Aloha Patrons!

See you Thursday, September 19 at 5:30pm Pacific Time for our monthly Live Lesson. If you click on the video above, you’ll see a countdown for your time zone. (Find all Patron events on our Patron Google calendar).

Tune in here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRBvDwTcbLY

I'll teach our September vote winner, "Wild World," by Cat Stevens.  If you tune in for my Instagram 5@5 Live show on Wednesday, I'll share a preview of the arrangement.  (follow me on instagram @cynthialinmusic, I go Live most Wednesdays at 5pm Pacific)

A note about our monthly Live Lessons

Please note that our monthly lesson is voted on by all Patrons, and my goal is to teach and arrange a lesson that is interesting for all levels.  For "Wild World," I will walk through the chords and basic strum at a beginner level to start, and then elaborate on how to make it more musically exciting with a more advanced strum variation and that awesome scale riff.  I encourage you to play at your level, and embrace the challenge of incrementally leveling up.  You can rewatch the lesson as many times as you like.  Grasp the basics on the first go-round, and each time you review, you'll pick up new tips and techniques.  You can use this method to become a better student and better learner - by building more awareness and more patience. :)

I have tried (many times) over the last couple years to learn from this video (and the one of Youtube) and both have very unsynchronized audio & video. I saw someone in YT comment the same thing. I came here again today hoping that it was fixed, but alas, it's a wild wonky world and I'm not able to access this tutorial... ☹️

Blaine Parks

I'll miss tonight's lesson as I'm actually on my way out to the west coast for a HS reunion. Have my travel uke with me but will still be in the air flying. Love that you do these lessons for us. Thank you!

Michelle Kidd

I'll miss tonight as well. I'll have to watch a replay. Enjoy everyone!

Carol King

Hi ! 1st time 67 yr old who has never played anything from Outter Banks of North Carolina. So excited!

Carol King

Yes I am the Carol King you would pay not to sing. lol No, really what advise can you give someone who has never played anything. Im lost!

Lynn Haney

Great lesson sorry I missed it live! My 2 cents on intermediate classes. I consider myself an advanced beginner to intermediate level. I enjoy taking the intermediate classes and it really just depends on the song if I can tackle it or not. My strengths are difficult strumming patterns and a natural knack for time and rhythm... my weaknesses are difficult chords (barring) and transitions... So depending on what the lesson/song is focusing on it depends how much I can do with the song. S

Kevin de Queiroz

Thanks for the lesson! Would someone mind posting the riff for low G uke that Cynthia mentions in the lesson. Is that in place of the second measure of C at the end of the second line of the chorus?

Tori Moo

One of my favourite lessons so far! Really enjoyed the riff, which was difficult at first and I didn't think I'd get it up to speed but all of a sudden something just clicked. Amazing how that happens! Thanks Cynthia <3

Ginger Earl

Try this, G - 0 0 2 / C - 0 0 0 / G - 2 0 . With a low G, it sounds the way I remember.

Kevin de Queiroz

Thanks, Ginger. I think I figured out more or less the same thing, though I was playing it slightly differently: G - 0 0 0 2 5 5 5 2 0.

Stefie

You are the best Cynthia ❤️😘😍

Sarah Thin

Hi Cynthia - great lesson! What Ukulele were you using? the Pineapple one? Thanks

Gina

Hi, from rainy germany, your lessons are wonderfull, I m sooooooo glad I found you.......

John Lynch

I’ll have to go back again ... I seemed to hear G - 0 0 2 4 / C - 0 0 / G - 2 0

John Lynch

I’m behind in my lessons and have just gotten to this one last night ... so much fun. I keeps saying to myself that I need to start learning scales so I might can add some of the instrumental interludes to some songs, like George Harrison’s “Something.” And then here you come and force the issue with the Cmaj scale. I found myself going up and down the way on the Cmaj like a high schooler practicing for a chair challenge. Love it.

lula Stephens

Hi! This song is not from Cat Stevens. I think the link is wrong

Jenny Selig

Many of the lessons start out by reviewing a previous song. Keep watching!
