Aloha Patrons!
Here's a bit of a throwback that connects to something new for my Beginner Jam Patrons.
Please check out a new play-along video for Island Style, performed by my Nov 2017 class in San Francisco. (this was right before I took the year off to tour, and it's been a whirlwind since then, so apologies to my class for sharing this so late!)
Watch "Island Style" on YouTube: https://youtu.be/6qsSi0RkxF8
This is a classic Hawaiian jam with only 3 chords, so grab your uke and play along! In our class, we focused on group vocals and vocal harmonies. If you like it, please take a moment to give it a thumbs up, leave a comment, and share. Thank you!
NEW: Monthly Beginner Lessons
I've seen that my Patrons get most excited when I teach a new song, and there are so many Beginner-friendly songs that I haven't had a chance to teach yet. From now on, I will teach a new Beginner Lesson as part of our monthly Beginner Live Jam, focusing on songs with 4 chords or less and teaching basic techniques that we can all benefit from reviewing.
In our February 2019 Beginner Live Jam, we worked on "Just the Way You Are" by Bruno Mars, which has only 3 chords, and I used the song to teach the rock strum ($10+ Patrons can watch here, and $3+ Patrons can get the chord chart here). After the lesson, we jammed on songs from the Ukulele 101 Songbook (available to all $10+ Patrons).
For March 2019, I'll teach "Island Style" by John Cruz, and we'll focus on the island strum and splitting the island strum. The March 2019 Beginner Lesson/Live Jam will take place on Thurs March 7th at 4:30pm Pacific Time. I'll post the video link and details in a separate post.
Lately, our Patron-voted Live Lessons have been pretty challenging (You've Got a Friend, Something, Bohemian Rhapsody), and I know Beginners can feel intimidated by this. The monthly Beginner Lesson/Live Jam will give us a space for more focused Beginner learning and teaching.
Along the same lines, our monthly Intermediate Live Jam will now have a new Intermediate-level Lesson each month, which I'll teach at an Advanced Beginner level with variations for more advanced players.
I'm excited to be able to share more songs at more levels, and thank you to all of you for encouraging me to do so!

The chord chart for Island Style is attached to this post for your convenience (click on the orange pdf link at the bottom to download), and also available at my Gumroad.
Enjoy!
