Aloha Patrons!

First, a warm welcome to all the new Patrons!  Thanks for joining us here!  If you are a new Patron, please introduce yourself in the comments below.  Feel free to share how long you've been playing, what kind of uke you play, if you have an uke club to play with, what songs you've been working on.  And if you've been a Patron for a while and want to share, please go ahead.  This is a good place for your questions too - fellow Patrons, feel free to help me answer any newbie questions.

Thanks to all of you for directly supporting my work and for creating a powerful and positive online ukulele community.

A note for newbies - I know Patreon can be a bit hard to navigate.  Please be patient and explore, and be sure to join our secret Facebook group which just crossed 1500 members!  Our community there is active and friendly, and it's the best place to post any question you have about Patreon or ukulele.  I also recommend downloading our CL Patron App which has links to all my channels and resources.  Details in the Community Notes at the bottom of this post.

Interested in U-Bass?  Join me Friday 2/8 for a U-Bass Lesson with Ukulenny

After I posted the Havana and Brown Eyed Girl Play-Alongs, I heard from many of you that you'd like a U-Bass lesson.  I managed to get the ever-busy Ukulenny to share a guest workshop this Friday 2/8 at 3PM Pacific Time.  He will livestream on my Patreon to all $5+ Patrons so you may want to edit your pledge to check it out.  His workshop is called U-BASSics and is an introduction to playing the bass - even if you don't have a U-Bass, there's a lot you can learn about U-Bass (and can try out the concepts on your ukulele).

Details and handouts will be posted separately.  Hope to see you online!

Hi Cynthia! I am one of your newest members, I joined a few hours ago. I’ve been playing since Christmas, also trying to teach my 8 year old son. I’ve learned to chuck and read tab and play several songs following your videos. I’m currently watching The Lion Sleeps tonight, so MUCH fun!! I’d love to see you play a song called ‘Throw your arms Around me’ by Hunters and Collectors.

Jaime

It’s lunch time here in Australia, you must be up late!

Jaime

I’m in Melbourne!

Ken (UKEn) Freestone

Thanks for the great overview of everything CL and Uke. Maybe it should just be CLUKE. Keep up the great work!

Paula Pavlovic

Hi Cynthia, I too am a new member. I bought my Oscar Schmidt concert uke some years ago but did not progress. I’ve taken it up again recently and am finding all these resources so much more helpful than my books. I also bought a shark by Makala recently so I have a uke for camping, travelling and beaching. Thank you for the fun tutorials. I love the songs. They keep me going. I am in Kalgoorlie Western Australia. Don’t know any other uke players here.

Danielle Kelb

Hi Cynthia, I am another new member in Queensland, Australia, I have just started playing in November learning from you, Bernadette and TenThumbs. I love your tutorials and the different songs. I have a Bondi concert all now ukulele. At the moment progress has been slow as keeping it for a surprise for my partner!

Cynthia Lin

thanks ken! i tried that hashtag #cluke but it’s kind of weird to speak it as one word

Cynthia Lin

welcome Danielle! i just posted in another comment about our Aussie Uke Squad, so please join that group if you’re interested.

Tim Hanke

Hey Cynthia. Tim from the Chicago area here. I just joined because I admire your arrangements and style. I saw your arrangement for Ain’t No Sunshine and it resonated with me as I’m doing that at my next open mic night. Wanted to learn the Cm version but since we have a bass in the group I’ll probably adapt it back to Am. But I loved it in Cm. The others we are doing at our next gig are Feelin’ Alright and Wind Cries Mary. I play either a Blackbird Farallon low g or Hoffmann tenor also low g. For high g stuff I use a Rebel NEO tenor or Koaloha concert. I’ve been playing for two years this month though I had some guitar experience. I’m working on song writing and improving fingerpicking up the fretboard. Cheers and thanks.

Jackie Pfeiffenberger

Hi! I too am new. I bought my kids a Uke at Christmas. They didn’t play and I picked it up. I have been playing around with it for a few weeks. I am playing three little birds from your tutorial and #babysharkchallenge it’s a family favorite camp song!! Thanks for all the lessons out on YouTube and through your other website. It’s been an awesome resource. Cheers.

Danielle Kelb

Thanks Cynthia I noticed that and have put a request in to join. Also do you have the link to the other fb group you mentioned in your post?

Cynthia Lin

hey danielle! the info is at the bottom of this post - email patronhelp@cynthialin.com with the email address you use to login to facebook and you’ll get an invite. see you over there!

Cynthia Lin

sounds like a nice uke collection! would be great if you shared some video of your group in our facebook group, i’d love to hear those songs.

Pam

Is the beginner jam on the 7th? This is the 1st Thursday of Feb. I thought the jam was on the 2nd Thursday-am I wrong? or Perhaps this month is an exception.

Robert K. Conyne

Hi Cynthia and all, I am new (2 weeks) and enjoying it. I am a retired professor and live in Cincinnati. A few years ago while attending a conference in Hawaii I bought a Makala Uke in Hilo. Only now have I started to learn to play. Cynthia's lessons, skill, and way are fabulous.

Jenny Selig

If we won't have a u-bass with us while watching, would Lenny recommend we use Low G or High G to practice the concepts during his lesson (if we have both)? Thanks!

Cynthia Lin

hi Pam, the Live events shift month to month depending on the way the dates fall and my travel schedule. Beginner Jam is the 7th this month, hope to see you there!

Cynthia Lin

Great question - we'll use the E and A strings on the uke to simulate the E and A strings on the bass, so either low or high stringing will work. the G string won't be involved.

Will Peralta

what’s the song for the beg lesson today?

Maree Smith

Not new, but live in Brisbane. Gosh I'm tempted to join up to FB so I can be in the Aussie Uke Squad!

Rich DeVries

On Hawaii time! It was great seeing and playing with you and Aldrine last summer. You are still looking and playing great as ever. Working on "White Sandy Beach"

Dianna Read

Hi there! I'm a new patron and a beginning uke player here in Ocala, FL. I have played flute, bass guitar, violin and ocarina, but this is my first "chorded" instrument, and I'm feeling uncoordinated but having a blast in the 2 months I've been playing. I find your online tutorials a God-send! The local uke club is "dormant" so I'm only my own right now, but I have shared my electric Ibanez with my church congregation (unplugged so they couldn't hear my mistakes) and my Lohanu (both concert sized). Not sure how much I'll get involved with your jams and such, but I'm enjoying the uke immensely. Thanks for all your help!

Catherine Porritt

Hello, I just joined today. Have been playing ukulele for close to 20 years. It's a great hobby for those of us who live in the Great White North, aka Canada :-)

Amanda Matheson

Hello, I just joined Patreon. I have followed your tutorials on youtube for about 1 year. I am thinking of signing up to learn the intermediate jazz tutorials as I need a challenge. I play a Tenor Kala Ukelele. I am going back and learning the live tutorials on the songs I have missed since all tutorials went to Patreon.

Stephen Miguel

Hi, I’m a new student and discovered your YouTube videos really helpful and became a Patron. I live in the eastbay and will try and take advantage of some of your local workshops. Currently I’m taking a beginner class with a club in Hayward. Thanks so much for sharing your gift of music!

Louise Kampmark

Hello, I just joined Patreon, since you have taught me to play the ukulele for free up until now.

Louise Kampmark

And I really feel like supporting you. I love your teaching style, your tutorials are excellent. I am a business psychologist from Denmark, and I have been really skeptical about e-learning, but you proved me wrong. Thank you so much Cynthia. I look forward to enjoying all content and the ukulele community on patreon. I have been playing for a little more than a year. I am currently sweating my way through blackbird:)

Cynthia Lin

hi Stephen! who's the teacher in Hayward? just curious if i know them. look forward to seeing you at a local event!

Cynthia Lin

hi Amanda! that's a great place to start - there's tons of free tutorials on YouTube and Live Lessons available for all Patrons. when you're done with those and looking for more challenge, join us for the more intermediate-level lessons. welcome!

Cynthia Lin

welcome Dianna! the ocarina is an interesting one in that mix, i'd love to spend more time learning that. enjoy!

Cynthia Lin

hi Maree! the Aussie Uke Squad isn't super active (yet), but it might be fun to just connect with the other Aussies. i'll be visiting Brisbane before too long because my sister lives there, and i'm sure we'll organize an event to bring everyone together. :)

Stephen Miguel

Hi Cynthia, the instructor is Sarah Kama’i-Paler and she is with the Kaleponi Strings Club. They host the nor cal ukulele festival. She is great, but insista

Stephen Miguel

But insists she’s not a teacher. She gives us the basics, and we play along new songs that she introduces each week. Oh yeah, I play a Luna concert! 😊 btw, I'll be at the Berkeley workshop.

Bonnie VanDenburg

Hi! I am a new Patreon. I've been following for a while but only just found out what Patreon is! I'm very grateful for what you do. My Dad was an amazing guitarist/songwriter and he tried for most of my childhood to teach me but my silly weak little fingers could never work it out. In an effort to encourage my autistic son's love of music, I got him a $10 Walmart Uku that immediately fell out of tune but I still managed to squeeze out a little tune then my husband got me my own Lanikai. I just wish my dad was alive to see that I can FINALLY play Blackbird! Now I share music with my children and you have been a HUGE part of that! Thank you so much!!!

jody

Hi everyone, I am a newbie from Australia. New to Ukelele, but i already have three, Two sopranos, Mahalo, and a Concert 15CM Cordoba (favourite). Also followed you on you tube for past months so decided it was a great idea to get involved with the amazing community you have built. I am loving alot of intemediate jazz songs but am only just getting the basics down first but cant wait to get playing them in time. Your arrangements and teaching style I love, so thank you!
