wendy Kriegel

Wake Me Up Avicii but in key done in the cover by voice contestant caroline pennell

Patricia Hurley

For future: By Your Side (Sade), in the style of Ben Taylor

Will Peralta

not feeling it either. Not sure why it’s leading, it’s not really a performance song in my mind. Maybe that’s why, not much singing in it(?)

Trish Solomon

Another suggestion for the future... Cowboy, Take Me Away by the Dixie Chicks.

Laura Smith

Havana (Camila Cabello) seems like it would translate so well to ukulele!

Daniel Morel

I can't vote for some reason. 🤔🤔🤔😣😥 Probably doing something wrong. Entry way song by Bright eyes.

Sean G

Such Great Heights would be so good!

Eric Guerin

Another song I'd love to learn that was also penned by Ben Gibbard who wrote "Such Great Heights" by the Postal Service is "Passenger Seat" by Death Cab for Cutie.

Jo Ann Wong

Could we have one month voting for a song more current. Maybe not older than 2012 and later?? ❤️❤️

Jenny Selig

Whew, Cynthia, you have your work cut out for you trying to please us. We have very different tastes and demands! ;) Thank you for trying to mix it up when it comes to tones, genres, styles, artists, and eras! One thing I appreciate about you as a teacher is that you know your strengths, and I like how you pick songs that are in YOUR wheelhouse, as well as opening up to hear what interests and excites your students.

Melanie Maus

Please do a tutorial of Wicked Games that you performed on YouTube for 100 Days of Ukulele!

Rizalina Espiritu Zarcilla

Dreams by the Cranberries (1992) and In my life by JL would love to see these 2 on your tutorial. I am just a beginner but already quite inspired just watching all your UTUBE posts.. regards
