Adriana Yon

Hi All! I joined as a CL patron in July of this year. I started playing in May of this year and found the CL YouTube videos a great resource, so I wanted to support her work. I've always wanted to play an instrument and tried and failed many times. But I can already play 7 songs with the ukulele! 😀 I'm in Tuscaloosa, AL and recently learned there's an ukulele club here, so, of course, I signed up. I also just bought my dad an ukulele. He also has always loved music and wanted to play something. He's sticking with it so far!

Christian Plante

Hi everyone! I'm a new patron from Quebec, Canada. Bought a ukulele 2 years ago and just fell in love with the instrument. I don't belong to a uke club but I have been following Cynthia and learning from her for the last 2 years and decided to support her directly. Thank you Cynthia and keep on ukuleleing! ;)

Mark Pierce

Adriana - sounds like you are well on your way! 7 songs already is great. Brilliant too that you found a group to play with - the fastest way to grow your skills. Welcome to the community. Really positive affirming folks here.

Carmen

Hello everyone! I joined CL Patreon in June of this year. I've been playing ukulele since 2015. I also found Cynthia's YouTube channel and loved her teaching style. So I decided to support her work.

Mark Pierce

Carmen you’re definitely in the right place! It’s been a good summer to be a Cynthia Patron! Hope to “see” you around!!

Jeremy J Nickurak

HI! Just joined Cynthia's Patreon last month. I'm a new Ukelele player from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada -- I just picked up my first Ukulele in July -- a Leho concert uke ( https://www.long-mcquade.com/93487/Guitars/Ukuleles/Leho/Mahogany-Series-Arch-Back-Concert-Ukulele.htm ). I've really enjoyed following along in Cynthia's lessons. I can play a reasonable Somewhere over The Rainbow (and I'm working on switching to that key-of-G version so I can actually sing along!), and I'm enjoying playing Creep (but I'm pretty new to the song, so I need lots more practice). Outside of Cynthia's lessons, I've been working on playing Ben Sure's "Used To Have a Raygun", which is a pretty straightforward 3-chord tune, but it's just lots of fun and a great tune by a great Canadian singer/songwriter. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4tPWfp3AgM ) My goal when I started was to pick up "Hovering Sombrero" by They Might Be Giants, and I'm dangerously close to being able to play that one through. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYAv-TaKCRk ) I'm super excited to play around with recording myself playing those last couple tunes. :)

Hey all! I also just joined, as I was learning from YouTube video's of CL, and two other sites, and wanted to support CL for what I've learned so far. Started with a free Uke class at our Library in Sonoma (Thanks to Teacher Scott!) in May and have been hooked every since. Got a Cordoba Tenor solid top (because I love the sound) from our local music store (shout out: Tall Toad Music in Petaluma) and try to play everyday.

I'm a new patreon member from Ontario, Canada. Bought my ukulele a year and half ago while visiting my daughter who lives in Hawaii. It makes me feel closer to her when I play. Cynthia, you are an excellent teacher with a charming personality. I appreciate how you set up the lessons with cord charts and words.......so easy to play along. Thanks.

Gail giles

Oops, sent too soon. I bought a bright yellow Malala Uke a year ago and played fitfully for an

Gail giles

I’ve got to stop doing that! Fitfully for about nine months with little progress. I found Cynthia and loved her but just couldn’t get the sound. I finally decided to cut bait and buy a nice uke (handmade hardwood made in traverse city, Michigan) and really put some work into it. Having tons of fun on my tenor uke and with the exception of the chuck am progressing nicely. How long does it take to learn to chuck? I’ve been working on it for two months. I can chuck but not in rhythm.

Patricia Hurley

I’ll miss this Thursday’s live Jam, since I’ll be at the Ukulele Union of Boston’s annual outdoor Jam in Harvard Square 🤗. Look forward to the recording, and catching up with folks on future live lessons/jams.

Gail giles

oh, I’m actually from and live in texas

Mark Pierce

Hi Jeremy! Welcome! Can’t wait to see some of your videos. That’s a great way to improve. Sounds like you have a good start on the songs you want to play. Pretty remarkable for only a couple months!!!

Mark Pierce

Hi Tracy! My first ukulele was a Córdoba Concert. They make really good ukuleles at really good prices. It’s wonderful that you have a local uke class. Playing every day is the key to getting better fast. Welcome!!!

Mark Pierce

Barbara we are glad you are here with us. Cynthia really is a master of writing out great chord charts for us. Having your daughter living in Hawaii must be a mixed blessing. Welcome!

Mark Pierce

Hi Gail! I love Traverse City, MI. My wife and I spent a week there last August. What a wonderful place. And I didn’t even know about ukuleles there. Regarding the chuck, keep at it. For most of us after trying and trying and practicing and practicing, the chuck just shows up one day! And then you never lose it. I am assuming you have seen Cynthia’s special Youtube Lessing on chucking. If not check it out. It’s very helpful. Welcome!

I am a newbie-I joined this month. I played in college in the 60's and then did not play again until last October. I have 2 Pono Baritone ukes-one mahogany and one Acacia. Both have slotted headstocks and one has a radius fretboard. Both have a glossy finish. I am enjoying it greatly but find I am not as nimble as I once was. My arthritis does make barre chords difficult-my fingers are not flat although turning my index on the side and pressing with the middle finger helps. Mostly I avoid them when I can-I play another voice farther up the fretboard. I play with a group at the senior center nearby and we mostly play music from the 60's and 70's-some Beatles, Everly Brothers, Hank Williams, Petula Clark, etc. and some show tunes and Hawaiian tunes. I live in a burb near Madison, WI.

Laura

Aloha! I have been playing my Lanikai for 6 mos. I have taken 8 weeks of group lessons. Songs I am working on now are Hallelujah by Cohen and House on Pooh Corner by Loggins & Messina. I am Having so much fun and love playing!

Heather Ellen

I joined about a month ago but have been following Cynthia Lin's you tube videos for about a year. They have been so inspirational and I have learnt so much from her. I am grateful to her for her generosity and wonderful teaching style. I have just joined a group that meets weekly for a couple of hours - we have a very energetic and enthusiastic leader and the group does public performances in rest homes and shopping malls from time to time. I still consider myself a "learner" but I am passionate about the uke. When I visit my 95 year old mum I play old songs for her and we sing and laugh together!! I am very hopeful that I will be able to buy a Cynthia Lin signature uke real soon. Bless you Cynthia x

Heather Ellen

Forgot to mention - I am in New Zealand!

Jan

New member here from Belgium. I started playing in 2012 but really started to put some effort in it a year ago. I've been playing guitar for 20 years. I mostly play Kala's, Fenders, Ohana (including the CK-14CL), Baton Rouge and a Kiwaya.

Hi Cynthia, I am relatively new on ukulele. I began playing my Luna acoustic/electric concert uke on 4/29/18. I rec'd my Mitchell baritone uke on 5/16/18. So you see I am Very new to the ukulele. Thanks to your tutorials I have learned a lot. I play every day. I live in Sonora, Ca. About 150 miles from you. I have been playing bass guitar for 37 years, and prior to that I played the drums for 17 years. I just came across your video of You Don't Know Me, Thank you Cynthia, I watched your hands Very carefully and came up with a chart for your version of this classic. (Provided that IS a E7sus4 following the Em, or is it a D6?). LOL. Anyway, I Really enjoyed hearing you play one of my all time favorites. Joining your Patreon group was one of the best things I have done since starting to play the ukulele. Thank you for sharing your talent.

Laura Street

Hi Cynthia, thank you for your amazing tutorials!!!! I love the choice of songs and your teaching methods. Here is a song I thought you may like, would be an amazing tutorial too. Hi, recently joined the Patron gang from the Sunshine Coast of Australia. I've been playing uke for yonks, but have mainly focused on composition and improvisation. Recently I decided to develop a bit more rigour and learn more pieces. Cynthia, your tutorials are extraordinarily well made. Thanks! I worked through the Moon River and Blackbird tutorials, and afterwards realised that I needed to support the production of such brilliant material. I mainly play a concert uke, and you prompted me to swap in a low G. What a great move! It's given me a wonderful fresh burst of energy for playing. Again, thanks so much for what you're doing.

Sheilah Seaberg

Thanks, as always, for the great work Cynthia. I wish I could quit my job so I can take advantage of all the resources you create!

Ariane Holmeier

Aloha! I'm also a brand new member of the patreon community and I'm coming from Germany (Munich). I bought a year ago a beautiful Pono ukulele and I forgot about her.. after a while I realized that I need to start playing, so first I watched your YouTube videos but I wanted more! So now I am here.. :) Right now, I am trying to learn the fingerpicking and singing of moon river. Thank you for all the work you put in the lessons!

Lateefah Burgess

Hello, I just became a Patreon after watching all of Cynthia’s videos on YouTube. I purchased a Concert Ukulele last month and am learning to play as a beginner. I play a few instruments -not very well- and am excited to learn to play the Ukulele. My goal is to be able to play backup for my 8 year old who loves to sing pop songs. We are both super excited!

Steph Philippe

Hello from Melbourne, Australia! Just joined this month, have been following Cynthia on Youtube since I bought my beginner uke in March/April. Have been trying to get at least 5 mins practice in every day, and I can play songs grace à Cynthia and her tutorials. Not part of any uke clubs in Melbourne - don't know of any (any locals here in Melbourne?) I've got just a basic uke now, but looking forward to upgrading soon. Also trying to learn guitar - the uke was just to stand in whilst I brought my guitar here from Sydney, but feeling a lot more comfortable with the uke! Looking forward to more tutorials and learning even more songs. Thanks for all you do Cynthia! <3

Cynthia Lin

Bax-Shop seems to be the only Ohana dealer in Belgium so I custom-ordered it there. Still waiting for it to arrive. Hopefully after this order they add the CL model to their range. ;-)

Sonya De Naeyer-Louzon

I am a new Patron, and just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Sonya, and I have been learning/playing for a couple of years now. A friend of mine (Rebecca) recommended becoming a Patron after showing me some of your fabulous play-a-longs and tutorials. We enjoy getting together once in a while and jamming together, and are very excited to share new and cool things/songs that we find. I love your play-a-longs, especially on days where I just want to sit down and play for some fun.

Jon Plouffe

Hello Cynthia, I am a new Patron. I have been playing the ukulele since this past August. My family and I vacationed in Oahu and Maui. While in Maui, I got the inclination to buy a uke. I have played every day since then, and have found your videos to be most helpful. The funny part, is my wife, whom at first was slightly against me getting the ukulele plays it as much as I do. I picked up an Islander tenor whilst in Maui. After fighting over it for 2 weeks, my wife suggested we get another one, so I ordered another Islander tenor but in low G. She grew impatient waiting for the second tenor to show up, so she went out and bought herself a Kala concert. So we have 3 different flavors to learn on. We need a 12 step program for Ukulele Acquisition Syndrome. We are loving this addition to our life and look forward to strumming forever more.
